Bad tipping policy
by densan at Citysearch
My family has five members and we have enjoyed going to James Joyce Pub since it opened years ago. We typically go 1-2 times a month. Tonight we had a bad experience. The meal was good but when I got the bill I thought it was high. I noticed that the waitress added an 18% tip to the bill. Since our family has five people, she told me the gratuity was added automatically and it is listed on the menu (but never invoked previously). I was mad because I have never had this automatic surcharge added to my bill, even when I have dined with extra people. I will not be going back to James Joyce until this policy is rescinded.
- Pros: Local pub convenient for food and drinks
- Cons: Tipping policy bad. Food can be uneven.
Excellent place

We had our company Christmas party here and it was great. I've seen the negative reviews on service and all I can say is they were from 2 yrs ago. The waitress we had was outstanding. 40+ folks with 15-20 seperate checks and she kept track of everything to a tee! Food was great, drinks were great. Were planning on coming back again this year.
- Pros: good service and food
- Cons: none really
One of the best Pubs to hang out at.
by emlewis at Citysearch
I like the vibes of this place, there was a time that my friend and I went to this place maybe 4 times in one week, we love it. The servers are the best, they remember your face/names, you are not rushed to leave.
- Pros: Excellent Servers, free parking, good food
- Cons: As a woman - well, we need more bathroom space
Best pub ever!

- Pros: cozy, good menu
Are you Serious!

I went to this pub twice once for my birthday in June, and it seemed to be minimalistic and over priced. I felt like for the $ I spent, I could have had a better time, food, and stronger drinks.
Today, I went with a co-worker. soon as we walked in we a little uncomfortable, when a loud voice from one of the boths yells "seat urself". We sat at the bar. The bartender had a bucnh of friends at the end of the bar along with half the wait staff that was consistantly getting drinks as they sat and laughed loudly. My friend and I, wondered after five minutes (which can seem longer when you need a drink) when someone would acknowledge us for Our drinks. Finally, we get a drink order and a small appetizer. As we watched the bartender (antisocial with "paying customers") pour our drinks, we noticed the bartender's finger in the drink as he poured the cocktails. We were groosed out! Once the food came it was cold. Plus, how to you F-up nachos? I mean really?! After my friend and I pay the tab, we leave a minimal tip. we adjourn in the parking lot. The bartender finds us and confronts us about the tip! I responded by asking him if he wanted more $. We also discussed out feeling about his service, and how a "dirty drink" doesn't mean to put your fingers in it. I thought it was quite rude to confront anyone about a tip!, especially two women in the parking lot!!!!!! Can you say SPRAY MACE!!! NEVER EAT OR DRINK HERE!!!!!! BEWARE OF THE DIRTY FINGER! oh, and by the way, he said he was a manger! So whats the criteria for the kitchen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Definitely, take a round of antibiotics after this experience!
- Pros: none
- Cons: BEWARE OF THE DIRTY FINGERED P.
Its not as authentic as I had hoped
by Jess1984 at Citysearch
I first came to this pub about 2 years ago... I enjoyed the fact that they had a great ambience... a fireplace, and a dark wood dining room/bar... the atmosphere is cozy but the food, I believe could be a bit more authentic for the cost of the meals. You can't leave without spending at least 30-$40 and sometimes you feel like you're being ignored.
If you go and want a hearty meal, try the bangers and mash... or the shepards pie.
- Pros: nice ambience....
- Cons: slow service...
Bad bad and bad!
by callmespitfire at Citysearch
This place is horrible... it's a waste of time! Don't bother. There's nothing Irish about this stupid place. Waitstaff is slow and extremely unprofessional. The bartender was more concerned about personal conversations. I had been there before and got their daily special and it was good. They must have new management or something because it is very unorganized, they don't care about the way they treat customers and the food was awful. Seriously, awful. And beer is expensive.... there's no reason to go here... there's plenty of other restaurants in the area - try Wahoo or something.
- Pros: Nothing
- Cons: Everything
Great Food, Terrible Service
by severian at Citysearch
We live in Stone Mountain, and we've visited James Joyce at least once every four months or so for the fish & chips.
The positives: Their menu is pretty good, and we've never had a problem with the food.
The negatives: Their service is very touch-and-go. More likely than not, any time between Friday and Sunday, the service will be awful. I can attest that some of the staff are rude.
I've seen them be rude to other customers who had an actual elderly Irish gentleman with them. This was a manager, no less, who refused to turn the music from the jukebox down. I'm not old. The music WAS too loud. You had to shout across the table to be heard. I wouldn't call that an Irish tavern atmosphere.
We would definitely go a lot more often if they shaped up their management and staff issues.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Service, attitude
Amazing

Bartenders and waitstaff are awesome; I have never had a bad experience since I started going there about 3 years ago. People who I have seen have issues there have been rude themselves. If you're nice, the staff is nice. It's not difficult.
- Pros: Friendly bartenders and waitstaff, great atmosphere
- Cons: Kind of expensive for a pub
No service, rude wait staff
by tmratl at Citysearch
Atrocious service. I can't comment on anything else because we couldn't get anyone to serve us.
The restaurant was half-empty around 7:00 pm last Saturday, but the wait staff walked by our table several times in 10 minutes without stopping. We finally flagged down a waitress and asked if we could get some service. She said "everyone's busy preparing for a large party that's coming in, you'll just have to be patient." We stopped a second waitress and we were told "everyone's stressing out over a big party that' s coming in, someone will get to you eventually." We asked for the manager and were told they couldn't find him. We finally found the manager and he had the same story -- big party to set up for, everyone's busy, be patient and someone will get around to you. No apologies, no offer to find us a waiter or waitress. Needless to say, we walked out and won't be back.
- Pros: None
- Cons: No service
