Food Is Not The Focus!

by ssilvera at Citysearch

After reading raving reviews from various sources, I high tailed it to Globe. Was not impressed. Went again for a business event. Still not impressed. Again, at the request of a friend for a get-together and still no big deal. The drinks weren't bad and were probably the factor that made each of my visits do-able. The food on the other hand was not up to par. I tried something different each time and nibbled on entrees of my company. In short, nothing I tasted was tasty and lacked the pazzazz factor that I expected after all the hype. It seems that a great restaurant rating is achieved my merely having a contemporary look, a dj, alcohol and alot of people. What about the food?

Not great

by westgalady at Citysearch

Visited The Globe on Sept. 29, 2007. Wait staff was excellent, and very friendly. My husband commented that our waitperson was probably the best one we've had this year, and we eat in nice restaurant often. However... The first two items we looked at for small plates were not available because they didn't have the ingredients to make them. The items we did get were the pasta with duck (dry, not much flavor), the crabcakes (OK, but not great), the tempura vegetables (really nice, but skip the sauce that comes with them), the pineapple cake (OK, but not as good as I make at home), cheese/figs/salad (very good). We went in not too terribly hungry, and came out with an $89.52 bill and not real pleased with what we had eaten. The bill included one glass of wine for me, and water for my husband, so alcohol didn't run up the bill - it was just very expensive for not great food. There are a lot of Atlanta restaurants I like better, such as Two Urban Licks, or my absolute favorite One Midtown. They offer small plates that are much better than we had at the Globe.

Salt lick

by gmyers at Citysearch

I went to the Globe for a late lunch and had a good experience at the bar... took the two starters and a house wine offer, of course, I also had dessert. It was quick, no one fussed at me, it was just what I wanted.

Since I had a good experience, I decided to go for dinner, bringing a friend of mine. Since I ranted and raved about the starter package, we both decided to do that... only to be told by our server that the only house wines the Globe offers are a "cabernet" or a "chardonnay" (distinctively, I had a house sauvignon blanc the first time I visited). Promptly "put in our place" we were served lukewarm, salt-licking-good starters... I had the duck leg (which I enjoyed the first time) and the lamb ribs. HORRIBLE. Burnt, crispy, salty none moving animal parts. My friend had the olives/ cheese and angus steak?. We were both mortified.

I can't say I'll be back anytime soon... ok, maybe one last time for lunch... to sit at the bar.

Why bother...

by csaxon13 at Citysearch

I've had dinner at The Globe once before and it was fair. We decided to go again because of its proximity to an event for which we had tickets, so we made reservations. Half an hour after our reservation time, we still were not seated and ended up eating at a sandwich shop in order to make it to our event on time. High pretense from the staff of this unremarkable spot. Don't waste your time--or judging by their attitude, they'd say not to waste theirs...

  • Pros: Nicely decorated.
  • Cons: Pretentious host. People having "relations" in bathroom stall.

There are better restaurants

by fdoamerica at Citysearch

I read about "The Globe" in the Sky magazine on Delta. The magazine raved about the about the roasted chicken in their article "5 FAB Places for Great Chicken" and so I went. I was seriously disappointed. The chicken was not as good as I have had at Boston Chicken and about 5 times as expensive. I paid $24 for a small portion of chicken, with no potatoes, no salad (nada) and a small glass of wine. Save your time and money there are better restaurants out there and be skeptical about restaurants that the Sky Magazine recommends.

Disappointing...save your money...

by meyerch at Citysearch

We were seated promptly, and the server was knowledgeable and friendly. We enjoyed perusing the menu, and ordered 2 glasses of wine, 2 appetizers, 1 soup, and 2 entrees. The bookshelves were fun too. The appetizers and soup were okay, but not memorable. The wine was mediocre. His oysters were enjoyable in the white wine sauce, but my steak was overpowered by the basil pesto and was overdone for medium. We ordered dessert and espresso after the meal. The creme caramel had little flavor, and the chocolate cake was a box recipe in cupcake form with chocolate syrup. Espresso cups are tiny, but this one was barely half full! The final bill--$96 including tip! If you want expensive, bland food and trendy decor, this is the place for you. Come to Globe to feel trendy while you talk and sip a mixed drink, then go somewhere else to eat.

Terrible Place Unless You Like Attitude

by rfair62 at Citysearch

The restaurant takes reservations, but doesn't honor them. They were 45 minutes late seating us, were generally rude, and seem to have little knowledge of how to run a restaurant.

  • Pros: food
  • Cons: attitude of staff, not seated promptly, terrible host

Cool place to get a drink but....

by juiceman8 at Citysearch

Cool bar scene and good small dishes, but I wouldn't go for the entrees. Three scallops for $18 and a small wedge of grouper for $19. (my friends needed to get more to eat after we left) Service was slow but courtious. Grab a drink, appetizer, or sandwich and enjoy in a cool environment. Don't make it a dinner destination.

  • Pros: scene, drinks
  • Cons: value, service
