I can highly recommend the German baked goods like the breads and bretzels. I miss my bretzels and I drive from Buford to get them there.

Regarding the other remarks about the cakes: I haven't tried their cakes yet, but German cakes tend to be less sweet and moist than the American cakes are. I love to bake but when I bake for American guests I always add sugar to my german recipe or I use American cake recipes. I remember my American cousin trying my German apple cake: she ate only two bites of it - just not sweet enough for her.

I was so happy when I found this place. The pastries, bread, cakes, etc are delicious. Their cookies and pastries are my favorite. They have creative holiday cookies along with European style pastries that I just love. It is definitely worth a visit!

Everything here is delicious! Cakes, cookies, bread, everything. I spent a lot of time here when I was pregnant :) They also have great lunch, their sandwiches are yum!

i recently ordered the white chocolate cake from this bakery because it looked like the best one - even though i have never been to this bakery i decided to give it a chance b/c its prices were reasonable. unfortunately, even though the cake looked delicious, i soon realized after tasting the cake, that the cake itself tasted very dry and old. the store had covered it up by drenching the cake in the white frosting and hoping to cover up the taste of the old cake. thankfully my guests did not realize this, but since i tend to get bakery cakes for most occassions i picked up on this very quickly. the other goodies the bakery offered looked appetizing but i dont think i want to risk buying anything from here again. i will go somewhere like henri's or joli kobe even though their cakes are more expensive.

  • Pros: fresh fruit
  • Cons: old cake

I'm from Chicago and am trying to find an equivalent to Chicago's Swedish Bakery here in ATL. Ordered a standard birthday cake (yellow cake, white frosting, strawberry filling) but was disappointed. The cake was not moist. The strawberry filling doesn't have any actual strawberries in it. Just some type of strawberry jelly or jam. The frosting does not seem that high quality; it gets hard pretty quickly.

It was my first visit to the store. It looks nice and other pastries and pre-made cakes look nice so I may visit again. But unfortunately, the birthday cake wasn't as expected.

In Short
Boasting more than 150 years of combined experience, these bakers specialize in European-style creations. Small indulgences include iced sugar cookies, petit fours, scones and Danish. Elegant fruit tarts, white chocolate mousse cakes, amaretto tortes and Mousse de Framboises are wow-inducing additions to dinner parties. Elegant wedding cakes are almost too pretty to eat. Donuts are served at the crack of dawn, and Boar's Head meat sandwiches--plus German deli meats--are peddled at lunchtime.

Great selection and much more reasonably priced than the lower quality/no service bakery down the street. This bakery is my guilty pleasure and I have tried more of their desserts than I would like to admit - the Chocolate Mousse Cake is my favorite. Stop by for lunch and have roast beef sliced in front of you and piled on the richest potato bread you've ever had! Imports and great gifts too (toile aprons, specialty cloth napkins, small kitchen decor items). Large, small, and individual serving sized cakes perfect for events or showers. Deserts look fancy, but the price is not. A fabulous must try in Sandy Springs.

  • Pros: Reasonably Priced, Small Business, High Quality
  • Cons: Limited Hours
