Great local restaurant
by sherriatl at Citysearch
Wow. I watched Kevin on Top Chef and waited a month for this reservation... and I wasn't disappointed! We ordered the five-course tasting menu - there wasn't a single thing I would have changed or enhanced. It was simply fantastic. Even our waiter, Greg, was excellent. A memorable meal at a memorable restaurant. I will definitely be coming back to this restaurant!
- Pros: food, ambiance
- Cons: none
THE best!
by CarlM at Citysearch
'Discovered' Woodfire about 9 months ago and we just keep going back. Exceptional service but what really makes it stand out is the incredible food. The flavors mix beautifully. We have always had an A+ dining experience.
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: Haven't found one yet
Huge Prices, Tiny Portions
by SQL11 at Citysearch
I don't mind small portions if the prices are reasonable but this place is ridiculous. $14 for ONE medium sized, average quality scallop!!! Are you kidding me? And $6 for a small bowl of "sunchokes" (a fancy name for what best I could tell were potatoes). My friend and I spent $60 each and left hungry. No wonder the place was empty on a Friday night!
- Pros: Nice bartender
- Cons: Poor value, so-so food quality
Perfect Dinner
by sa071 at Citysearch
A charming, cozy perfect place for a date or business dinner. Just right for big groups too. Great bar area. Great ambiance. Exceptional fresh food and matching wines.
Highly recommended.
A new farm-to-table concept adds to the same great wood-grilled delights at this Cheshire Bridge landmark.

In Short
Appropriately, a large wood-fired oven dominates the dining room done in warm, coppery tones. The kitchen is manned by Kevin Gillespie, who took over for the massively-popular Michael Tuohy in 2008. Fans of the former chef's cooking should be pleased with Gillespie's transition--dishing a diverse and rotating menu that focuses on fresh ingredients, yet keeps the wood-cooking philosophy intact. The new lineup is less Californian and more share-able farm-to-table, with local rabbit, fish and Birkshire pork setting the tone. Wood-fired pizza features house-made fennel sausage and ricotta while entrees fancy-it-up with roasted rabbit leg and Sonoma duck breast. Those with an adventurous pallet should try the multi-course chef's dinner--designed personally by Gillespie and not revealed until each dish arrives--for a unique dining option.
My New Secret Spot
by jjjeffares at Citysearch
I've been dining in Atlanta for many years. I've heard the same names tossed around when looking for a new place to dine but I had never heard of this one before. My date and I walked in and I was amazed at how impressive the space is. We sat down at the beautiful copper topped bar and we ordered two of their custom sidecar martinis made with all fresh squeezed organic juices.
I'm not a big wine buff or food snob so I usually like to be coached along by the servers at a restaurant. Our server was wonderful in this aspect as he had no qualms highlighting his favorites and then suggesting wine pairings with detailed explanations of how the flavors would interact.
It has only been a week since we dined, but I'm looking forward to going back when my parents come into town next week.
- Pros: Incredibly knowledgeable service.
- Cons: wish it was closer to midtown
Fresh and Fun!
by queenb917 at Citysearch
I went to Woodfire Grill while I was visiting from out of town and was thoroughly impressed. We were meeting people for dinner so we stopped at the bar for a drink. The bartender had several very good wines to chose from, as well as some fun mixed drinks. The service the entire night was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu, which I understand is seasonal, so they serve only the freshest food. The portions were just right and the quality of the food was amazing. I will definitely come back again and again.
Great food, great atmosphere, great service!

I?ve been to Woodfire several times since the new owners took over and have enjoyed it every time. The creative, seasonal cuisine is always perfectly cooked and beautifully presented. And the attentive and knowledgeable staff offer impeccable service. I?ve eaten the tasting menu several times and highly recommend it ? it?s fun to be surprised with each course. And Nick, the owner, is always eager to offer some great wine pairing recommendations. Some of my favorites dishes include the sweet cream of corn soup, the Georgia fried catfish stuffed with shrimp, and as a side dish, the polenta (best in the city). Also, for desert, try the award-winning sweet potato panna cotta, which is absolutely delicious or their new chocolate cake with banana cream and chocolate peanut butter ice cream - just sinfully good!
Great dining experience

The food is perfectly prepared, fresh and delicious and the menu changes every time we go so there is always something new to try. The chocolate cake and the sweet potato panna cotta desserts are to die for!!If you don't know which wine would be best with your dinner, just ask Nick and he'll select just the right one. We have always had great service every time we've gone, and we'll continue to go back for great dining experiences.
Wonderful Experience Under the New Owners!
by jjstaff at Citysearch
It had been years since my first visit and I'm glad I returned when I did. From the lovely aroma of the wood fire grill from the main dining room, to the sincere "thank you" and "good bye" at our departure from both owners, Woodfire Grill was delicious. I've been twice in the last month with different guests and everyone enjoyed the experience. The five course "tasting" menu was very complete having samplings from various local offerings, each contributing great combinations in flavor. Also, the culotte steak was perfectly prepared, and Nick Quinones made a terrific wine pairing recommendation that was a home run. Each time we went was for the dining experience of unique locally acquired foods, a proven talented chef, and personalized service. We were not disappointed. I would also recommend their "bar menu" which had outstanding meats and cheeses available. The signature cocktails were very satisfying, and the staff was very knowledgeable regarding the entire menu. Woodfire Grill would be ideal for a business dinner, a family celebration or a romantic evening. You won't be disappointed either!
- Pros: Attentive owners, wine list, daily menu.
- Cons: Haven't found one
