Palomar offers plenty that smaller boutique hotels can't

by UpscalePortland

The moment you pass the doorman and enter the lavishly designed lobby, you’ll recognize that the Hotel Palomar Atlanta Midtown isn't your average hotel. The Kimpton chain doesn't yet have the brand-name recognition of big-name hotel chains, but the service and amenities go far beyond what you’ll usually find elsewhere.

Even in the lap of luxury, nothing is perfect. The bathrooms had regular showerheads with poor water pressure and no fans, and half the bathrooms had only a narrow tub. Other minor annoyances during my stay included a flickering lamp, a scratchy extra top sheet, and an iHome alarm clock that was bewildering to use.

Nonetheless, the Kimpton's Hotel Palomar Atlanta Midtown is stellar, and definitely worth spending a few extra bucks. If you're seeking a peaceful, sophisticated atmosphere that caters to your wishes and blows big-name hotel chains out of the water, check into the Hotel Palomar. The staff will ensure a memorable stay by lavishing you with all the hospitality that Kimpton will soon be known for.

  • Pros: posh surroundings, amazing restaurant, affordable rooms
  • Cons: water pressure, no bathroom fan, flickering lamp

Great rooftop bar/lounge

Hotel Palomar has a great roof-top lounge (top of restaurant) that has wonderful views, and great seating areas. A wonderful place to go to see-and-be-seen!

  • Pros: Beautiful environment

Another sleek, chic, trend-tastic hotel in Midtown.

by Ryan Sims

In Short
Following the very welcomed cultural trend of sleek, hip, sexy hotels replacing the old guard of stuffy, chain hotels, Palomar wows you from the get go. The lobby is filled with tons of colored marble in big square blocks, some of which glow with backlighting while guests lounge on zebra striped chairs. Heading to the rooms, contemporary art and sculpture fit right in the scene and the rooms are outfitted with funky hounds-tooth patterned carpet and furniture with flat screen TVs and comfy beds. The suites offer a large Jacuzzi bathtub and lounging room worth the upgrade. While the hotel lacks a pool, in-room spa treatments are the next best thing and the open air-marble patio deck with screened-in bar give the feel of a quaint back yard mixed with urban hotspot.
