Jazz, art and cocktails collide every 3rd Friday at the High
by Jonathan Baker
In Short
Every third Friday of the month, (except December) the High Museum lures the cultured crowd to its space with live music, cocktails and rotating art exhibits. A local jazz ensemble plays sets from the central atrium and the wondrous notes carry to the top levels of the museum. Conversation is easily sparked among the diverse mix of attendees ranging from young professionals to experienced art collectors who come to be inspired. General admission is $18 and includes access to the entire museum.

This is one of the best events in Atlanta to go on a date, or to meet someone new. There is great music, good food and drink, and lots of great people. Look, listen, and mingle. Walk around and see the great exhibits. Have some great conversation. Very romantic. Hint: Go ahead and join the Museum as a member so you can get in free. It's worth the price and you will want to come back every month.
- Pros: Where Atlanta's sophisticated cultured people hang out once a month.
- Cons: Sometimes it can get loud from people talking and it's hard to hear the music.
We had a blast at Friday Jazz at the High!

I'm new to Atlanta and found out about Friday Jazz from a co-worker. She told me to expect to hear some great jazz music in the most beautiful space on Peachtree - The High Museum of Art. I was blown away when we got there! Beautiful people were everwhere and the jazz was amazing. I had a delicious Jazz Martini and even tried sketching a live model in one of the upstairs galleries. Finding a seat was a challenge but we just opted to stroll the galleries and take in the artwork. For $15 this is a great way to kick off your weekend and I highly recommend it!
- Pros: Live Jazz Music, Art & Sketching in galleries
- Cons: Little seating
Jazz meets art for a sophisticated evening of mingling.

Noise is High = Jazz volume is low

Great to see the art and folks. That is what it is for... Jazz not so sure. You can't hear the music for all the idle chatter. The more people the louder they talk to speak over others so the Jazz gets drown. Sad to say that they can not spend more on large speakers to over power the talking but the Jazz is washed out by the noise polution.
If you are starving for Jazz just go early and stand right at the band to hear them.
- Pros: Art, Atmospher, Unique Place
- Cons: Noise Polution, Crowded, Acoustics
