Not Worth the Glamour

by soniwick at Citysearch

I dined at Trois last weekend and I felt the experience was not worth all the glamour it offered. It's a beautifully decorated restaurant with complimentary Champagne toast, etc. However, the portions were way too small (I would never take a guy with a healthy appetite there!). Also, seating was quite crammed. We were so close to our neighbors, we were actually able to converse with them. If you need some privacy during your meal or you want a nice romantic date, this is definitely not the place to go. However, it has a great lounge. So if you want to enjoy a drink or two at the lounge with some friends. I'll recommend Trois.

  • Pros: Easy parking, Interior Decor, Ambience, Great Lounge/Bar
  • Cons: Crammed seating, small portions, no privacy, too loud for conversations

good food, but noisy and slow.

by swissmiss2000 at Citysearch

Three friends and I had a reservation for 9pm, but were seated around 9:25. Our waiter first stopped by around 9:45. Admittedly, the restaurant was busy, but it felt like we were being ignored. As the crowd eased up, service improved marginally. Our food was tasty - our selections included foie gras, mussels (very good and prepared in an original fashion), duck, and several desserts. Vegetarians should be aware that their options will be rather limited, except for onion soup, gnocchi and a "vegetarian plate" that is not on the menu. The atmosphere is elegant - however, it was hard to hear people at our own table, and the waiter acknowledged that he had trouble hearing us. Visit to the restroom proved to be frustrating, as they are a bit overdesigned. All four of us were confused as to how to flush the toilet (there's a button on the side of the bowl one has to push... kind of gross) - but that's a minor gripe.

Save your money for another Restaurant......

by madfoodcritic at Citysearch

Even though several reviews regarding this restaurant were all negative. I decided to give this place a chance; boy did I make a huge mistake. Upon entering my party of 4 was told that our table wasn?t ready, no Surprise there!!! Was immediately directed to go to the famous bar down stairs while they tried to sort out where to place my group. Great atmosphere, a lot of eye candy - however $$ pricey, 4 drinks and one shot of Patron Silver came up to $69.00. The Bar area was packed. The worst feeling in the world is to be bumped into several times over and over. I started getting very annoyed. About 25 minutes had passed and I went back up stairs to inquire about our table and the little hostess seemed stressed out and worried like she didn?t know how long it was going to take to get a F@#king Table. So I made a decision to take my party of 4 to Pricci?s and had a wonder dinner. When I dine out I never order from the menu. I tell my sever what I would like and the restaurant will get as close to my request as possible. Try it some time its fun... Chef DaCruz.

Bad Service and Filthy

by starrman at Citysearch

On June 8th five of us decided to try out Trios.

We arrived and were seated on time. The table that we were seated at had a dirty tablecloth on it complete with dirt and human hair. We called over the waiter and were moved to a table that was clean. The food overall was average at best. The service was horrible and included the following events:

1. Bad bottle of wine.

2. Piece of foil in the salad

3. No serving utensils brought out with the sides.

4. Had to ask for bread

5. Had to ask for bread

6. Filthy Napkins. My wife was using a Napkin that was clean on one side turned it over three quarters of the way through the meal and it was filthy on the other side.

7. One of our party got up left the table and the waiter folded his Napkin and gave it to another customer as he was returning to his table.

I can honestly say that this was the worst dining experience that I have had in Atlanta in the last 20 years.

Nice French Restaurant.

by jcqah at Citysearch

I work at a French Restaurant and I visited Trois as a comparison. Although it is not the same level, I would say Trois is pretty good. Nice and modern decor, the food was alright, it is not the best but there are a few that I like (i.e. sauteed foie gras and the duck breast). The server was friendly. But, I think that the waiting time between each meal is a little bit stretched. I think the Classique $18 meal is worth to try. I might come back for it.

  • Pros: Nice decor, $18 Classique Menu
  • Cons: No large groups

Phenomenal!

by 5chastain5 at Citysearch

Dinner at Trois last Thursday was one of the best meals I have ever eaten. I'm talking New York, San Francisco, London, Paris this was unbelievable! I was extremely skeptical after reading other reviews but I had a fabulous experience. To be completely honest, the evening started out shaky with our first waitress but I think they could see this and quicky removed her (for good I hope). The rest of the evening was fantastic. We had wonderful champagne, french onion soup, mixed greens salad a la mode and the flounder. Finally topping it all off with the dark chocolate cake, divine. It was truly just too delicious for words. I am so proud of Atlanta for finally having a great restaurant I could cry! This is the place to take friends from the "top tier" cities because they will not believe it.

fun and exciting atmosphere ...though i felt like i was in a mont blanc store on michigan ave.

by hamabafeel at Citysearch

Coming from an international family,..born in the far east, raised in Paris, and educated in England,..i have had my fair share of exposure to both the new and old, the classic and the trendy, the ultra contrived and overly styled and of course the few successes between all the misguided muck that people have over the years come to recognize as truly inspired restaurants. Not only for the design and not only for the staff, and not soley for the food, the truly wonderful dining establishments, regardless of where and under what conceptual guise all share one thing in common and in my mind that is SOUL. Irrevocable, unquestionable, ?soul? ....something that acts like the binder in a recipe,...it does its job silently and without obstructing any other element of the personality?its normally invisible,?something that a guest just comes to accept, feel and crave. Totally intangible, its magnetic and draws you back to the ?place? ?its magical like drinking wine while you are visiting the winery or eating fresh cheese while standing in the milking parlor,?it?s the mussels and pomme frite and the roar of city public transit while sitting in a cobblestone piazza....It only tastes and feels that way while you are there and its all good.

The last thing Atlanta needs now is another insipid, ?soulless? chic, wannabe restaurant. These fellas that own this chain need to take a good look around at the groups that are actually doing it right?groups that expand thoughtfully ,..groups that take the time to listen to the city, to contribute healthfully to the community and to steep their vision in ?soul? not glitz. I agree with an aforementioned comment,?cumon guys,?get it together, slow down,?whatever happened to quality over quantity?is this your exit strategy for the big sell? each time i drive by this pretentious vortex i recall my overwhelmingly fetid experience and like an involuntary spasm, . i feel the urge to drive straight to Buford highway for my gastro redemption.

Wonderful experience...

by foodie4all at Citysearch

Visiting TROIS last weekend for a third time confirmed that it is one of the cities most fabulous restaurants. For young professionals (22-30) who are constantly searching for trendy Atlanta hotspots, TROIS is surely a place to see and be seen. On Saturday night, three girlfriends and I went to TROIS without a reservation. We told the hostess upstairs that we would like to be seated in the main dining room, but we wanted to have a drink at the bar downstairs first. As a former New Yorker, I have frequented many eccentric, modern lounges and the bar at TROIS is definitely on a pedestal in my book. The decor is edgy but still inviting... you feel nothing less than chic while sipping a cocktail, surrounded by floor to celing glass walls. The posh, yet sophisticated ambiance of this restaurant is truly addictive. When we were seated upstairs, the three of us shared the soft potato gnocchi, "toad in a hole", and lobster salad... all delicious. We also ordered the prime beef tenderloin with fois gras, mushrooms and spinach and devoured it... savoring every last bite! I have been consistenly pleased with the service, food and crowd at TROIS and will continue to suggest this restaurant to all out of town guests, my friends, family, co-workers for happy hour, etc. A night at TROIS is definitely a night to experience...trust me!!!

mediocre food, confused service personnel, never go back

by atlantafoodcritic at Citysearch

We had an 8:30 reservation and the table was not ready. We were showed to the bar and never retrieved. A hostess spilled a cocktail all over the sleeve of our suede coat and never apologized. Forty-five minutes after our reservation we had to ask for our table. We were shown to the upstairs dining room which wasn't even full. Our server didn't show for 10 min, then appetizers didn?t arrive at the same time. The lobster salad had no taste. The duck crepe was well presented, but tasted like burnt oil. We each had a bite sent the rest back. A manager apologized for the poor food and removed it from the bill.

Our waiter seemed to have been removed from our table and was hurriedly waiting on every table in the upstairs dinning area. Staff bringing food from the kitchen seemed lost about where to go with it ? several turned back to the kitchen. The entrees (2 monkfish and 1 halibut) all came cold at 9:45pm. The fourth ? venison duo - arrived several minutes later . The manager offered to take them back. The venison duo grilled portion was quite tasty but the roast portion had that same burnt oil taste as the duck crepe. We inquired about seeing the owner for a second time but he never came.

The manager offered us desert. A selection of deserts came (two chocolate cakes, a rhum cake and a key lime pie). The chocolate mousse and the black forest cake were delicious. The rhum cake was dry as a bone, even with the sauce. The key lime pie was awful and had a gimmicky raspberry gel inside and the meringue with - a sugar glaze but tasted like unsweetened gelatin ? was the worst ever.

The manager was very nice and apologized profusely for the problems at each step of our dinner and comped the entire meal. We understand there will be problems while dining, but many of these can be easily corrected. Trois has been open since mid-fall 2006 and the reservation issues, cold food and apparently confused staff should have been worked out a long time ago.

  • Pros: nice appealing space
  • Cons: bad food, worse service, long line at the valet

Trois employee reviewing Trois? Just another testimony to the ethics of the place...

by aorr2exposer at Citysearch

We gave this place two shots also, because the space is nice and it is close to the theater area. However, the food was in no way great, just very average, and the service was poor. Managers were lost and unprofessional. And the three people who wrote about being made to wait were right on target: we had an 8 p.m. reservation and were kept waiting until almost 9 p.m. so we could drink 2 $17 martinis in the lounge downstairs. And aorr2, you may consider yourself outed! You only reviewed one restaurant and it is Trois! Aha! And "Atlanta has arrived"!?!?! Because of Trois??? You are amazing. Atlanta has had great restaurants and nationally ranked ones for 20 years! And by the way, not a single Concentric restaurant is ranked in the top 20 by Zagat, Gayot, or local magazines. What exactly does that say? There are some good venues in that chain, but Trois is not one of them. Nice space, but bad, bad, bad. All these reviewers can't be lying. but you can, aorr2!!! Go back and tell Bob and Todd to get with it and stop sending spies to review!

  • Pros: Beautiful space
