go!
by imaneats
I'd heard both good and bad things about this place but I thought I'd go anyway and see how I would feel about it. I'm glad I did b/c not only was the food incredible, but so was the service and general ambiance - they have a lot of natural light w/ the big windows and the decor is chic & simple, making the relatively small space feel a lot biger than it really is. I had the gnocchi and my friend had a salmon dish - both of which were delicious! Plus everything was super affordable. I would definitely go back.
- Pros: great ambiance, parking available, amazing food
- Cons: none
What a gem

Stumbled across this neighborhood gem a week ago. Great food, great service, friendly atmosphere. Will be back soon.
- Pros: affordable
- Cons: There aren't more around the city
bigots!
by thomasbanning
I am African American my wife is caucasion, we stepped into the door of the establishment, with an actual 9pm reservation. Then another couple, about 3 minutes later walked in, also a man that was solo. The host finally came, passed by us and went for the other couple, asking them how many were in their party! Then asked the other gentleman how many was in his party! Finally asked us [last]. We will NEVER go back to the place again! It is an overpriced, bigoted, highfalutin, ostentatious, pompous piece of c***!
- Pros: so-so food
- Cons: they really are bigots!
speaking of pretentious...
by tonyclifton22
This place, as another critic spoke of, is so pretentious! The staff themselves think they are in some sort of swank NYC elite club. The food is mediocre, nothing to proverbially write home about. I would never go back to the place ever, especially with it's À la carte menu! You would be better off going to Whole Foods, about a mile away, than to spend your hard earned dollar here.
- Pros: still thinking..hmmm....none.
- Cons: Walking in the door
Pretentious waste of money.
by king2048
Does the phrase "pretentiously unpretentious" mean anything to you?
Don't let the prices on the menu or the barebones, midrange appearance fool you: This place is a-la-carte, and it adds up incredibly quickly. When people here say "inexpensive," they must not be comparing it to other restaurants with plastic chairs.
The food is reasonably good but unexceptional.
Basically, if you want to spend money pretending to be a hipster bohemian, sitting in a faux-retro chair in a drafty attic, go here. If you value your cash -- or authenticity -- avoid it.
- Pros: What food you get, is prepared reasonably well.
- Cons: Expensive, a-la-carte. Not worth it.
Classically Trendy, Palette Pleasing and Inexpensive!

I went to dinner with 3 other friends on a saturday night and we all loved Top Flr! We had a reservation for 10pm but decided to walk in at 9.15. We were seating within about 20 minutes. It was a touch drafty where we were seated but that was a minor let down. We liked most of what we ordered...lamb skewers, oysters, mac and cheese, potatoes, duck pasta and crab lobster, hanger steak. I tried a bit of everyones food and was generally impressed. I loved the crab lobster. I have a delightfully brooding class of Rioja! I def recommend this place to hang out with friends for a for a hot date! Oh, and our waiter was ever so friendly and efficienct!
- Pros: $$, Ambiance, Crab Lobster, Lamb Skewers
- Cons: Small waiting area
Fantastic Food & Wine; Reasonable Prices
by bf321
Top Flr has quickly become one of our favorite "go-to" restaurants. It is great food and wine with reasonable prices. For first-timers, I definitely recommend the hummus appetizer. I also highly recommend the grilled asparagus and tomatoes. And finally, for dessert, the chocolate truffle cake is fabulous! Not only do we enjoy the food and drinks, but the service has always been great for us!
- Pros: Food, Wine, & Atmosphere
- Cons: Parking?
cool afterhours spot
by CSMobileUser
I've been on a couple different occasions, usually late at night, because I work at another restaurant with terrible food and atmosphere. I've always had good service, and usually receive very informed recommendations on food and wine. The crowd and music is always a nice, typical midtown mix. I can't complain about dishes being sold out, because my average arrival time is about 11pm. We've closed down the place before, and gotten not so much as an eye roll from a staff that I know was ready to go home. And, yes, I believe a certain reviewer was a little sensitive; I'm a minority, and pretty sensitive, and I've never even thought about race or witnessed any type of snooty behavior while in top flr.
Disappointed with food and 'tude.

My husband and I recently took our took our foster child (an African-American teenager) out for special holiday treat which included dinner and a show at the Alliance. Our foster-daughter is seventeen, and as smart and sweet as she is mature. The show started at seven, so we had to eat at the obviously uncool time of 5:15 PM. The server who was up for the next table took one look at us, and within earshot, passed us on to the next server. Maybe I'm over-sensitive, but I felt that assumptions were being made about us. The server who was stuck with us was actually extremely cordial and attentive. The food was okay--some tasty dishes, but overall way overpriced.
- Pros: Salmon, cocktails
- Cons: Price
