Grant Park's hidden breakfast gem.

Lodged in close proximity, Stone Soup Kitchen is like if neighboring Ria’s Bluebird was reinvented on a retro movie set. Cozy two-person booths, a chalkboard scrawled with specials and a grab-n-go pantry make this time-warp breakfast/sandwich shop an instant classic. The menu cutely twists vegan fare (blueberry cornmeal flapjacks, Cuban black bean soup) in with the usual suspects (bacon and eggs, gourmet lunch sandwiches). Simple, but complex in the right places, it’s something both your blue-collar father and artsy vegan sister can enjoy equally. Cheese grits, churned with butter and cream are the breakfast must-try while the soups, (we like the daily specials) live up to the namesake. Swift, bubbly service and the hidden location make you feel like you are “discovering” it, no matter how many times you’ve already been.

The Best Kept Breakfast/Brunch Secret in Atlanta

Minutes after my first visit, I was kicking myself for not trying Stone Soup earlier. I've been eating breakfast there weekly now for the past two months and it's always the best part of the day: never a line; fast, friendly service; and excellent brunch fare. I've not been for lunch yet, but can't imagine it's anything but delicious. Wish I had time to grab The Gambler Sandwich right now!

• Cons: Not open for dinner.

great change of pace

read the reviews and decided to try something different. the food was good but the portions on the sandwiches were very small for the price, i had the chicken salad with the tomato soup, the soup was very good( go for the 8oz its very filling) but the sandwich had a dab of chicken salad in a large slices of wheat bread. if your close would be a good change of pace.

You know how sometimes when you eat even good tasting food out, sometimes you feel a little heavy afterwards... ?

well, after eating anything at stone soup, your heart and stomach feels happy and the beautiful staff and community of devoted customers make your day.

everything is prepared with love - as if it was made for you by your amazing southern mother.

absolutely my favorite restaurant in the city - I would never let anyone visit without eating there

... gigi's salad and the spicy cream of tomato soup are to die fore (as is everything else...)

Breakfast hideaway

Stumbled upon Stone Soup because we didn't want to go to our crowded usual. We were pleasantly surprised. It's not anything fancy, but that makes it all the more endearing. The wait staff is really friendly, the clientele is interesting. The selection is great, portion sizes are perfect and unlike other breakfast greasy spoons, this one ain't greasy. (even the bacon). The coffee's really good..if you like espresso, ask for their cappuccino - it won't disappoint. The juice selection is varied and natural. Definitely a hidden jewel.

More Like Stone Soup Bitchen!

Sad to reveal, but most mornings I plunge a paw into a box of Kashi High Fiber just to fish out sad handfuls of what I hope will dislodge the previous night's caloric journey to constipation. My bowels are like Siamese cats: obstinate, irritable, but also prone to run unpredictably. I rarely venture to the many sausage joints nearby. But as fate would have it, a need for Downy, scented candles (sandalwood) and Twizzlers (it's like a sickness with me) prompted me out of the duplex early last weekend. Cruising home, I noticed Stone Soup Kitchen, a quaint eatery with a name that piqued my tummy. I parked the Miata and decided to give a gander. There's a counter inside with an wide array of soups and drinks. I shimmied into a tiny booth with the finesse of a water balloon being pushed through a banister. What a sight, I was! The waiter, patient and lumberjack-ish, recommended a few items. He need only place himself on the menu and I'd never suffer through another Kashi sunrise again! Careful deliberation led to a breakfast sandwich consisting on gently scrambled eggs, cheese, Canadian bacon on a honey wheat English muffin. So, yes, I pretty much ordered an Egg McMuffin, the difference being that at Stone Soup I wasn't also funding an evil clown and his menagerie of burger obsessed misfits. People, that sandwich was a MARVEL! You'd never think that a mere egg concoction could achieve nirvana. No diminishing returns, each bite trumped the last. Tears of butter and cheese cascaded down my chin and pooled triumphantly upon my windbreaker. I also got a side order of Red Mule grits. The name comes from the use of actual (not mechanized) mules who churn the yellow goodness into submission. I know there are those who don't like the exploitation of animals, but I say KEEP THOSE ASSES AT WORK! Consider yourself warned: brawny hunks and dopey animals are conspiring in Grant Park, bowels be damned! See you there!

• Cons: Tight fit for the hefty set.

Great Soups Never Die, There Just Eaten!

We first discovered Stone Soup over twenty years ago, on Virginia Ave. in the Highlands. A little hippie hole-in-the wall. Always fresh, natural, and creative. All good things come to an end, and The Soup did. Now The Soup is back, and now in Grant Park. And it's more than worth the drive. The wonderful Potato soup still rules. And now the girls do breakfast also. It's worth the drive, and more than worth the money.

Awesome food, great staff

One of Atlanta's best kept secrets for breakfast and lunch. (we sort of hope it stays a semi secret so why am I writing this!?). This place is too good not to miss. Great breakfast - try the bagel platter with smoked salmon and all the fixin's. Lunch sandwiches and soups are always great (they usually have really good daily sandwiches and wraps). The staff is always pleasant even when super busy (some of them are a little inexperienced but they try really hard!). Coffee is awesome and they serve beer and wine! A cold Stella on the patio after a hard night is just what the doctor ordered. We live nearby and sort of treat Stone Soup as an extension of our kitchen and living room. What more could you ask for?

• Cons: No wi-fi, they close way too early

Fab Breakfast

I live close enough to walk and am so thankful for it! Stone Soup is the perfect remedy to any night on the town or long Saturday. My favorite is the Gringo (see the specials listed on the table, not the menu itself). The staff is always friendly and the food is always top-notch. Consistency is key in the morning, if you ask me. Anyway, give it a shot, its truly a Grant Park staple!

• Pros: Friendly waitstaff, outdoor patio, great grits!
• Cons: Can be a bit warm inside at times - use the patio!
