The Best Sushi Bar in Atlanta
by Blightie at Citysearch
I have been going to Hashigushi for at least 15 years
and the majority of the staff is the same and the food
is the most consistently fresh sushi. The service is
impecible. Truly authentic Japenese atmosphere.
- Pros: Consistently excellent quality sushi for 15 years
- Cons: They are not open late night

I would like to clarify that what jimt ordered "Chef's Choice" is really a random draw based on what the Chef chooses. In my opinon, it's a way for the restaurant to clear out old inventory (i.e. there's 20 tuna and 50 california rolls, both which may expire soon). I have stayed clear of Chef's choice because you never know what you're going to get (like a box of chocolates). So I don't think the restaurant can be judged by one Chef's Choice order. It was just a bad pick. I recommend the Katsu Don ($7-$8).
In my opinion, Hasiguchi Jr. is pretty authentic if you're looking for Japanese food. However, given the atmosphere it is a bit overpriced, but still worth a try.
- Pros: Authentic Japanese
- Cons: Slightly overpriced given the atmosphere
Divine!
by atlamc90 at Citysearch
Oh my gosh - the sushi here is absolutely divine, esp. the salmon. So fresh it literally feels like it could melt in your mouth. I wanted more! I heard great reviews so I wanted to try it for myself. After reading the other Citysearch reviews about having no ambience, calling the restaurant and finding out they have no website, seeing the handwritten signs on their door and handwritten menus -- I had to assume rightly that Hashiguchi Jr. instead decided to invest more in serving the freshest & most delicious sushi, getting a great sushi chef, & keeping the prices very reasonable. If you are a true sushi connoisseur, no need to spend the ridiculous prices at MF to pay for ambience if true sushi is what your heart desires. The entire crowd here was all Japanese clientele with just a couple of exceptions - which further makes me believe they must serve great sushi. While service was friendly, service was slow. Only 1 sushi chef ... and wish the waitresses could be better about drink refills. My favorites - salmon & Pacific. Not so favorites - Rainbow, spicy tuna. Next time I would like to try their Ramen -- they have several kinds, and the menu description intrigued me ...
- Pros: Sushi, friendly wait staff, prices, variety of menu selection
- Cons: Slow service, no website
True Japanese food

Unlike so many other Japanese restaurants, which are run by other Asian people in this town, thisis the real thing. The space is tight, but the food is good. I am Japanese, so I should know. Sushi chefs are Japanese and sushi is always fresh. Good and friendly service, too. I have been going there for several years. Everytime we try some other new Japanese restaurants, we get dissapointed. So far, this is it. Enjoy!
- Pros: Good real Japanese food
- Cons: small space
Best sushi anywhere!
by kagiva at Citysearch
I have been eating here for years. It honestly has the best sushi and authentic Japanese food anywhere in Atlanta or the nearby states. I have had sushi everywhere, the freshest fish etc, but Hashiguchi is amazing. They have great original sushi rolls in addition to the standards. Everyone I take here falls in love with the food as well. Every time my parents come to town we have to go here at least once. Highly recommended!
- Pros: GREAT food, tons of parking, good service and prices for the excellent quality food
Truely lovely homestyle Japanese food.

I love this restuarant and visit whenever I am in Atlanta.
As with any sushi restaurant, your bill can climb pretty quickly so order well.
My favorite part about this restaurant is that they offer many home-style dishes. Some of the items offered are the equivalent of ordering a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich but for Japanese food. I find that extremely comforting (eg. grilled rice in a flattened spherical patty) as my grandfather used to make these snacks for his grandkids after school.
Because there are so many mini dishes for just a few dollars it's a great opportunity to branch out and try something new.
I was there in 2005 and again in July of 2006. I took another American friend with me. We were the only American patrons at the time. The restaurant was lively with a large group of Japanese men laughing and eating and eating. We had a relaxed dinner at the sushi bar, the energy in the restaurant was just lovely. My friend had a donburi bowl of tuna sashimi. He orders this whenever we are at a Japanese restaurant. When he was finished, he looked sadly into his bowl and announced that his standards had now been raised so high that he was afraid he wouldn't enjoy the dish at any other restaurant in the southeast. It was lovely, the rice was delicately seasoned with nori, sesame seeds, and slivered scallions. My vegetarian sushi selection was delicious and fresh. The grilled rice patties that are spherical were just as they should be, lightly seasoned and well crisped on the outside. All in all, we walked out of there in a state of total relaxation and feeling like we had experienced a really special meal.
Just a hilarious aside..apparently I am not allowed to use the word b-a-l-l-s to describe a spherical patty of rice that is grilled. Citysearch has informed me that it is an inappropriate word. Can I say chicken breast?
- Pros: true Japanese cuisine in true Japanese style
- Cons: a little out of the way

Great authentic japanese food. I've been to alot of "sushi" restaurants throughout metro atlanta and I still consider Hashiguchi Jr. one of the best places to dine.
Me and Sumi loves.
Great sushi!

We love this place. We eat there once a week. It is the closest you will get to true Japanese food in Atlanta. The chefs and the wait help are very friendly and attentive. The prices are fair and the food is fresh. The best sushi in town. Easy parking as well.
- Pros: Great food, fair prices, easy parking
- Cons: can be smoky
Good Japanese dishes..not sushi!!

I go here for the traditional Japanese dishes but not for the sushi. Service is pretty attentive but if you come when it is packed full of Japanese customers you get overlooked. All in all I recommend it if you want to try traditional Japanese food.
rip-off
by jimt at Citysearch
this is a sushi bar. I ordered a lunch combo with sushi and a beef dish. Of course the sushi was "chef's choice". What this means is that you get california rolls and CUCUMBER rolls. Those types cost half for twice the quantity at a good grocery store. not that i want CUCUMBER rolls when i am in the mood for sushi. This is a sushi bar in a swanky part of town, for the price would it hurt so much to throw some tuna or salmon in the rolls? My friends got sashimi [what you get is also not listed] and they got salmon, tuna, yellow tail, octopus for the same price. Don't go, or at least don't order what I got
