Pretty Place But Not to Thrilled About the Service
by SugarB75
Went there for drinks with the girls and was a little shocked at the lack of service. Usually we get better service, but not on Saturday night. With all the other asian restaurants in Midtown like Steel and Aja, I don't think we'll go back.
- Pros: Cool seating around the bar area
- Cons: Slow to non-existant service
loved eating at the bar

Nice atmosphere...Decent Food
by bigpjb
We had our girls night out at Straits. We had a decent time but the service was just so- so. We enjoyed our picks from the menu. The owners should work on the customer service. I won't be visiting this restaurant again nor will I refer it to anyone. Once the hype of being "New" dies out they are history if they don't get it together.
- Pros: Nice atmosphere
- Cons: Poor Service
Food not so good and service was the same!

So, I usually don't give restaurants reviews after I've visited one, but after this experience I was prompted to leave a review for Straits. So the night started with me waiting on Juniper St. for 5 mins. behind other cars that were trying to get into the drive way for valet parking. The valet guy must have disappeared while these cars were waiting on the street!!! I then ask the guy if he accepts cards to pay for valet and he said of course. Needless to say when I went to go pick my car up another attendant said that they don't accept cards. I think the bar is the best thing going for this restaurant becasuse the group I was with said the drinks were amazing. I ordered the Garlin Noodle with Chicken, but I wish I would have just ordered a small plate because because those dishes seem to taste better than the ones you are supposed to share as family style. It really didn't seem much like family style anyway. Go to an Ethiopian restaurant for true family style dining. Anyway, my dish was supposedly the best out of the table of 8, and honestly I think I could have ordered the same dish at CPK or someplace similar and it would have tasted better. Also, two of the ladies I was with split one of the chicken dishes that the WAITRESS RECOMMENDED!!! It was battered chicken strips in a peanut sauce. It was HORRIBLE!!!! TOO SALTY AND EXTREMELY BLAND!! UGH!!! They told the waiter to take the plate back because it was not good. Also, this is not the place to expect to have a complimentary birthday dessert, FYI! Also, out waitress was just weird I felt that she was semi condescending in her tone and her facial expressions when she would confront the table. I wouldn't recommend her service. I don't remember her name, but she was tall, Asian girl with long brown hair. I'm always excited to try new restaurants, but I don't think I will recommend Straits!
- Pros: Ambience, drinks, music
- Cons: food, valet, size of establishment, service
Samurai's from Mexico?
by Megan1982
I was at Staights the other night meeting some girlfriends for drinks after work and was thinking about margaritas all day. That translates to the fact that I need a vacation and I start to think about what I would be drinking. Anyways, the helpful bartender suggested a "Mexican Samurai." Not sure the exact mixture, but I do remember this glowing bottle that they used. I believe it was called Ty Ku. Whatever it was, it was delicious and I will definitely be having more. Thinking I should pick up a bottle to take with me if I every get that vacation :)
Dine at the Bar
by anna09
I have dined several times at Straits. The first time, my sister and I were thrilled to try Luda's new spot. Plus, I live in just walking distance. Despite, our waitress taking at least 15 minutes to even acknowledge that we were there and take our drink orders. The "undress" a delicious champaign cocktail and the "red head in bed" a fantastic muddled strawberry martini was worth the wait. We started with the chicken lollipops, which were delicious. Then we had the Oragami Sea Bass, which simply melted in my mouth. In addition, we had a awesome green seafood curry dish. The second time, we were recommended to sit at the bar. The bar was a totally different experience. We had the time of our lives, I had brought 4 of my girlfriends which were visiting from out of town to check out the "new spot." When we arrived, the bar was packed with people and the music was blasting with a DJ, the atmosphere was great. Our bartenders were awesome. the first bartender was a very talkative yet informative fellow by the name of CS. CS had recommended a few delicious appetizers and cocktails for my friends and I. As the food came out, we were automatically distracted by our second bartender. He was this gorgeous asian man by the name of Fern, my friends and I were hoping he was our dessert!!! The bartenders were awesome! They were very attentative, informative, funny and made great drinks. We were also plesantly surprised, when Luda himself was there. He took the time to introduce himself and thank us for coming out, which was awesome. Since the first time, my friends and I have made it a ritual to dine at the bar at least once a week.
- Pros: awesome atmosphere and bar staff
- Cons: wait staff
Lots to choose from on the menu!
by 3waybrandi
My friends and I decided to visit this restaurant because of the Midtown Restaurant Week. Well the $25 menu was awful so we decided to order from the regular menu. There was a vast variety of items to choose from. We ordered three small plates to begin with. And we each ordered an entree, the lemongrass beef, the seafood risotto, and the origami sea bass. They encourage you to share but the portions are not large enough, especially if its more than two people.
- Pros: Variety of food to choose from
- Cons: Prices
Service From Hell, Food-One Dish At A Time!
by jaymaygm
We were excited to try Straits. We knew they had some heavy competition-Silk, Spice Market, etc. The bad experience began at the very loud, out of control bar area. We had reservations, but still had to wait over an hour. We had to flag down the hostess, to finally take us to our table. Then waited another 45 min.. to be finally approached by a very rude, attitude driven waitress. She was not doing us any favors, but was suppose to be doing her job. She said the food came out, dish by dish as ready, and in no paticular order. Well that's exactly what happened. The Kung Pao Lollipop's were excellent, but our waitress's attitude ruined the experience for us, therefore making us unable to really enjoy the food. Totally unacceptible. Straits seems to have fallen into the same category as other celebrity owned establishments around the city, Dupree's, The Grape-Inman Park, and Justin's. They should all take a hint from Glady's Knight's Chicken & Waffles. It's all about great food and good service.
- Pros: Midtown Location! Kung Pao Lollipop's, Possibly The Rest Of The Menu!
- Cons: Terrible Service, Which Ruined The Experience! Hope Luda Makes Some Service Adjustments!
