Good food, too long of a wait
by lizard2006 at Citysearch
I loved the decor but it was a little too monochrome. I splash of color here or there would have been nice. The service was okay but we waited over an hour for our meals. The ship cakes were not to be missed. THANK YOU for placing a bottle of water on the table, nice touch and I loved that no two were the same. I liked that the manager was attentive.
- Pros: Good Food and water on the table
- Cons: food took too long and I've heard this is a common issue here
Chic urban canteen in Midtown with bistro fare that won't break the budget.

The Scene
Located in the newly thriving, pedestrian-friendly "Biltmore district" across from Barnes & Noble, this spot, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, is populated by hipsters, neighborhood dwellers and office workers. Think mod interiors: a spare, groovy cafeteria with white, sage, mustard and gray accents--and a library room complete with books. Service is swift and the young staffers are brainy without being haughty.
The Food
Accomplished chef Joshua Perkins' inventive starters include the rice flour-coated veggie tempura frites, heirloom tomato and chevre, and grilled Georgia peaches with Serrano and Spanish blue cheese. All succeed with clean, fresh flavors but skip the soggy Belgian frites and steak skewers. The light pan-sauteed grouper with tomatoes and cucumber trumps the duck. Save room for decadent desserts made in-house: the mixed berry cobbler has a perfect, feathery crust and the rum-glazed pineapple upside down cake is not too sweet.

We had a party of six with reservations and were seated right away. The appetizers were excellent and the food was great. I had the veal and beyond a doubt the best I have ever had. I would recommend this place to anyone. Nice crowd also.
- Pros: Food was good and service was good.
Just be careful when you split bills....
by trendgal at Citysearch
I went there for lunch with a friend. My impression was... food was nice, ambient was nice, and waitress was nice... untill I found out that she did not know how to split our bill! Few days after the enjoyable lunch I checked on line banking, I saw the bill charged fully 2 meals while my friend was charged her portion. I called in the restaurant, the first manager did not seem to trust me, kept saying 'there's nothing they can do' since I did not have a copy of my reciept. Next day, I called back and another manager took care of it... obviously it is stated in the record. Hello??? Don't you guys know how to take care of BILLLSSS?!?!?
- Pros: Ambient, Food, Reasonable Price
- Cons: Parking
First Impressions are...

I dropped in for lunch and was pleased with the outcome. The staff was friendly and professional. I sat at the bar and had the Angus Cheeseburger. This was the best tasting burger I have had in a long time. ( I can't remember if its the best I have ever had as I can't remember them all.) I am going to go back for dinner and see if it holds up but I would say it is a great place to drop in and have lunch.

The Rules to Travel The Globe
by najah820 at Citysearch
My girlfriends and I went for the Tuesday $10 wine and tapas event. We were dissapointed that it was tapas sitting out at the bar with plastic plates to serve yourself. The bartender made it clear that you have to stay at the bar to participate, so we decided to be seated outside. Remember to park in the lot off of Spring and Abercrombie to get it validated by The Globe. Other lots don't count and park on the street at your own risk. Overall, the atmosphere was pretentious and starched. The clientele nor the staff were warm and friendly. One table never saw their server and left; the hostess nor the manager tried to salvage that. My friends made it worthwhile.
- Pros: Small plates, Cheap eats, Location
- Cons: Few vegatarian option, Atmosphere
Good for lunch...not customer oriented
by mimicatl at Citysearch
We love this place for lunch. Good sandwhiches. However, we went for dinner the other night and while the food was pretty good the service and value was less than steller. We pretty much had to ask the waiter for everything (water refills, a dessert meu, etc.) After ordering the $16 chicken dish, which was good, we get the bill and it says it was $17. I could care less about the difference of a dollar, but when we brought it to our waiter's attention, he said it was actually $17 and that the printed menu was wrong. He didn't bother to even offer to give it to us for menu stated price! Again, its not the dollar that upset me, but the fact that no one even offered to fix their own mistake! I mean what other price are we supposed to go off of other than the menu's?
- Pros: Ambience, Sandwhiches
- Cons: Customer service, parking
Better than I expected
by jzyman at Citysearch
The hostess seemed a bit overwhelmed but we were seated promptly. Our waitress was great. She knew her stuff and was attentive throughout the meal. I loved the space. It was modern and spacious. The menu had an assortment of interesting items and the prices were very reasonable. My dinner date had the heirloom tomato and chevre salad along with the roast organic chicken. I had the salad of Ashland baby greens and the steak frites. We had the berry cobbler and the pineapple cake. I was impressed with the quality of the ingredients and the preparation. The other thing I like about the food was it was simply prepared with no pretense. Simple dressings and accompaniments let the food's quality stand out. That says a lot about the chef's confidence in their methods. I will be returning.

Trendy but for how long?
by johnsmith1776 at Citysearch
The Globe is a nice restaurant with very good food. However, service-wise, it needs to pull its act together. My party was seated 45 minutes AFTER our reservation time, and while we were waiting for our table to become available, the bartender was extremely rude and uppity. The hosts were nice and apologetic, but they didn't seem to understand the meaning of the word "unacceptable" and made no attempt to explain the delay in our seating and never offered a complimetary cocktail or appetizer for the inconvenience. The food was very good, and our waitress was excellent. The decor is a bit played out - monochromatic, modernist, Saarinen chairs blah blah blah - nothing really ground-breaking or interesting. I don't think we'll be back.
- Pros: good food
- Cons: rude staff, tired decor
Worth trying once, probably won't go back

Their menu is full of delicious sounding entrees, but don't expect the food to live up to your expectations. It is a unique restaurant with a nice atmosphere, a bit loud unless you are seated in their "library." My sandwich tasted like something from Quiznos, but the novelty of the surroundings made up for it.
- Pros: Free parking in deck
