Our Favorite Restaurant
by 123higgins at Citysearch
What a great find this little bakery has been!!! This bakery is what it was like when your family woke you up on the weekends to go to the neighborhood bakery where the people you met actually made the food instead of thawing it out. Everything is homemade you can see it throught he window!!! I have purchased cakes and pastries from the bakery for Thanksgiving and Christmas and it is sure to be a tradition for our family. The best part is coming to pick up your pastry orders, you just have to stop in and have a stack of those Sweet Potato Pancake - yum!!!!
- Pros: Food, Pastries, People
- Cons: crowded, busy, parking
What a Relief!

This restaurant is as good as it gets. I have been a resident of the metro area for the last 14 years and have gone to every one of the "Hot Spot" brunches. This place Exceeds in every area, the music fun, the service was just right, the coffee was the best cup I've had in months and my crabcakes benedict was superb. My friends had other dishes and were equally impressed. The bill was so little I bought the whole round and I'm going back this week to try the lunch menu. Some of the eateries that have been around awhile should stop in and try to remeber what quality is about. I almost forgot to mention... the carrot cake we shared for dessrt was the best I have ever had. The only draw back was waiting to sit... We had a large party and the place was packed
- Pros: crabcakes, carrot cake, coffee
- Cons: long wait, bathroom is ugly, close at 4
LOVE this little neighborhood nosh

Great little neighborhood cafe. The food is plentiful and tasty, and the baked goods are to-die-for (I could bathe in that buttercream frosting). The wait staff is friendly and attentative, if occasionally scattered. Yes, you may have a bit of a wait on the weekend, but that's cause everyone else loves it too. It's worth the wait.
Must tries: Highland Breakfast, Divine coconut cake, Grilled cheese & BBQ sandwiches!
- Pros: Coffee, Service, Great patio
Sunny Old Fourth Ward bakery grinds its own wheat and brings organic bread to the neighborhood.

In Short
Pillowy, whole-grain breads star at this red-brick bakery and cafe that offers views of Freedom Parkway and downtown Atlanta. The bread, baked from Montana-grown, chemical-free wheat and ground onsite in a wooden mill, serves as a foundation for simple sandwiches--shredded barbecue pork, herb-roasted turkey or chilled grilled vegetable. Downtown business folk, carb-starved Midtowners and Inman Park families come for the cream-cheese frosted cinnamon buns, muffins, cookies and bagels, which are all baked daily.
Terrible experience

I have never felt the need to review a (bad) restaurant until now. This is certainly the worst experience I have ever had. The food was below average (atctually I did not get to really eat!) The breads were barely edible.
But the worst of it all was the SERVICE. Our coffees were cold and bitter. We were not given sugar for 15 mins after we got the coffee. Utensils were not given for the longest time. I sent back an order (terrible terrible, French Toast) literally untouched and still saw it in included in the final bill. I had to ASK to have it removed! The grilled cheese did not have the veggies I asked or ...just plain rubbery cheese. And the sausage... thin slices, definately frozen for months and heated.
This place needs to hire help with atleast average intelligence.
- Cons: bad service, below average food
So far from right!

This place needs some real help immediately. Its so very sad in this day and age to see a place thats just sorely misconceived from the start. Either run by overly zealous inexperienced restaurateurs, or just fools that were never taught, The Highland bakery is a classic example of what not to do with a grass roots hospitality concept. The bread?? My lord, someone ask the owners to eat some real bread. Even Whole foods bread is better and thats not saying much. The bagels? golley, listen folks,.. a bagel is boiled and baked not piped from a pastry bag. And whats with the Cyclops sized egg sandwiches?? ever heard of user friendly? ever heard of seasoning your food? My god,..the place is sooo entirely flawed, i cannot imagine what a second time patron looks like. Save your money and drive to pastries a go go in Decatur. !
- Pros: cute exterior, view of bakery facill
- Cons: all but the look

They have the freshest most wholesome baked goods I've tried in Atlanta. The cranberry walnut bread is excellent, and the everything breakfast sandwiches keep me happy all morning. Great place, Great food and a Great value. Placing advance or special orders is easy. Nutritious and delicious, the daily specials add variety.
- Pros: inexpensive, relaxed atmosphere, casual
