These cupcakes take you back to your happy place! I live in Florida and travel to Atlanta often. It has become a ritual at the beginning and end of the trip to stock up on Belly Baked goods. Being a cupcake connoisseur, I have of course tried all of the other Atlanta cupcake spots. The only place in Atlanta for cupckaes is Belly!!! These tasty cakes take you back to your childhood when mom's and grandmothers didn't always use a box mix but actually created from scratch. They are oversized, as a cupcake should be, and the icing- oh the icing melts in your mouth, and the cake -- the cake is exquisite in flavor and texture. Treat yourself and you will see for yourself-- they are the best. The bagels -- well the bagels are the best in South. Have lived in NYC and have never had a Bagel as good outside of NYC.
Pros: Awesome atmosphere
Cons: none

I have a mixed review for Belly, having lived across the street from the would-be general store since its inception. For breakfast, Belly is simply wonderful, if limited. The bagel sandwiches (I am partial to the bacon, egg and cheese on a toasted sesame), are fabulous, and the cheese grits are some of the best that can be found in Atlanta (they use stone ground, automatically making them creamier and more textural than Aunt Jemima). Also great are the egg and cheese tortillas with mole. The coffee is excellent, and they squeeze the oj fresh to order. For lunch, the quality just doesn't seem to be consistently there. The three cheese panini is tasty, but way overpriced. The chicken salad sandwich is probably the best overall bet. And the cupcakes, over which they make such a fuss, are truly terrible - dry and crumbly with sour icing. Really, all the deserts are sub-par, and cannot in good conscience be recommended. So, if you find yourself in the Highlands in the morning, give them a shot, but don't stick around for lunch.
Pros: Great breakfast
Cons: Poor lunch and baked goods

Belly has REALLY gone down hill. For what they charge, you would think the food and service would be MUCH better. I went today - got a soup and pasta salad -- soup (mushroom and potato - why i ordered that, i don't know) was filled only half way in container and was bland. the pasta salad was given to me in a smaller container than the one i ordered and was so so...All of this was about $13! For a soup, salad and drink to go?? Normally, I really wouldn't mind paying this if the food and service was worth it. The gentleman behind the counter was slow in every sense of the word and could barely even work the cash register! I could understand if the guy was a new hire -- but poor counter service (and bland food!) has pretty much become the standard at Belly...
Pros: lots of gourmet items, plenty of seating
Cons: poor service, food is Inconsistent, prices

This is a fun little place, with a nostalgic feel. The food is good and prices aren't too bad. However, it would be a lot nicer if they sold a few more packaged foods to give it more of a general store feel. Perhaps they could include some hard to find or regional specialties.

Besides looking oh-so-cute, Belly has great sandwiches, bagels and sweets. There's not much seating, but there are usually spots at the counter. The cupcakes are a treat! Plus it's fun to browse and look at the European chocolates and other fun gift items.
