Fun atmosphere to dance and the bar is right there. The bartenders are friendly and remember your drink and even give shots to the bar on the house, which i thought was real cool and thats why im a regular..
I love el bar
- Pros: new cold air cond, great cheap drinks and friendly people
- Cons: none
Waste of Time

This place was REALLY small (like not even 1000 sq. feet), really dark, and really hot (a couple of fans on the ceiling, but don't think there was any a/c). It was really crowded, mostly with Emory students, and I got drenched by spilled beer at least twice in an hour. I found a free parking space pretty quickly in the El Azteca parking lot, but there was a $5 cover to get into El Bar. It's definitely better to go here as a pre-game or a place to end the night, but I wont be going back here again... overall it was the size of the place that turned me off.
- Pros: Parking, speedy bar service
- Cons: size, ambiance (lighting, temperature), cover
Great Drinks, Great Music
by chillinupnga at Citysearch
I frequent this place quite a bit. The drinks are great, the staff is friendly and the DJ's that spin are the sh@t...
I would recommend this place for starting the evening off.
- Pros: Great Drinks, Great Music
- Cons: The place is very small but I still like it...
Start or Finish, it just don't matter.

Surely not a spot to plop for the entire evening but definitely a chill "hole in the wall" that beats most holes. Great for a warm up drink before the running of the bars. Also, wonderful for cooling down from the full blown club. Not a great abundance of seats but the drinks come quick and music's quite nice. Not a pretentious place for all you cute folks to be seen, so beware. El bar is worth the try.
- Pros: Small, quaint
- Cons: Parking's a mess but i dont care
Distinctive underground lounge breaks the mold of the ordinary bump-and-grind.

In Short
Neophytes may be thrown by the offbeat location, clandestinely tucked behind a Mexican cantina in Poncey-Highlands, but locals in the know praise the unpretentious vibe of this chiefly word-of-mouth bar. The hazy lighting is just bright enough to convey the bar's sultriness while maintaining the underground feel. Space is at a premium but a rare feeling of intimacy prevails, certainly bolstered by the attractive and diverse clientele.
