Delicious

The food at the Colonnade is excellent, no doubt about it. The fried chicken is perfect, the pot roast is tender, the sides are just how they're supposed to be; this is all Southern cooking at its finest. The rolls to start off your meal are warm and fresh and the desserts are the best I've ever had. The Colonnade is worth trying--and you'll come back again, too!

  • Pros: Reasonable prices, Excellent food, Friendly staff

Here is a summary of issues we have had since being signed u

by AtlSales at Citysearch

Here is a summary of issues we have had since being signed up with the services from City Search.

Dishonest about how services are billed.

-I was given a different impression of how the site operates after talking to the citysearch employee for over 2 hours. I was given the impression that the site made income from adds placed by larger companies in the form of banner adds or featured sections. I have been involved with several different sites and they offer free advertisements and paid advertisements if you want a banner or bigger adds.

-Their was about 1-2 hours of conversation before the signup agreement where there was no mention of the service costing anything. Then during the signup process I was abruptly asked for my credit card information and was told the service would be $10/month, which is no problem, "with an investment of $1000/month." That's when I immediately stated that I can't afford this. Instead of looking out for the interest of me the customer, she was more intent on making a sale. She then replied that it is only a limit. She stated that "it is $1000 at a dollar a click, but if 1000 people contact you then it's worth every dollar." This statement would further imply that $1=1 contact. I at this point was under the understanding that the "Click" that was discussed earlier was in reference to clicking the link for contact information.. With this in conjunction of the possible number of people in Portland looking for a makeup artist for a wedding, I was under the impression I would be looking at $20-$50 a month. In actuality the service entails $1 per profile view not a dollar per click. If this was described and explained correctly I would have under no circumstances signed up for City Search. Not only is the explanation blatantly confusing but also borders dishonest. I would like to add that after finding out how services were billed I immediately attempted to terminate the service. Given the circumstances an exception could have been made for an early termination of services.

The profile itself was incomplete and poorly constructed.

-The profile was put together with very little care being a victim of numerous grammatical errors and obvious misspellings. Not only is this unacceptable especially for an add company but makes my business look careless and incompetent.

-Second I was also listed more than once, one of which was under the wrong category. there was one profile listed under Cosmetics which was correct, but another profile listed under Hair Salons. I am not a salon and have nothing to do with hair which should have been pretty apparent during the 2 hour phone conversation with the person signing me up. I signed up for one listing under Cosmetics. This looks like nothing more than a tactic to rack up profile views at a dollar a click especially when comparing the number of people looking for a makeup artist for their wedding with the number of people looking for a place to get their hair cut.

Out of the $1600.00+ that was charged to our business card for the over 1900 clicks we had in that 3 month period we were contacted by a total of 2 people. There is no way that many actual people clicked on that page.

Customer service.

Simply on an added note, In an attempt to sort all of this out, I had my significant other and partner in the business Jonathan call and try to work everything out. The gentlemen that he spoke to in customer service was not only uncompassionate of our situation but also very unprofessional. Very few questions were asked pertaining to how he could help and upon seeing that things were far from getting resolved he asked to speak to a supervisor. He was flat out told no. He than had to pry to find out who he could talk to for help. He then had to ask there isn't any one else to talk to? No supervisor or manager? at that point he was then told after a long pause simply they're in a meeting.

Worst experience ever!

by sip109 at Citysearch

I used to love this establishment for its southern charm and hospitality. But on a very rare occasion of having a relaxed dinner with my wife, it turned out to be a disaster and a pretty bad one at that.

I ordered their special of the night - pork shank with apple sauce and cabbage. The waiter (who was particularly not a service oriented guy who would get the utensils after having asked for) claimed that it was their popular dish. When we received our dinner plates, I found out within a bite or two that I was not served Pork, but Beef. So i asked my waiter if he was sure this was the right dish. Now I do not eat Beef for both religious and personal belief. The waiter(who earlier claimed that it was a popular dish and should have known the difference) took my plate and said he will check with the kitchen. After several minutes, he came back and just casually mentioned that it was the wrong dish and the pork would be ready in a few. To add insult to the damage, he did not utter a word of apology or appreciation for what I was going through. He just walked away as I looked at him in disbelief. My wife who was enjoying her shrimp & grits stopped eating, because I was waiting on my ordered dish. We contemplated just throwing in the dollars and walk out. But we did not want to make a huge fuss about this and decided to take it up with the reception and cashier on the way out. Mostly, it was because of the fact that we did not want to spoil the experience for others. We went through our dinner without uttering a word to each other and asked for the check.

We got our check and there was not even a mention of the fiasco. I explained my experience to the cashier who had just this thing to say." I will inform my manager of this . Please come back again". I offered to pay for the beef dish as well, because it was served to me. She took the money for our dinner and just said thank you. She did not even care to get my information.

If these guys really cared for their customer,

1) they should have waived the dinner charges

2) they should have got my information for the manager to call me

3) they should have called me and atleast heard my feedback. so that they can fix this problem they have. Mistakes happen, I understand. But even a big error is rectified by the greatness of customer service and appreciation.

None of this happened. May be if I had created a scene I would have gotten the deserved attention and service.

But I am never going to set my foot in this place again. I will cut my losses - just 50 dollars or so and the worst experience of dining ever in my life!

Everybody's got to go to the Colonnade at least once

by neatomosquito at Citysearch

I have to give this three stars. Why? The food really isn?t that great but then it isn't always about the food. This place is a real melting pot(t) with diversity being the word of the day. First, the wait staff. Pretty much all of them are real characters with Eric being a real stand out. What a nice man. One practically expects to see a hankie corsage on the gals but I digress. Second the eclectic customers. Expect to be comfortable with a well behaved and diverse (there, I said it again) crowd. Third, the food. Ok, so I said it wasn't that great. But, I've heard that there's a new chef and the specials sounded pretty tasty last time I was there. Naturally there are regulars that swear by this place. I'm not one of them. But, with the exception of the crab cakes which were notably really awful, I've never had a meal I didn't finish. So, if you want decent food at a decent price make sure you check this place out.

  • Pros: Great service, decent portions
  • Cons: Yes, you will wait to be seated at certain times

The best of the best in comfort food

by rockstar79 at Citysearch

We visited the Colonnade a few weeks ago and I have been dreaming of it ever since. The Colonnade is a traditional meat-n-three and good meat-n-threes are hard to find anymore. Drinks are inexpensive and service is friendly but to the point. My favorite part of the meal was the warm yeast rolls...I can't wait to go back for those! I had the fried chicken with mac&cheese and cole slaw, and my hubs had the beef short ribs and loaded smashed potatoes. The chicken was divine and so were the short ribs. Sides were just ok, but they have such a wide variety to choose from that I'm sure I'll find something I love soon enough. I like that they offer nice fresh salads as well. Nice menu selection and prices are competitive.

  • Pros: quality comfort food, warm rolls, cheap drinks
  • Cons: none

Great Southern Food With A Hoot!

by jaymaygm at Citysearch

I've been eating here for the past twenty-five years and love it. It's Southern Food like your mother never could cook, but your grandmother did. Starting with the wonderful homemade yeast rolls, lettuce wedge w/blue cheese dressing, and the fresh seafood platter. The vegetable sides are fresh and killer. For a great finish, try the coconut creame pie. And the best most diversified group of patrons in the city. Love the waitress, when she calls "hon". They don't make them like this anymore!

  • Pros: Real Southern Food, Great Service!
  • Cons: No Credit Cards

Old-school Midtown restaurant specializes in Southern food.

by Contributor at Citysearch

The Scene
Situated amid the strip joints and antique shops of funky Cheshire Bridge Road, this sprawling restaurant doesn't have a colonnade in sight, but it's an immensely popular Midtown destination. Inside are several large, sparsely decorated dining rooms and a smoky bar. Service, provided by a veteran staff, is efficient and friendly.

The Food
Halfway between a meat-and-three and a tea room, this throwback restaurant specializes in old-fashioned Southern food. A bread basket full of hot yeast rolls and corn muffins is a highlight, as are fresh vegetables and homey desserts. Fried chicken is especially good, as is the roasted pork loin with celery dressing and the chicken pot-pie. Shrimp cocktail (served with tear-inducing horseradish-laced cocktail sauce) and a retro iceberg wedge salad are worth ordering as well. Peppermint ice cream, a signature item, makes an excellent finish.
