An outstanding Cantonese find in Sandy Springs.
by Jonathan Baker
In Short
Most of Atlanta’s great ethnic finds are all clumped together off Buford Highway, but Canton Cooks is a gleaming OTP find in upper-class Sandy Springs. (Surprise!) Going into the place feels like walking into something closer to SoHo than suburbia: servers arrogantly scurry about, the plating looks like something circa 1988 and the place is always packed. Those who want real-deal Chinese (snow pea leaves, crispy noodles with seafood) Canton Cooks delivers the hard-to-find familiarities. If they have it, the chrysanthemum tea tastes remarkably like a flower smells and dragon soup, chocked with crab and lobster is one of the best soups in the city. The Americanized staples (chow mein, Mongolian chicken) still taste way better than anything at the local Golden Buddha, wowing those with less discerning pallets. Further channeling the big-city vibe, it’s open until 2am. You’ve got a keeper, Sandy Springs, congrats.
Great AUTHENTIC Chinese food!

The wonderful fact about Canton Cooks is that it is Chinese food by Chinese people. It is not an American Restaurant, therefore, it does not feel like one. If all you are interested in are fried eggrolls and General's Chicken, this may not be the place for you. On the other hand, if you enjoy experiencing culture through food...well this is definitly your kind of restaurant. The staff is friendly and generous. I felt comfortable asking for menu explanations and was able to understand their knowledgable reply. They are gracious even when serving very large parties. So if you can't get to China, go to Canton Cooks!
Oh, remember for your large groups to order family style.
Opened till late

When you are very hungry and out of options, this is the place you still want to avoid. The service is very horrible. The server cannot even speak english and refuses for me to order what I wanted in the first place. Even before the food comes out, they put the check out a couple of times and expects for us to pay. Do not eat the rice or sauces they provide because they reuse them. I know from experience.
- Pros: Free hot tea, close to Ross and WholeFood.
- Cons: Everything, especially the hot tea
Canton Cooks = Canton Crooks

I didn't like the soup I ordered and waiter refused to bring me anything else because "YOU MIGHT NOT LIKE IT EITHER!" Manager wasn't on duty. That sertainly made my satureday night. Old, worn out place should serve good food and have a good service to compensate.
- Pros: cheap
- Cons: horrible service
Great Food, Bad Servcie
by yumyumyumyum
The food is good but the service is absolutely horrible. As soon as you get your food they bring your check, They DON'T CHECK ON YOU, THEY DON'T REFILL YOUR DRINKS, THEY DON'T GIVE YOU A LIST OF BEVERAGES, THEY DON'T ASK YOU HOW YOUR MEAL WAS, THE TABLE AREA IS CROWDED AND YOU HAVE TO HUNT DOWN A WAITER TO GET THEIR ATTENTION. Love the food but the service is a huge turn off!
- Pros: DECENT FOOD
- Cons: BAD SERVICE
great Chinese food!

I've been hearing the buzz about Canton Cooks for a while until I finally got to go there myself. I went with my friends' family and it was awesome. They ordered food I've never heard of or seen of, but it tasted so good. They provided us with great service and there was no wait. It's open late and has great food. Great to dine with a group of friends so you can sit at the big table and try your friends dishes too.
- Pros: price, food, service
- Cons: location
Awesome Authentic Chinese Food in Sandy Springs, open til 2AM
by hungryandfatasian
Crythensamum tea, pan fried pot-stickers, chicken noodle soup and house Chinese style Chow mein, that's what I usually order when I get there... The restaurant is always packed, you'll be guaranteed to wait for at least 20 minutes. There is a regular menu and Chinese menu, you should try ordering from Chinese menu. I don't know about others but the service was excellent, food came out within 15 minutes, water and tea was re-filled before I noticed it is getting low... when I ordered soup, the waiter equally divided for everyone in the group without asking. The great thing is open til 2 AM.
Bad service to anyone not Asian
by adorabod
Food is good but service and treatment to any other cultures other than Asian & those they perceive to be well off financially is horrible. Don't expect any kindness or loyalty no matter how long you've been a patron.
- Pros: Good Food
- Cons: Awful treatment & service
Not Your Typical Chinese Restaurant
by bjp2592
The food at Canton Cooks is freshly prepared, not spooned out of vats like most "Chinese" restaurants. The service is decent and the decor is very plain. While the prices are higher than the typical Chinese restaurant, that is because the food is freshly prepared and of a much higher quality. It gets crowded so get there early!
- Pros: Great Food
- Cons: Ambience? What ambience?
Good food, fast service, expensive bill
by mikechen
This place provides real excellent Chinese food. The service is very fast. Of course the cost for customers is also high. If you do not care money, go ahead to try this Chinese restautant.
- Pros: Good quality of the traditional Chinese food
- Cons: High bills
