avoid this place, very poor service

by kualalumpur

extremely poor service, it took the staff a long time to get our initial order, we waited 30 minutes for our drinks and appetizers, we had to flag down several staff before we got any silver ware and all we got was a fork, no spoons or knives. and our dinner never came! ( we waited close to an hour ) finally we got fed up and left!

would not recommend this place to anyone, I have been here before , the service has never been great , the food average, but this it looks like this palce is going downhill

  • Pros: cant think of any!
  • Cons: can think of lots!

Promising food; service could use improvement

by pl00za

Impressions from a first visit: service was adequate, if not particularly friendly. We were evidently seated by the same hostess described by the reviewer on 10/10/2007 (or someone who studied under her): a scowling woman who snatched up menus, led us to a table and dropped them, and walked off without saying a word. Servers after that were better, but didn't 'table check' until we had finished and were ready to leave. (Also, I could really have done without the pop-country radio station that blared loudly from speakers in the dining room throughout the entire meal...)

The food was mostly good. The roti canai, although not "crispy" as described on the menu (I guess "soft, pliable, chewy Indian-style pancake" doesn't have as nice a ring to it), was accompanied by a very nice curry sauce. Steak satay skewers were also good, with a mild turmeric flavor from the marinade. Char Kuey Teow, one of their signature dishes, was somewhat bland: similar to pad Thai, but in a brown sauce without any distinctive sweet or salty flavor, which really cried out for some garlic, chilies, fresh cilantro, etc. It tasted like a dish from which some ingredients had been left out. Nasi Lemak, another signature dish, was much better-- I can't say I really noticed much coconut flavor in the "coconut rice," but it was good rice, and the accompanying curried chicken, fried egg, and vegetable side dishes were also quite good.

All in all an okay visit, and I'll give them another chance. I'm not someone who needs to be fawned over by waiters/waitresses when I eat out, but I do think this restaurant could stand to work on their service a little, unless it's their intention to discourage non-Asian customers from eating there, which I'm sure isn't the case. (A greeting or "hello" when customers walk in would be a great start.)

Exceptionally poor customer service, food is ok if you know what to order.

by malaysian

Reading reviews dated back to 2003, I am surprised the customer service has not improved over years. I was greeted by unfriendly, expressionless waitress the moment I stepped into the restaurant till I paid the bill. During the meal, never were we asked whether the food was ok. She came back with the receipt without even saying thank you. In 6 months, I have been to this restaurant 3 times, and each time service was bad.

In general, food is ok..but not everything. Oyster omelette and nasi lemak are good, you can try that. The rest depends on your luck and chef's mood? I have had Singapore fried noodle which was close to tasteless, koay tiaw (flat rice noodle) soup which was nothing like the authentic dishes you can find in Penang. Anyway, though food is not bad, I will not go back to this restaurant anymore. The bad service ruins my day. One can always find other Malaysian restaurants in Atlanta.

  • Pros: food (if you miss home food, or want to try malaysian cuisine)
  • Cons: bad customer service

bad customer service and spotty food

by tkdawg

I was amazed when I was approaced by two servers for not leaving a tip. They kept saying it was my responsiblity to leave a tip. I did not leave a tip because the service was horrible. Tips are not mandatory and waiters and waitresses are not 'entitled' to anything. To make matters worse one of the servers came out and cursed at me and my family and challenged us to a fight. A really good way to build up a good reputation. As for the food, it was just OK. i plan on calling the manager and owner to straighten out this incident.

Love this place!

by plumeria21

I've been dining here for years, and it's always great! Fridays and Saturdays are pretty crowded, but you can call ahead. I recommend the roti canai for appetizer, the chili chicken and kan kun belacan (entree and veggies), and the peanut pancake for dessert. Also, if you like coffee, try the iced coffee w/milk.

Great Restaurant

by luluwirawan

This is one of our favorite restaurants. We never had a bad service and all the waiters are personable and extremely helpful. All their dishes are exceptionally good and consistent. Our personal favorites are Penang Asam Laksa, Rojak, Nasi Lemak, and mee goreng. Great prices and easy parking. I highly recommend this place!

  • Pros: Great food, Great Servie, Easy parking

Food is ok, service is not

by kinphan

Most of the food is average. However, some dishes are very poor imitation of authentic Malaysian food. The worst part of dining here is the service. Some of the waiters/waitresses are just RUDE!!

  • Pros: ambience
  • Cons: , food

Zippy Malaysian cuisine tantalizes in whimsical Southeast Asian surroundings.

by Contributor

The Scene
The decor has a bamboo-shaded look, complete with a fake palm tree and a colorful mural of an impressively rooted tree. Set in an Asian shopping center, it is a kitschy pleasure. Attractively plated dishes arrive with lightening speed, as do refills to your water glass by the gracious wait staff.

The Food
Large portions, intense flavors and an extensive menu mean you'll want to share. Start with Roti Canai, a pancake you pull apart and dip into a curried sauce. Tom yum me hoon is a generous bowl of rice noodles laden with vegetables and seafood and spiked with lemongrass and cilantro. Sambal terung is eggplant flavored with a pungent shrimp paste; it pairs nicely with kari ayam, chicken in a curry sauce studded with potato and red onion. Although the meat is somewhat stringy, savory beef rendang is rich with coconut milk, chilies, cinnamon and cloves.

Reminds me of home....

by addie007

YUMMY! Food is very authentic to Malaysian/Southeast asian cuisine.

If you like spicy food, you'll have to give this place a shot.

We always order the beef rendang, belachan kang kung (vegetable), roti canai. Get ice kachang (a must to cool down your stomach) and bobochacha for dessert.

Service can be bad when they are busy but they have made improvements.

  • Pros: authentic food
  • Cons: service is fair
