The wait
by deelappy at Citysearch
I as very excited to go eat there. When we arrived at 1:30p, the hostess told us it was 15 min wait. Cool! 35 mins. later, there were 10 empty tables. We asked her what the deal was. She said there was something wrong iin the kitchen. Another guy ran up to her and ran back. Kitchen Fire? Dropped the food? Five other groups walked out after being there as long as we were. I asked the hostess, how long? She said at least another hour plus 15 mins like she told us. We walked out....I was pissed. They could have at least seated the people who have been waiting forever. They had several tables open wide. Give people some drinks while they waited.
- Pros: parking
- Cons: seat people
GLADYS & RON - JUST SAY NO!!
by dedesoa at Citysearch
On Saturday 02/07/2009, My 2 daughers, myself and granddaughter (1 year) took a trip to Atlanta for the first time. We ALL had to try Gladys Knight Chicken and Waffles. WHAT A MISTAKE. It was by far, the WORST part of the trip. I was so so so disappointed. THIS IS NOT SOUL FOOD. We waited an hour before asking if our name was coming up, to find out we had been CROSSED OFF the wait list. We were then seated. It was a rather SPECIAL experience, i.e., some of the wait staff were very very special (YELLOW BUS SPECIAL). We were excited about the experience, wanted to get a feel for everything on the menu. BIG MISTAKE. The MIDNIGHT TRAIN had missed a couple of stops (and was the only item on the menu that came with a waffle, no seasoning on the chicken, and my son who does not know how to cook could have made a better waffle. The other review was so correct, DRIED OUT AND BURNT MACARONI & CHEESE, The GREENS were not thoroughly cooked, and tasted like leaves (no flavor), the YAMS were also TASTELESS, NOT SWEET, NOT THOROUGHLY COOKED -- Gerber baby food tastes better. I thought I was ordering mashed potatoes and gravy (I know that's what I said), but I got this potatoe casserole that was just NASTY -- and too hot (spicey). I ordered CHILDS CHICKEN BASKET W FRIES for the baby. The fries were so HOT w PEPPER the baby started choking, and so did I. SWEET POTATOE CHEESE CAKE was just NASTY, not sweet, bland -- looked pretty though. BOTTOM LINE: The price was too high, the portions were too small. This is just a gimmick. I can't tell you not to go, because it is a "tourist" attraction, but apparently "Gladys-N-dem don't expect return business." This is a ONE-SHOT-WONDER. I been and I will not be back again......
- Pros: JUST SAY NO
- Cons: PARKING says $3, but charged $10 at night, BAD FOOD, HIGH PRICES
NOT FOR ME!

THE ATMOSPHERE WAS NICE AND WE WERE SEATED QUICKLY. I ORDERED THE FRIED CHICKEN, GREENS, AND MAC AND CHEESE. WHEN I GOT MY FOOD I WAS THINKING I AM GOING TO TEAR THIS UP!!! I TRIED THE CHICKEN I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED! I COULD HAVE DONE BETTER THAN THAT! THE CHICKEN NEEDED SOME SEASONING SALT OR SOMETHING ADDED TO IT. THE MAC AND CHEESE WAS NOT GOOD EITHER. THE GREENS WERE FAIR. I AM A PERSON WHO KNOW MY SOUL FOOD BEING A DOWN SOUTH GIRL WHO KNOW HOW TO COOK! THIS DID NOT DO IT FOR ME. MAYBE I NEED TO TRY THE OTHER ONE.
- Pros: SEATED QUICKLY
- Cons: FOOD WAS NOT GOOD!
Wonderful Service & Tasty Food

My husband and I have gone to the Lithonia, GA and Largo, MD location and thoroughly enjoyed both! We expected a long wait at the Lithonia location and were pleasantly surprised to be seated right away. The seating is comfortable, with enough elbow room to enjoy your meal. The waitress was pleasant and prompt and able to recommend menu items, her personality was wonderful!!! My parents were with us, visiting from NY and they LOVED the food!!!! None of us had any complaints!!! Clean restrooms, absolutely wonderful proportions of food (you get more than your money's worth), nice atmosphere, great staff....No complaints for the money you pay!!!!! Compared to other reviews of Justin's and Cafe Dupri, go to this restaurant, you definitely won't regret it!!!!!!!!
Pros: everything... PLUS: Uptown drink (combo of lemonade and iced tea)
Cons: you're stuffed from a wonderful meal!!!!!!!

We visited the lithonia location and the food was awesome, the southern fried chicken, the smothered chicken, the waffles, the greens, the mac & cheese I could go on and on. The friendly staff and the restaurant was very clean I own a cleaning company and I pay attention to cleanliness. I highly recommend this location.
- Pros: Professional staff, get food nice and hot
- Cons: for me none
Crazy on the Weekends

Because this spot draws a lot of tourist attention, it's hard to get in there without at least a 15-minute wait. The food, service and ambiance are worth it though. I enjoyed being catered-to by the waitresses and my food came piping hot and flavorful, despite claims of a problem in the kitchen. Overall, this is a good place to dine if you have time to chill, relax and patiently receive the goodness.
Great Staff Service

I had the opportunity to visit Gladys Knight/Ron Winans Chicken and Waffles restaurant this past weekend, and it was an experience. We were visiting Atlanta and went to the restaurant on Sunday morning just after morning service and although there was a crowd, the staff was friendly. We were told of an issue with the restaurant which was beyond the control of the staff, but I have to compliment them because they kept their composure and we were seated in 20 minutes. Because we chose to eat on the patio we had the good fortune of having two young ladies as our servers. These young women took very good care of our needs. They ensured we had plenty to drink, and they were constantly checking on our needs as we dined. I would recommend this restaurant to others as I already have. Many times things happen for a reason... beyond our control, during these times we learn to enjoy/appreciate the quiet times and be thankful that we are able to go to a restaurant... many can't.

In Short
Down-home dishes populate the menu at this bustling all day and night diner, a spin-off of the original Peachtree location. Expect chicken omelets, salmon croquettes and fried fish and grits anytime. Additional soulful choices include gravy-smothered chicken, brown sugar chicken and sassy barbecue turkey wings. Wrap things up with sweet potato cheesecake or peach cobbler.
