Hot bar, cold dining room

The atmosphere is certainly continental, but the menu seemed too similar to its midtown sidekick. The service was fine, but didn't seem appropriately matched to the menu prices. Plus, the server?s tight white pants and pouchy tummies left a lot to be desired (I recommend black pants!). My tilapia was delightful, but my husband?s snapper reminded me of whale blubber.
Overpriced, Snooty service, not great food
by shagenb at Citysearch
I love one midtown kitchen and two urban licks but Trios, also owned by concentrics, falls short. The service is snooty and the food is not worth the extremely high prices they charge. We made reservations and were not seated until 30 minutes after our reservation time. The atmosphere is so trendy that I think they forgot to focus on the reason they are in business, the food.
Go for cocktails with the girls if you want to pay NYC prices in Atlanta.
- Pros: nice decor
- Cons: expensive for the quality of food, wait staff snooty and not attentive
Food overshadowed by everything else
by autmac at Citysearch
Went last week and was thoroughly disappointed. The first "shocker" is that as soon as you walk in there is a small area with a hostess stand and 2 doors to restrooms complete with a short line to get in. These restrooms apparently serve the bar immediately to the left but to say it is an awkward arrangement is an understatement. After ascending the 300 (slight exaggeration) stairs it takes to get up to the dining room we were seated at a table that was so small our party of 4 was bumping knees. Once we added wine bottles, glasses, bread, etc., we all joked that there was no room for the dinner plates. Beyond the small table was the fact that ours was one of seemingly hundreds of similar small tables. The man seated at a table behind me had to ask me to move just so he could get out to go to the bathroom. Wait staff also bumped into me all night as they had no way to get to their tables. The service was pretentious and unpleasent. When my friend asked what beers were available the waiter said "Well.....the cheapest thing we have is Miller Lite, so we can start there." Then when we ordered a bottle of wine that was not his suggested $90.00 bottle of wine he said "FIne!" Although he later warmed up later (around tip time) he had long since lost this group. All that being said, we all actually enjoyed our food. The onion soup was the best I ever had and the duck was out of this world. One bit of warning, the sides (shared by the table) arrive in small iron dishes that are very hot to the touch - I'm sure our waiter meant to mention that. We all agreed that this was a great place to look at but not a nice place to sit in and have a meal. I feel sorry for the chef that his food is so overshadowed by everything else in Trois. With fewer tables and more attention to service it could be a very good dining experience. It's a shame that the most pleaseant person we met all night was the valet.
- Pros: The food
- Cons: Everything but the food - passes the looks test but not "user friendly"
worst dessert, average service
by atlvol at Citysearch
I have to say that Trois had the worst dessert I have ever tasted. There were sea salts in the caramel pudding and when I asked the waitress about it, she said it was a great surprise. I was thinking a bad surprise. The entrees were decent and the decor is beautiful. The service was slow and the average priced entree is very high.
Not Recommended at all......

I ate at Trois with some friends the first week of January. We just went to the downstairs bar to have a few drinks and chit chat. when asked about their wine selection, our waitress had no knowledge of red wine whatsoever. None. She also accidentally poured the wine on one of the women I was there with. Again, we asked for her reccommendation of a light snack to which she answered the cheese plate. When asked on her reccomendation of cheeses, again she had no knowledge. Lastly, when ordering the cheese plate, she indictated there would be "plenty" of cheese for us to share (mind you, there were three of us). when the plate came, there was less than a teaspoon (maybe half a teaspoon) of three different cheeses. And one of them was awful (although which one escapes me). I will not be going back to Trois again.
Don't waste your time, money or calories!

My wife and I and our good friends went to Trois this evening to celebrate up coming birthdays. Reservations were made well in advance and we arrived in our best ready for a great dining experience.
The restaurant tables were at best 30% occupied. We were offered the "best" table - up stairs in the overflow room which was 100% vacant. We were then offered a table that was tightly stuck between two other tables against the window. When this was declined we got a decent table. Not a great start - but then came the food. Among the four of us we had a good selection of dishes. All were at best average to well below par. Salads were no more than bagged greens tossed on a plate with either warm goat cheese or in the case of the "simple salad" a few olives and tomatoes - better salads can be had for less at the Rising Roll or many other fast food outlets. Fish dishes were over done and saturated with cooking oil. The cassoulet was uninspired, you could open a can a do as well.
All this poor fare was washed down with two bottles of French wine (which for the price was not that great) for a bill of well over $300. Service was awkward and a little frazzled. Again, not what you should expect at a restaurant that is trying to put forth a high end image.
Go back? No. There are just too many good restaurants in Atlanta to waste time, money and calories at Trois.
- Pros: Nice space - like the art work.
- Cons: Poor quality food!
Do not eat here
by mandy14 at Citysearch
Okay, so we were super excited to try this new restaurant becuase we were such huge fans of Two Urban Licks. Do not go here, the service was terrible. We had 8:30 reservations on Friday night, we maybe sat down at 10:45. The line at the bar was four deep and it took 30 minutes to get a bar tenders attention for a drink. After waiting for over two hours, with over $100 bar tab, no part of our meal was comped, and we had to wait ten minutes out side in the freezing cold for the valet to bring out car around. The decor was like a huge bright light shining in your face, not comfy or cozy feeling like the other restaurants. I can't tell you if the food was good or not, by 11:00 when we finally got something to eat, anything would have tasted good.
NOT Yet Ready for Prime-Time!

Trois is a very trendy and unique 3-level restaurant (lounge/bar downstairs and private event area upstairs). The food is quite decent, but very much a departure from "ONE Midtown Kitchen" and "TWO Urban Licks." Many of the entrees are rendentions of classic French brasserie food. Personally, the appetizers were far more interesting than the majority of the main dishes.
The modern decor is a sight in itself. The only poor design is the fact that the lounge and restaurant share bathrooms (a.k.a. expect to wait). Given the recent opening of "Trois," complimentary champage was served to all tables. However, this in no way made up for the rather confused and poor service.
The service is in dire need of improvement. One of our entrees came out 10 minutes after all the others. Wine was ordered prior to the entree, and, when reminded, the waiter kept saying "the bar is working on it now." Well, needless to say we had finished the entrees before the waiter had the nerve to then serve our glasses of wine while clearing our plates.
Don't get me wrong, this restaurant has great potential; it's simply not there yet. For better food, service, and price, try "ONE Midtown Kitchen" before taking the risk at "Trois."
- Pros: Ambiance, Trendy
- Cons: Poor Service, Confused Staff, Unimpressive Menu
Reservations required for the bar...
by perfectcocktail at Citysearch
After hearing some of the buzz about Trois and a fan of Two Urban Licks and One Midtown Kitchen we decided to checkout Mr. Amick's newest addition to the Atlanta restaurant scene. While we didn't have dinner in the main dining room, we decided to stop by the lower level bar for a few cocktails. We arrived at 10:30pm and were told that we could not enter the bar because we did not have reservations. We peaked into the bar and it was only 25% full so we were a bit confused. Caught scratching our head a member of our party went to the restroom and used their cell phone to call the restaurant to make reservations for about 5 minutes later. Once the member of our party left the restroom we informed the hostess that one of our friends did indeed call ahead and upon checking their computer system she was able to let us enter. To be quite honest, I wish we didn't go into the bar. While modern in decor the layout seems like someone was on an acid trip when they designed the place... VIP booths with televisions, furniture that resembles that of my grandmothers (I was looking for the clear plastic film that covers most of her furniture), and a floor that is lit from below. The bar itself is visually cool, but overall it is just a hodge-podge of mediocrity. The cocktails were average, however if you are a vegetarian or Vegan you may want to ask the bartender or waitress what drinks are safe to drink--as some have egg in them (even though the menu make no note of it). The cru we sampled was good, but the Lobster Corn Dog was aweful... we took one bite and hot steam/water shot into our mouths from the lobster and gave us no other option than to deposit it in a napkin. I would also suggest that you ask for crushed ice for your cocktail as some of the drinks are just served with a large block of ice which takes forever to adequately chill your cocktail. Overall the bar needs major improvement... with an experience like this at the bar, I think we'll pass on the actual restaurant.
- Pros: New Restaurant
- Cons: Must have reservations, Overpriced Cocktails, Lobster Corn Dog
