I heart UBF!

by blondie00l at Citysearch

I love Urban Body Fitness. I have been a member for close to two years. I am getting married in a month and when my future husband and I were deciding where to live, the hardest part about thinking about going somewhere other than the Highlands area was not being able to work out there anymore. Thankfully, we found a place in the Highlands and I will be able to keep my gym and my trainer! I have been an "on again, off again" exerciser for a long time, and UBF is the first place I've found and stuck with. I've gotten to know so many people at the gym, it's sort of an accountability thing. People notice when you're not there. I train with Michael Hobson, who is so positive and has become such a good friend, but all of their trainers are excellent. I also enjoy taking the kickboxing classes, bootcamp classes and the step/sculpt classes (when I can actually get home in time... they fill up quickly). The gym certainly isn't perfect, but as long as I'm in this area of Atlanta, I wouldn't go anywhere else.

  • Pros: staff and trainers, classes, location, morale
  • Cons: parking can be tight, i wish some of the classes could be bigger

Great gym!

by paulmillerparis at Citysearch

Yesterday the power went out at my office and I was able to leave and check out Urban body since my co-workers go there. One of the managers, Stephanie, showed me around and gave me details about joining. They will waive the sign up fee and you can also get classes next door at the Studio! I don't take Pilates or yoga but my girlfriend does. Definitely great staff and a relaxed environment!

  • Pros: Example: best croissants in town
  • Cons: What are the drawbacks?

Everything you need in a gym

by spiffsteph at Citysearch

When I go to a gym, I'm looking for two things, appropriate, quality equipment, and a clean, inviting environment. Urban Body provides both. This is a neighborhood gym, not a massive, flashy gym. If you need all the bells and whistles, seek elsewhere. The staff has always been up to par ? if you have a question, they can answer it, otherwise, they?ll leave you alone. Urban Body was immensely crowded, just like every other gym, at the beginning of this year, but now that the New Years Resolution crowd is starting to dissipate, things are thinning out. Urban Body is a tad overpriced, in my opinion. There is a ?boot camp? course in which the entire class jogs around the building. I am not sure why this is necessary but it is incredibly annoying ? the gym is not big enough for 15 people to do walking lunges or sprints. All in all, the good outweighs the bad, and I would highly recommend this gym to those looking for a local place to join..

  • Pros: parking, sometimes crowded, class interference
  • Cons: good equipment, variety of equipment, cleanliness

You can do much better elsewhere

by charlesinchargefor at Citysearch

For a gym that charges about $500 a year for a membership, UBF is sorely lacking in amenites - basically offering a few racks of weights, a few wellworn machines, the usual handful of tired classes , limited hours, no steam/sauna, etc. It's basically a two story concrete space with weights upstairs and an overcrowded cardio space and teeny class studio space downstairs. . And customer service is the WORST, the female manager acts like she's too good to work at a gym. And forget about finding desk people at night - they're off doing side work like cleaning the place, Go elsewhere - you can do so much better for the $$$.

  • Cons: not very big, old building, staff to busy with sidework,

Still in the dark ages

by runninggalishere at Citysearch

I can't believe the male dominated attitude that exists at this gym! If you are a guy you get all kinds of attention but for the female customers you can forget it. Totally sexist.

Not worth it

by rexalot at Citysearch

Joined for one month and already turned in my cancellation. The gym is in an older building that is constantly being repaired. Seems everyday something is blocked off and unusable because it's broken or leaking. I wanted to speak to a manager about my billing on the weekend and there are no managers on the weekends! Must be nice to have that job. Yes, I was told I could email but what happened to one on one customer service. The parking is a DISASTER. Just sorry I joined in the first place.

Has Gone Downhill

by kokoATL at Citysearch

I have been a member of Urban Body Fitness for 3.5 years now. In the past year, I have grown to hate this place and am thinking of leaving. The owners do not care about the clients. The parking lot is horrible. It's hardly paved. In the evenings, you can barely find a park. We've had to leave and miss our work out because there was no place to park. They are out of towels constantly. Equipment is broken a lot. Most people who go there are not courteous to everyone around them. They'll stand around and have conversations while on machines...making the rest of us wait. The boot camp class is constantly running through all the walkways and stairway in the gym causing a truly hazardous situation for us all. There just isn't enough space for that! Every time I go there I get severely angry. The gym is supposed to be a place I go to relieve stress, not gain stress.

  • Pros: it's not a national chain
  • Cons: parking, crowd, poor management, rude members

good equipment, average staff

by randyrandy at Citysearch

The equipment has been upgraded in the cardio room, which is a big plus! On the downside, the TV's are too small and not positioned well. There is often a wait for the machines at peak times. I like how the gym is divided into area's for what you are targeting. A negative is some of the staff, especially the short girl that never stops talking about nothing.

  • Pros: nice selection of equipment, great trainers
  • Cons: average staff, lack of parking

sub par gym, not clean on weekends

by RmaggieR at Citysearch

I only have time to workout on the weekends and I can say that I don't find urban body very clean, as some other post said. The woman's locker room is not well taken care of and forget about finding a manager on the weekends. How can a place operate without anyone in charge? The staff are okay but have been much better in the past. One Friday evening I came in to find the employee eating her dinner at the counter. Now, I know everyone needs to eat but there were two employees working - couldn't she take a break? This gym charges about $20 more a month than others and that is not worth a clean towel every now and then.

  • Pros: empty in the evening and on weekend nights
  • Cons: often dirty, no manager on weekends, problems with billing - a lot!

Cleanest gym around

by work2travel at Citysearch

I have tried Urban Body Fitness. I liked it. It is very clean and nobody else has towel service (I hate taking my own sweaty smelly towels home).

Parking seems to be the big complaint on here. Yes, they need more parking. I was told by Brad (or maybe it was Rad) who is one of the owners, that they are waiting on permission from the City to expand the parking behind the buildings to the next street. I looked...that is a LOT of extra space. He said his plan is to have it ready by the end of February. Guess you can't rush the City.

I also took a tour of the building next door where they do the Yoga and Pilates. I have done both in the past. Definitely a more modern building. Kinda quiet and peaceful.

smelly gym, anteseptic staff

by hotchildinthecityatl at Citysearch

While I didn't join a gym for personality it has to have some role especially if you go everyday. The staff I've encountered are not attentive and usually not around or busy talking amoung themselves. The gym is too packed after 5 pm and I agree with other posts - the parking is not worth the trouble. The recently added space isn't even paved and has huge ruts when it rains.
