Great Food, Casual and Affordable
by melissa blight at Citysearch
I took my Mom to the Merchandise Mart and Durango's
Restaurant was right next door. My Mom had the strawberry field salad and I had the half rack of ribs.
We each had a glass of wine. We were tired from our
day but staff was very friendly and came back to make
sure we were o.k. with everything. Because the
parking was limited, we park at Lenox and rode in
on the Marta. The Marta station is right below the
restaurant. My Mom loved the restaurant and it
was the perfect end to a great day!
- Pros: Very Relaxed and Fun Place!
- Cons: Limited to Parking Decks (but safe)
Durango Steak House: Bad Lunch Experience

Durango Steak House: Bad Lunch Experience
On Friday July 31, 2009, five of us went to lunch at Durango Steak House to take a friend out for her last day and the service was “HORRIBLE”. We arrived at 12:20pm, our food did not arrive until 1:00pm, and then our entrees were served cold. The waitress sent the manager to our table and he sampled a fry right off my friend’s plate checking whether or not it was cold. How dare he pick up a fry from a customer’s plate? (Strike 1) My friend question his weird behavior for a manager and the tone was unacceptable. (Strike 2)The manager returned with hot fries and a new entrée for a friend who had a Mexican entrée. I assume he felt because we had burgers/chicken sandwiches there was no need to reheat those….. we let that slide because we were hunger and time was ticking….Due to the semi-warm food; I didn’t even eat half of my sandwich.
Once the bill arrived, we ask could we be compensated for our inconvenience and bad customer service. We DID NOT expect free meals but at least free drinks or 5% off the bill or something. The manager flipped and said in so many words said “NO” and you don’t have to come back. (Strike 3) All I can say is WOW! Next, the waitress returned back to our table upset because he confronted her and asked her why was she entertaining the ideal that we were right. After we paid for our meals, extremely upset…we were exiting the restaurant and of course …here is the GENERAL MANAGER with this smirk on his face. Politely, I asked him was he okay because I was not happy with the customer service at all…..Once again …he start shouting/ranting (weird) ….
All I can say, PLEASE DO NOT GO TO DURANGO’S STEAKHOUSE. The service was horrible. If you have time to Google… Durango ..please read there reviews….and see whether or not I am lying….
This will not go unnoticed and calls have been made to the investors/corporate office……I will keep you posted on our outcome.

When seated, there was a pool of water (at least I think it was water) on the chair. All that was offered was a towel on the chair. I left since they made me feel like it was my fault. Never tried the food, probably never will
- Pros: don't know
- Cons: poor service
Don't believe the hype

Skip this place. I didn't think I was that picky when it came to food. My appetizer had only 9 of the 10 advertised shrimp. The kitchen forgot one of my sides with my meal. Seems like there's small omissions here and there, but for the money, it should be better. Pulled pork was sweet and sour (odd for pulled pork-it didn't taste good). The ribs were dry and flavorless. My friend had steak and it was good. Aside from the steak and shrimp appetizer the rest of the food was disappointing (especially since some if it I didn't receive). Just so you know, this is the first review I'm ever writing. I'm only on here because of my sheer disappointment in dinner. I kindly told the waiter and he didn't seem to care. Empty restaurant and it still took him a while to bring the check. This place isn't real close to anything happening at night.
Disgusting!

My glass and my plate were dirty.
My steak had no flavor and it was a rip off at $20.
The mashed potatos were good, however.
This place must thrive on unsuspecting tourists.
I recommend you anywhere but here!!
- Pros: 80's music
- Cons: No hot waitresses
Um...no.

Last night, because CC wanted steak, we ended up at Durango's steakhouse (her call). We had the sampler platter, salads and two cuts of meat and baked potatoes. Well that's the good part of it. We've eaten at a lot of places in Atlanta, from some of the top restaurants to greasy spoons, and well, I know good and this wasn't it. The sampler was probably the best part of the meal, with the chicken taquitos and badly done chicken fingers. The salads were...there. The steaks, which were supposed to be their best cuts (prime rib for her, cowboy cut for me) were less than, well, they were there, and not very good for the price. The space is small, crowded and loud. And oddly designed, as I still don't get how the patio works. If you're looking for a quality steak house, this would not be it. It's really more a tourist - trapped in downtown- not really sure what else is out there - well let's eat here because someplace else is too croweded - kind of place. And it's not really too good at that either.
- Pros: It's there
- Cons: It's there
Surprisingly bad food

I just ate here (Durango steak house on Peachtree St) for the first time this afternoon. I was born in Atlanta, I live a couple of miles from Peachtree Street and I've eaten steak all over the metro area for many years. I am surprised at how bad the food was here, especially for the price and location. I ordered the Ribeye, it was expensive but that's about it. It had the 'gamey' taste that only the lower grade steaks have (select grade, they should be serving prime). The potato was tiny, about three bites worth and undercooked. It was late afternoon on a weekday so I was just about the only person in there so everything should have been top notch (although the service was fine). All in all, the worst steak house I've ever been to relative to price. It's possible I just got a bad steak that got mixed in with the others but combined with serving a three-bite undercooked potato... unusual. It may have been a bad day so I'll try it once more and update this post accordingly.
- Pros: Good Service
- Cons: Bad Food
DISAPPOINTED

We had the NY strip and full slab of ribs. The steak was medium rare, but that was the only thing right about it. It tasted like it had been boiled, no flavor. There was excessive amount of fat on the steak. The ribs were no better. It was burnt with some meat as hard as the bone. No extra sauce. Again, a lot of excess fat on the ribs, which is pretty hard to do. As a point of reference, we love Damon's ribs and Stoney River steaks. The wait staff was helpful, but we will NEVER go back.
- Pros: location
- Cons: food
The aroma of oak wood filled the air!

This is wonderful family steakhouse. I had the steak salad with house dressing. It was awesome. Fresh greens and an incredible steak slices cooked to perfection.
- Pros: affordable, quality food
