User Reviews for The Chocolate Bar

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

The unintimidating wine list and out of this world martinis at Chocolate Bar made for a nice romantic after-dinner spot. The service is friendly, patient, and well-groomed. The atmosphere is casually romantic and the chocolate is bam amazing!

Pros: Service, drinks, atmosphere, wine list

Cons: small space, food limited

The impressive chocolate drinks at Chocolate Bar were so sippable and the passion fruit gummies turned me as extatic as Precious Pup, but the FOOD has changed my life! I've had dinner at ALL the great restaurants inside the Atlanta perimeter and all over Europe as well, and nothing comes close to the INTENSE flavors of the Chocolate Bar's Valentine's Day three courses and bonbon special. The chef is a genius, the staff is good-looking, fast and cordial, the clientele is just beautiful, and the atmosphere is 'chocolatier' still with Ed playing classic guitar on Wednsday night. --CCR

Pros: Easy Parking, Mind boggling dishes, Superior wine

Cons: Decatur is a long ways off for me

I've been to che Chocolate Bar numerous times now, since I live nearby, and I have several favorite items like the hot chocolate and the oreo dessert. However, on valentines my husband and I went for the prix fix menu and that's where I really learned how to enjoy the best of the Chocolate Bar - you've got to try several courses together. The desserts are not high in calories and aren't terribly filling, so it makes for a truly enjoyable experience for your palate AND your brain (trying to pick out the layers of subtle flavors). The dessert prices are quite low as well, so it doesn't break the bank if you have more than one course at a time. I feel like I've had a palate education every time I go there and try something new!

Pros: great for open minded people who like to experience and learn about food

Cons: crowded on weekends

Be conversational: Write it as if relaying your experience to a good friend. Be specific: Generalities like "lazy service" or "tasty pizza" leave people wanting more detail. Be yourself: If you're an expert on burgers, let us know. If this is your first-time massage, say so. Compare apples to apples: Burger joints shouldn't be held to the same standards as four-star restaurants.

The staff here has been around since opening, and they know their stuff! The employees seem to actually enjoy their jobs and so they take care of the customers. I had a great experience, the food was different, but delicious. I even met the owner, and what a sweet lady she is!

Pros: Chocolate, service, ambiance

Cons: too small

We went last Sunday night. The staff had ZIP for personality- they were socializing with each other as if we were interrupting their party. The place looked like it was going out of business to be honest, she said they' d had a busy weekend? Still, y'all ever heard of restocking the wine cubbies? We were very excited about going here, had read the review in Atlanta magazine, but were more disappointed than we had been in a long time with a place in Decatur. Maybe this was an off-night or they had the B-team staff in, who knows? Nonetheless, it left a bad taste in our mouth, and we won't be recommending The Chocolate Bar or going back anytime soon. By the way, the food didn't make up for the chilly service. What a shame. Don't waste your time or money, definitely no Southern hospitality here.....

Pros: In Decatur

Cons: Personality of servers, quality of food for price, ambiance, variety.

I was excited to go to this bar. When my friend and I arrived we were greeted by a warm, inviting atmosphere. The service we received, however, was disgraceful . Our server got our order and did not return for 20 mins, we waited as the hostess and another server walked by us and chatted with friends, Finally we alerted the hostess that we were being ignored, and she let our server know. This place has great potentional but the staff is rude and annoying, not worth the effort.

Pros: Nice space

Cons: staff and prices

I was very disappointed in my recent experience at the Chocolate Bar. I went with a bunch of friends and, despite the fact we were buying drinks and chocolate, the owner/manager came over to our table and told us how much money they were losing from our big table taking up so much space ($700 to be exact despite the fact there were empty tables). Every few minutes they asked us if we were ready to go and refused to bring us water. Aside from that fact that they were rude, the chocolate was not anything special. The drinks were not very good, I felt sick after my chocolate martini. I also ordered another signature item - the Oreo - which was very sweet but not very chocolaty. You would be better off spending 2.99 on a bag of real oreos and get more chocolate and less rudeness.

Pros: none

Cons: service, drinks, food

I must recant my previous compliments from before. I went back to the Chocolate Bar to indugle in a bottle of wine and several chocolates and was ASKED TO MOVE TO ANOTHER TABLE!!!! I was livid.. I have never been so insulted and been asked to move in the middle of my dining experience. On top of that shortly after I moved the two table next to me became free which is what I was told was the reason I had to move in the first place. I was not pleased. My waiter was again wonderful but I could not get over what happend. I fully intend on not going there anymore and seeing to it that the owner knows about their management. Because they will no longer get my money!

Pros: Any pros are overshadowed by the negatives

Cons: too bright still, management was rude and disrespectful

I have never posted a review about a restaurant in Atlanta before, but my past experiences at The Chocolate Bar in Decatur have been bad enough to warn other people not to go. I live in downtown Decatur, and I was thrilled when I found out a dessert/wine/cocktail bar was coming last summer. The first time I went, I wasn't completely disappointed, but I also wasn't impressed. The dessert menu is very limited and the portions are tiny. The cocktails are good, no question, but you can go to several other places in Decatur with better service, better prices and equally as nice atmospheres. Though underwhelmed, I decided to give it another try a few months later. I left with the same "ehh" feeling, this time with a little more annoyance due to the fact that the waitress was hitting shamelessly on my boyfriend (when it was just me and him dining...). This past Sunday, we decided to give it a final go. It was around 9 pm, and while there were other patrons, it was by no means busy. Someone sat us at a table, and then we waited. And waited. And waited. Several servers passed by our table but didn't give us a second look. After 15 minutes, we got up and went to Carpe Diem for our dessert and drinks instead. I've heard similar experiences from other friends ("bad service," "too small menu"), so I know it's not only me. If I were in the Decatur area and wanted dessert, I would recommend Carpe Diem. Or, if you are in the market for fun martinis, head up to Birdi's on the square. Don't settle for the bad service in an uptight setting at The Chocolate Bar...it's definitely not worth it.

Pros: Good location, fun drinks

Cons: Bad service, limited menu for what it is
