Very Cool, but it's expensive

by somelikeitsomedont

It's an awesome place. I love the pirate-y waitstaff, and the live jazz is always a lot of fun, but it's so expensive! I still like going there from time to time, though.

  • Pros: Waitstaff dressed like pirates... arrrr!
  • Cons: It's too expensive!!!

Perfect Ambiance...Divine Cheese Fondue!

by Jill Mahan

This has, BAR-NONE, been my favorite place to go when in Atlanta!! Have frequented this place since I was a child (now 38). On or Off "the ship"...Jazz or Acoustic guitar...young or old...romance or friend....Heavy or Light eater...wine or coffee....You WILL NOT BE SORRY!!! Dante himself is as kind as they come, & I HOPE his place will stay around forever!! LOVE IT!!!!!

  • Pros: Translates you to a different environment
  • Cons: Limited Seating

no food for big bucks

by megestes5

Comming from a person who values atmophere, it was an amazing building. We were very disappointed in the amount of food we got for the price. We almost asked to speak to the manager and complain, but 1.) we aren't those kind of people and 2.) we realize that this is par for "expensive" dining. We wanted to stop and grab a bite to eat on the way home because we were actually pretty hungry when we left there. We won't be going back.

  • Pros: interesting top rate atmosphere
  • Cons: very expensive, left there starving

Interesting

by alimel

Dante's is a very interesting dining experience. We went there on a referral from a friend. We sat on the boat and overlooked the jazz band. The jazz band was incredible and the music was amazing. We had a great waiter who was helpful and made great suggestions. The food was just ok. It was good but not what I expected for the price. I thought for the food that it was relatively expensive.

  • Pros: entertainment
  • Cons: price

Mediocre and Overpriced

by GTYellowJacket

I did not enjoy Dante's. My boyfriend and I went for dinner date night and got the sampler fondue with a cheese fondue appetizer. The cheese was mediocre, at best and the bread was stale. The fondue meat was unseasoned and tasted as though someone just thought to chop up some beef and throw it on a platter earlier that afternoon. I think the Melting Pt has much better meat and cheese fondue.

There was a live jazz band, which was pretty cool. We sat at the bottom of the ship, close to the live band. Very nice atmosphere but small squished together tables.

They have a special dessert fondue, but you have to preorder it. Why can't they just throw some melted chocolate and marshmallows/fruit on a plate for those who wanted a smaller chocolate dessert? It doesn't seem that hard to throw together an alternate option.

  • Pros: live music
  • Cons: expensive, terrible dipping sauces

Nice atmosphere, okay food

by devon

Dante's was very interesting...makes a great place for a first date as it will give plenty to talk about with its interesting decor and music. It's not the best place though for a dinner because the nature of fondue makes you wait before eating each bite. Great for drinks and dessert. But why can't you get their famous chocolate on the weekends??? That should be available on the weekend days!

The night my friends and I went our server wasn't the greatest either. Kept forgetting drinks and didn't really seem to care about our experience. Quite frustrating especially when you're paying that much for fondue.

Fun to experience once, but won't be returning.

  • Pros: Interesting dining

Very Nice Time

by thebauersofmarietta

We enjoy Dante's. The atmosphere is nice, the music is great. Definitely sit on the ship, it's worth it. The cheese fondue appetizer is very good. I can't believe people complain on here about the portion sizes --- I could not finish all of mine and my husband was full when he finished his and could not order dessert! The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. We were impressed with every aspect of our experience. It's not the Atlanta Grille at the Ritz-Carleton, but for the money it was a very unique experience.

  • Pros: Ambiance, uniqueness, music, slow-paced (didn't feel rushed at all!)
  • Cons: little crowded (but we didn't have to listen to other converstations, even though they were physically a little close)

Not for every-day dining as it is expensive, but definitely worth it

by BELYPS

Dante's is very unique - the atmosphere is worth the experience alone. It looks as though you are dining on a ship, complete with live aligators in the moat below. The staff has always been friendly - everytime I go, I ask their recommendations and I have never been disappointed. Definitely try the strawberry daiquiri - it's the best I've ever had. The jazz band is great and the singer is phenomenal although you will pay extra to sit at a table with a view of the band. The parking is free, but don't be surprised when you see your tab as it is quite expensive for fondue. Ordering drinks will also bring your tab up quite a bit. It's not a place I want to dine at every weekend, but for any special occation it's great. Last time I was there we left a pretty hefty tip and once the waitress realized this she chased us into the parking lot to give us one of their anniversary glasses.

  • Pros: ambience, atmosphere, jazz band
  • Cons: expensive

Dante's is a sham

by dantescutscorners

I worked at Dante's two summers ago. I worked there as a cook, a dishwasher, and a host. I quickly realized that this "restaurant" was cutting corners at every turn. I have worked in other restaurants that pay attention to detail and quality. Dante's is simply not one of them. Let me start with the cheese fondue. You can pick it up at any publix supermarket because that is basically where it comes from. It is not any sort of hand crafted creation. Here are the directions I received to cook the cheese fondue: "Cut open the package and dump it in the pan. Heat it up and send it out." Somehow that shouldn't translate to more than 20 bucks for an entree portion. The kitchen is filthy as well. There are insects EVERYWHERE! They also claim that the oil contains no trans fats. This is a fabrication as it is not any sort of special oil without trans fats. It's full of them. And on top of that, the oil is re-used ALL week. Don't go on Thursday because that oil is a week old. The one thing that Dante's does is order good beef. That is about it. The rest of the ingredients are poorly kept and on top of that, there's not preparation done in the kitchen other than cutting up the meat. There is not a single person who works in that kitchen who is actually knowledgable about food. On to the desserts which are prepared "in house." They are ordered from a local bakery and heated up in the microwave before you get them at your table. I won't deny that they're good though. The chocolate cake is delicious and I ate many a piece while on shift. Finally the chocolate fondue. They claim that the fruit is brought fresh from some imaginary local market which is why you have to order it a couple of days in advance. This is not true. And the chocolate? Yes it is delicious and yes all it is is melted Toblerone with a little alcohol. The wait staff has a few good ones, but they only hire from within so they can't get any really talented staff to work there.

  • Pros: Cool atmosphere
  • Cons: prices you pay are absurd for what you get

Best place to dine and in the heart of everything.

by brokersuzy

Great restaurant, been my favorite for years. The atmosphere is very unique and will be very memorable to everyone who has an opportunity to dine in this establishment. I love the steak fondue and their dessert of course.
