Expected Better
by kobie01 at Citysearch
My husband and I went to Trois to celebrate my birthday. We were visiting from NYC and were recommended Trois and Joelle. Unfortunately Joelle was closed for renovation and had the unpleasant experience of dining at Trois. I was told 6:30 was the only reservation we could have even though when we left near 9pm, there were more empty tables than I would have expected. We are still trying to figure out why we had two servers while all the other tables around had one. Two servers together were not able to keep the service flowing and one the servers was totally unfriendly. They explained a special of 3 chamagnes to taste and rather than bring one at a time, they brought all three and could not remember which was which. We decided to order a few appetizers to share. Two were not served and one was incorrect- we ordered oysters on the shell and instead given oysters under a heavy sauce that was not very appetizing, When our dinner was delivered, I asked for a glass of wine and had to wait almost 20 minutes, along with a reminder to bring the wine. We sat next to another couple who were not very pleased with their experience as well. I thought the kicker of night was when our plates were cleared and our server asked my husband if he ever ate rabbit before coming to Trois and then proceeded to tell him it tasted like chicken and is a good dish to try. I thought that is a question you ask at the beginning of the service if someone had never eaten a dish like rabbit. They attempted to bring a level of class and failed miserably. I have told my friends living in Atlanta to save their time and their money.
Not Worth the Glamour
by soniwick at Citysearch
I dined at Trois last weekend and I felt the experience was not worth all the glamour it offered. It's a beautifully decorated restaurant with complimentary Champagne toast, etc. However, the portions were way too small (I would never take a guy with a healthy appetite there!). Also, seating was quite crammed. We were so close to our neighbors, we were actually able to converse with them. If you need some privacy during your meal or you want a nice romantic date, this is definitely not the place to go. However, it has a great lounge. So if you want to enjoy a drink or two at the lounge with some friends. I'll recommend Trois.
- Pros: Easy parking, Interior Decor, Ambience, Great Lounge/Bar
- Cons: Crammed seating, small portions, no privacy, too loud for conversations
Nice French Restaurant.
by jcqah at Citysearch
I work at a French Restaurant and I visited Trois as a comparison. Although it is not the same level, I would say Trois is pretty good. Nice and modern decor, the food was alright, it is not the best but there are a few that I like (i.e. sauteed foie gras and the duck breast). The server was friendly. But, I think that the waiting time between each meal is a little bit stretched. I think the Classique $18 meal is worth to try. I might come back for it.
- Pros: Nice decor, $18 Classique Menu
- Cons: No large groups
Trois employee reviewing Trois? Just another testimony to the ethics of the place...
by aorr2exposer at Citysearch
We gave this place two shots also, because the space is nice and it is close to the theater area. However, the food was in no way great, just very average, and the service was poor. Managers were lost and unprofessional. And the three people who wrote about being made to wait were right on target: we had an 8 p.m. reservation and were kept waiting until almost 9 p.m. so we could drink 2 $17 martinis in the lounge downstairs. And aorr2, you may consider yourself outed! You only reviewed one restaurant and it is Trois! Aha! And "Atlanta has arrived"!?!?! Because of Trois??? You are amazing. Atlanta has had great restaurants and nationally ranked ones for 20 years! And by the way, not a single Concentric restaurant is ranked in the top 20 by Zagat, Gayot, or local magazines. What exactly does that say? There are some good venues in that chain, but Trois is not one of them. Nice space, but bad, bad, bad. All these reviewers can't be lying. but you can, aorr2!!! Go back and tell Bob and Todd to get with it and stop sending spies to review!
- Pros: Beautiful space
- Cons: Everything else
ATLANTA HAS ARRIVED
by aorr2 at Citysearch
Ate at Trois for the 3rd time the other night and it only got better. Each experience has been just about flawless, but the chef keeps changing it up and adding even more pleasing dishes. There is not another spot in town that can rival the overall package that trois delivers. I'm a huge fan of all the concentrics restaurants, but Trois will put them on the map nationally like them just being the only restaurant in GA to be listed on Conde Naste Traveller's new hot tables edition. It is the perfect array of ambiance, service, food, wine, decor, and for the most fair prices in town for the quality you receive. I have no idea who the people are that are writing these ridicuous reviews, but I've eaten at all the top restaurants in all the major cities across the globe and Trois would be the hottest restaurant in any city on the map. Totally unique and will prove to be the future of fine dining atlanta style. This is a restaurant that just about anyone should be able to fall in love with. I can't wait to see what they do with Tap, their new gastropub opening soon in the same building. I can' t recommend any specific dishes because I've tried just about the whole menu and I've never been disappointed. The cocktails are just crazy good too. Congrats on another triumph.
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: Always busy
Service was great; food was unimpressive
by sararoberts at Citysearch
My husband and I fancy ourselves foodies and love to try new places. We enjoy Two Urban Licks a lot, and like One Midtown Kitchen as well (though it was more fun with Richard Blais in the kitchen). We found Piebar cool to look at but culinarily unimpressive. Unfortunately, Trois was a similar experience. The dining room is beautiful, and we arrived at sunset, when the room was aglow. We were impressed with the offering of an amuse and small glass of champagne (even if I didn't actually like the melon gazpacho and my husband didn't like his enough to eat mine).
We had the smoked salmon and foie gras appetizers. I was a bit disappointed that the foie gras wasn't a pate. The salmon appetizer was good but not a "wow" dish. When we ordered our entrees, I ordered the beef burgundy and was promptly steered away from it by our server. While I was thankful to our waiter that he kept me away from a disappointing meal, I think the restaurant has been in operation long enough that disappointing entrees should have, by now, been improved or removed from the menu! I ended up ordering the kobe steak. It was a steak -- and not a $31 steak at that. It was good, but not great. My husband's oxtail was a far superior dish, but still not a "wow" offering. I had desert, the warm chocolate clafoutis. It was basically a warm brownie with an ice cream (mint) and a sorbet (chocolate), and as uninteresting as a brownie can be, it was the highlight of my meal.
After two glasses of wine, two apps, two entrees, one desert and one cup of coffee, we were stuck with a $125 tab ($150 with tip) and a little lingering disappointment.
Two is the far superior restaurant. Spare yourself the disappointment, and head there for dinner.
- Pros: Beautiful dining room, capable and friendly staff
- Cons: The food
Nothing Extraordinary! Very Pretentious Food?
by beccs1979 at Citysearch
If Trois had open 5 years ago in Atlanta it would be amazing! Atlanta has a lot of wonderful restaurants without being so pretentious. I love small plates, but their proportions are extremely small.Trois thinks they are the best thing to open Atlanta & they are just so so?
- Pros: Trois Martini is wonderful
- Cons: Overprice typical food... very small proportions
Slow Service
by auburn2 at Citysearch
We went last night for drinks at Trois. It took us 20 minutes for them to serve us a drink and the bar was only a third full. The drinks we ordered were only wine and beer!!! After telling our waitress that we wanted our bill, she disappeared!!! The drinks were overpriced and the servers were terrible. I'd NEVER bother going there again. Too many other places in midtown who appreciate their customers!!!
pleasant lunch experience
by missscorpio30 at Citysearch
My friends and I had lunch at trois on 01-15-2007. The restaurant has a good ambiance, nice wine selection, and tasteful food. The waitress was ok. Interested in seeing how it is at night. Downstairs seems like a nice environment for happy hour. my friends and I speak fluent french and thought it would have been nice if someone who greeted us either at the door or at our table knew a little french. :-)
- Pros: Ambiance, parking, wine list
- Cons: service
Surprisingly Good Experience
by dakota1212 at Citysearch
After experiencing One Midtown Kitchen , Two Urban Licks and Lobby with inconsistent service and food, I was hesitant to try Trois. I had easily become used to a dark ambience with the bar and restaurant almost as one. I expected Trois to be no different. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised. Trois is the other end of the spectrum from these restaurants. Light, modern and sophisticated were first impressions. The bar is sleek and inviting, with a unique drink menu (the Trois cocktail is divine). Ample open seating and several neat secluded booths with flat screens awaited us. After a short wait in the bar on the main level, we were escorted upstairs to the dining area. I had expressed concern to the hostess about where we would be seated, because to me that can make or break the whole experience. So I was pleased when we were placed at a fabulous center table. Although after I was seated I looked around and saw that there probably wasn't a bad table in the restaurant. The service was immediate and attentive throughout our meal. Having two waiters for our fourtop meant we didn't have to do the awkward finger wave to get what we needed. The menu changes daily and it was very hard to decide, because there were many desirable items to choose from. In fact I let the waiter choose my appetizer and wound up with a very fresh and tasty tuna tartar. My friend had something with scallops and that was excellent. I hope it is on the menu when I go back. Our main dishes were also excellent, among us were 2 veal dishes, fish and the lobster with edamame. All very tasty. Desserts were delectable... chocolate, chocolate, chocolate. I hope Trois can maintain this higher standard of dining and not compromise itself to the lower standards that many restaurants assume in order to become the next great restaurant.. of the moment.
- Pros: Sophisticated Dining
