Food Critics Please Read

by yourmomismyridehome

I think it's funny how all of the self proclaimed food critics like to bash this place, and then give mad praise. I have decided to step out of my daily grind and join the ranks of these so called critics, so, here it goes.....

This place freakin rocks! The food was amazing (musseles, crab, salmon).... The beer was quite cold (even on the roof top in the middle of July).... The limes complimented the Patron shots (we'll call them training wheels).... The service was on point (probably because we came to spend money).... The price was quite cheap (see above)....The atmosphere was a knock out (and i don't even like french people)...The manager was the best i've ever seen with guest (and she was a hot blonde)... and the dessert? words can't describe it (we had another shot of Patron)....

Now, for all the "food critics" that probablly came from the swamp lands of sout Ga, If you don't like the price, Get a real Job Hippie! I hear the health dept is hiring. If you don't like the food, i hear they have a wonderful roof top to jump off . You know this place is the sh*t, admit it and move on!

Thank you FAB!!! We will be back!

can't be beat

by EddieJ44

I just went to FAB for the first time two weeks ago for a friend's rehearsal dinner and I was so blown away that I actually went back for dinner the next week!!!

In terms of private dinners, FAB was by far one of the best I have ever been to (and considering I am from the south and 25, I go to a LOT of these things!). The service was phenomenal. I barely realized they were there. We started with a cocktail hour on the beautiful rooftop and it was truly magical. So much so, it was hard to get us all downstairs for dinner.

We took the elevator to the floor below the roof (3 maybe?) and there awaiting us was an entire floor to ourselves with a bar and a huge room perfect for our group of 100!

From there it continued to get better as FAB definitely does not do your typical banquet food. Almost everything was straight from the menu and delicious.

Bottom line, if you need a place for a party call them!

When I went back as a regular diner, I sat in the downstairs dining room. My server was actually French! The food once again was great. Mussels are to die for and you have to try their steak. I swear it is better than most steak houses in Atlanta. The owner even stopped by to do a personal table visit which you just don't see anymore.

All in all, food and service are top notch and the ambiance is truly something different than all these warehouse modern places opening up all over the city.

we were impressed

by wall9090

Decided to check this place out. don't understand the mixed reviews, because we had a great time! I had no idea you can dine on the roof! The roof rocks!!!!!! Service was very detailed and friendly. Our waiter recommended a fish - skate? This was the best dish I've tried! I highly recommend this place. We even showed up in jeans and a tee shirt, with no problem! I didn't get the attitude I was expecting...wow! This really is a friendly place!!!!!

There seem to be some problems here

by neatomosquito

Well, I put off writing because there is one thing really cool going on at FAB. The upstairs patio is a wonderful space. You're below the tall buildings around you and it feels kind of eerily like NYC. In fact the whole building/location is sort of NYCish. I have to say I'm anxious to get back to the patio when the weather warms up. But, they're supposed to be all about food and unfortunately that's where they take a tumble. Three out of four of our appetizers were way over salted. Tragic. We flagged down the waiter and told him there was a problem in the kitchen. So, the mains came out under salted. What gives? I must give props to the owner. He came over to make general conversation and we commented on the salt problem. He gave us all a free dessert. Very kind. We didn't expect it but quite frankly it was a very good move on his part since this salt issue is kind of a big deal. I noticed that someone else mentioned it too. Bottom line is I do want to sit up on that fabulous patio this summer but definitely will not be eating in the dining room.

  • Pros: Fantastic Upstairs Patio

Major Disappointment!

by Vakelis

I thought I might impress my parents during their visit to Atlanta over Christmas with a nice, expensive dinner. My neighbor suggested FAB. Unfortunately, it was an absolutely embarrassing experience for me. Our server spoke fragmented English and picked his nose at the table. We waited almost twenty minutes for our first round of drinks. The only thing worse than the lack of any semblance of service was the food. My mother ordered the monkfish which she couldn't eat because it was so incredibly salty and smelled like sneakers filled with Bleu cheese six weeks after a good soaking from Hurricane Katrina. My father had a miniscule briquette of beef that was considered to be their petit filet. They translated medium rare as extra well done cooked with a weight on top. (The only moisture on the table was the melting ice in our empty water glasses.) My father never received the truffle potatoes or the side of spinach that he ordered. On top of this, we were practically forced out the door by the host. He was incredibly rude and dismissive. I actually requested to speak to the manager/owner, and then I was informed that he was the owner - "What's your problem?" "We were going to close an hour ago," he informed me. And guess what - his name is actually FAB! What an unsuccessful egomaniac! I emphatically disuade anyone from patronizing this establishment.

Top Notch Service

by fdenoyer

Recently dined at F.A.B for dinner and had a very nice time. Although I hate that my beloved Brasserie Le Coze would ever relocate from the stately Lenox address to a downtown venue, once inside, I enjoyed myself. I had a glass of champagne at the bar with my wife before we sat down for dinner and enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, despite it being a little empty for a Friday night. I guess thats the recession for you. Our server for the evening was a young woman named Mila, and if I ever go back I will ask for her everytime. My wife and I only get so many nights out together and when we do something always goes wrong. Mila, however, made this very rare night out for us one of the best. We shared the duck pate, which was very good and of course I had to have the skate wing, which was also beautiful and reminded me of the many nights at Le Coze. My wife had the roast chicken, perfectly cooked and moist. For dessert, we had a hard time making a decision, but again Mila came to the rescue. She recommended the Apple Tart, also one of my favorites from long ago. It's good to see that some traditions are able to be carried on. Obviously, the kitchen cares enough to know the history behind that food and so did our server. I miss the old Le Coze, but I will definately come back to F.A.B., it is a gem hidden in downtown but people need to remember.

Tasty Food, Drinks Could Use Some Work!

by ATLSteve

Went here with my partner for dinner one night.

We arrived early for our reservation so we could check out the rooftop bar.

The bar was extremely slow to make drinks and they weren't very good. Their house drinks tend to be uncreative and bland. The view of downtown is nice.

Dinner was good, my partner got the sweet breads and I ordered the Coq au vin. Both were well cooked and their Coq au vin sauce was excellent. They use chicken instead of rooster, however.

BEST DUCK EVER!

by persephone13

I went to FAB late last night. We had a little problem finding it since our GPS didn't think that "Ivan Allen Jr. BLVD" existed, but happened to stumble upon it. There's a huge sign on top that says "French American Brasserie" so that was helpful. The valet parking was fine but one of the valet gentlemen was rather crudely hitting on me indirectly. We were seated fairly quickly given that it was 9:30pm on a Saturday night, and our blonde waitress was wonderful. We were evidently one of her few pleasant tables, as evidently some rather unpleasant people had been showing up all week for their Restaurant Week $25/3 course special.

We chose FAB because I was specifically looking for a french restaurant that had both escargot and duck, and FAB did these both amazingly. These are my favourite two foods, and this was EASILY the BEST duck I've ever had.

Even with two glasses of champagne, two main courses, & two appetizer, our meal still came out to only around $85 before tip, which was fantastic given the quality of the food. I suggest the duck confit whole heartedly, and be sure to get the two leg for $22, otherwise you'll be very sad that it's gone after the first one. It came with garlic french fries, which I thought was kind of odd at first, but even those were done perfectly. The sauce served with the duck was very strong, but was placed on the side, so that was helpful. It was delicious in small doses.

This is a wonderful, romantic date spot, and as long as you're nice to the servers, they're nice to you. The table next to us was all kinds of rude and demanding free things, so of course the server was exasperated.

  • Pros: Duck, Escargot, beautiful interiors, good foreign music after closing time, seated quickly without reservation
  • Cons: bad choice of cheesy club music before 11pm when they close

Fabulous Food, Bad Service

by kathy30606

Ate at FAB over the weekend. First I want to say that the food was AMAZING! I wish I could say the same for the service. We had a drink at the bar before dinner and the bartender was unengaging and unfriendly. Once we sat down, the pattern continued. Our server seemed much more concerned about the table down from us and we were an after thought. The food came out WAY to quick especialy since we ordered a bottle of wine and were trying to have relaxing dinner. It took the waiter 20 MINUTES to come pick up our credit card and check to pay. We were pretty irritated by the time we left. I defintely got the feeling that they cater to the regulars from the Buckhead location and we were the outsiders. Not a great way to treat potential new customers at a new location.
