POOR service

by Electra720

I've driven by this place so many times and finally decided to check it out one night on my way home from work. I walked in, sat at the bar and ordered some soup and curry. And waited. And waited. And waited some more. Luckily, I passed the time chatting with someone else eating at the bar, but watched the waiter pass me every few minutes for HALF AN HOUR.

After about 30 minutes, and after unsuccessfully trying to get the waiter's attention, someone else walked in to pick up their takeout. I asked the girl how long ago she put in her order: 25 minutes ago. She pays, the waiter gives her her food, and she leaves. I ask the waiter where my food is. He gives me a bewildered look and says he'll be right back. He returns to tell me that the kitchen is "really backed up" right now and they haven't even STARTED on my order. I demanded a refund and left. I wouldn't recommend eating here, nor will I give it another shot.

  • Pros: I wouldn't know
  • Cons: Bad service

Lovely on every level

by gobytrain

What a wonderful place! Lovely and very authentic, not just the food but the people too! Not coddling service, which I find cloying and phony, but generous and considerate. It's the sum of the parts that creates an environment that manages to relax you without your awareness until it has been accomplished.

  • Pros: Relaxing without trying too hard
  • Cons: None really, except to say somehow your own attitude will perpetuate your experience.

Best Thai in Midtown

by AtlantisAlert

For authentic Thai food that is as good, if not better than Nan for half the price, Sbydee is the spot. More familiar dishes like Masaman and Pad Thai are delicious and more expertly flavored than anywhere in town. But the menu rewards you for being adventurous. The Basil Seafood is spicy without dominating the flavor and the Kai Himapan cashew chicken is perfect. The ingredients used in these dishes are so fresh, our server even showed us plants growing in the restaurant that are used to flavor them. It's easy to miss, but there is free parking behind the restaurant accessed from Juniper or 10th Street. Sbydee's staff is warm and quick to remember you, even what you ordered last time. The owner is always present and proud of her restaurant. She should be.

Great food, and a relaxed atmosphere!

by nowhammies

My girlfriend and I tried to eat here once, but they told us that they were going to close. That kind of upset me a little bit because many people were still eating, and I think someone might have even walked in. I was upset with this restaurant for some time, but my girlfriend and I came back and actually had dinner. I must say there is not a lot to say about the decor of the restaurant. It was nice, but wasn't unique. I liked how it was open, and relaxed. At many restaurants you have a stuffy atmosphere that makes it uncomfortable to even eat. The waiters were nice. I say that in plural form because I am not sure who our waiter was, it seemed liked everyone got a piece of the serving action. The appetizers were small but great. We had the dumplings, which were really good, and a bread type of appetizer with a peanut type dipping sauce. I enjoyed both very much, and my girlfriend enjoyed them as well. The entrees we ordered were the duck and the catfish. Forgive me for not providing the correct names of the entrees but both were spicy and delicious. The ingredients were very fresh, and the duck and catfish were cooked to perfection. The entrees were not so big as to where they would completely stuff you until you felt like blowing chunks. The portions I think were proper and just right. They could have given me a bigger portion of rice, but I am 200+ pounds so I need a little more rice than most people. We didn't opt for dessert, but I loved the restaurant and think that everyone who reads should give it a try. Oh and I forgot to mention the duck was nice and crispy on the outside, but very tender on the inside, also the catfish was breaded which was great because it was a nice texture with cooked, but semi-crispy vegetables. The prices were also very reasonable. I was very surprised.

  • Pros: Food, service, atmosphere
  • Cons: Rice portion was not big enough, but I easily could have asked for more.

best thai in atlanta!

by lawgrl07

i've been eating at thai restaurants in atlanta for the past 7 years - this is by far the best - sbydee has very friendly staff, who are extremely attentive and attend to you throughout your meal. the food is excellent - the curries and noodles doesn't taste the same like other thai restaurants in the area, but have a unique new flavor to them. prices are also very reasonable. plenty of parking in the back lot. if you like thai food, this is place you must try out!

  • Pros: Ambiance, Staff, Delicious Food

Great food, incredibly nice and friendly staff

by rubaflo

This small family owned Thai restaurant is a great place to come for a different variety of Thai dishes then many of the other similar places in Atlanta. The food is all fresh and cooked to perfection. The staff was attentive and willing to accommodate any request we made. I intend on returning here and would strongly recommend it to anyone.

Don't skip the starters: It's the little things that count at this gracious Midtown eatery.

The Scene
Flourishes of color and tweaks in design soften and cozy up this decidedly minimalist space, where built-in partitions divide the once cellar-like room into more intimate sections. Service is a treat--attentive yet unobtrusive, and as hospitable as you might expect from a restaurant whose name translates roughly into "How's it going?"

The Food
There's enough to like on this menu, but the kitchen seems to suffer from underestimating its patrons' tolerance for heat and depth of flavor. Curries are among the weakest suits--red and penang versions finish with an unpleasant bitterness, and the green lacks its usual complexity and heat. Pad kee mao is is undeniably tasty, though not drunk with heat, as is custom. The small dishes feel more honest: Tofu larb is dressed with a well-realized harmony of lime, fish sauce and fiery chiles; similarly sauced shrimp are soaked through with intense, tart-sweet flavor.

Empty restaurant should have been a sign

by lrmack

I stopped in Sbydee one weekend afternoon for lunch. Having passed by multiple times and noticed the inviting patio and charm, I thought it was worth a try. My sister and I walked into a completely empty dining room and quickly opted to sit outside to avoid the awkwardness. We were both a bit disappointed that there wasn't a lunch menu and opted for soup and appetizers over a heavy meal. The food was presented nicely and overall had a good flavor. Our waiter was attentive but considering we were the only customers, a bit more engagement wouldn't have hurt. With all of the Thai restaurants in the area, a restaurant needs to be great in all aspects to keep me coming back in the future. Sbydee's greatest feature is definitely location.

  • Pros: Convenient location
  • Cons: Nothing worth remembering
