Who is Derek Lawford?

by ganative

Why is this pub-chain struggling? It seems that Fado is strengthening their hold on the pub market and DLP have closed their Decatur, Midtown, and Westside locations. The interiors of the dlp stores are authentic. The prices are pretty high for a pub even in a major city. $6.00 for a pint of Stella? And the food isn't up to par , even for pub standards. You may as well bring in Shaun Doty to consult the menus. Oh, that's sooo last year. Why not counsel with R. Blais? He may pair your horrible Belgian bottled beers with his froie gras milkshake. Sounds like a winner! In the mean-time; I'm hanging in Buckhead( remember E. Paces Ferry , boys?) and paying that ridiculous door fee to get into Fado. Also, Churchill's seem to know what they're doing. We all go to CCC, but how long are you going to play this charade?

  • Pros: When open...the happy hour regulars(the 40's and a 30 or two) are great conversationalists
  • Cons: Prices. Cigarrette machine always broken.

Management Must Be Writing the Positive Reviews for This Place

by jsmith232

I really believe that management is writing the good reviews for this place, as they ARE the only ones delusional enough to believe the garbage that "atlchick" is writing. Bud Light is not the king of beers??? It is in fact the BEST SELLING BEER IN AMERICA EVERY YEAR since 2001. Youre right, why would i be crazy enough to expect a "bar" to have the most popular bottled beer in America? I guess that is ludicrous. I could drink it on draft but I know for a fact that those draft lines are so old and dirty that they shoot leaves and other debris out, as I was once served a beer with some sort of trash in it once, back when I used to frequent this place when it used to be a legitimate establishment with legitimate staff. They know how to pour a stiff drink too, incredible. When that is a major selling point, you know the place must be lacking. I would hope that they do considering how overpriced their liquor is, as well as the beer. $6 beers are standard in BUCKHEAD, HIGHLANDS, AND MIDTOWN, not off the beaten path on collier road. Also, I frequent Churchill's, a real English pub in a prime location, often and it is actually CHEAPER to drink there than at the Fox and Hounds. Couple that with them having bartenders that actually know what they are doing and how to hold a bottle and pour shots or beers or anything, and an atmosphere that is filled with ATTRACTIVE women and a good vibe, why would anyone ever choose this overpriced, drab, depressing, joke of a substitute? Also, nice article in Friday's AJC about the 2 million in back taxes and debt to creditors that the clowns of owners owe the state. Not only are these guys monetarily bankrupt, they are morally bankrupt as well apparently, letting their pubs shut down wholly unconcerned with their employees. Great guys to support....please. My advice is to find somewhere else, Fox is a JOKE.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: ownership, management, staff, prices, beer selection, atmosphere

Awesome, chill bar

by atlchick

Fox and Hounds is one of my favorite local hangouts. I live right around the corner, so it's very convenient to get to. The food is amazing (I've never had anything I didn't like) and the atmosphere is so inviting. I used to frequent it a least 2-3 times a week (it's been closed for renovations recently) for dinner or drinks and have never had a bad time. The service is always friendly and knowledgeable; I don't know what barguy33 is talking about.

The staff there is always nice. I've gotten to know some of them so when I come in they come over to the table and know what drink I'm having. Not many places in Atlanta do that. And what's the big deal about not having Bud Light in a bottle? A lot of places don't have it. Get over it. Bud Light is not the king of beers.

The prices are the same as most of your other Atlanta bars that serve import beers, $5.50 - $6.00 for a pint. It's not a college bar where you can get a $2 crappy beer, but you can sample a wide variety of international and high gravity beers. They also know how to pour strong liquor drinks, which always makes me happy.

I recommend Fox & Hounds if you are looking for some place where you can sit and chat with friends, enjoy a great pub-style meal, or you want to play pool or darts. It is a very laidback place, but I've seen plenty of people get pretty crazy there!

  • Pros: fun atmosphere, great food, nice staff, awesome patio
  • Cons: some menu items are a little pricey

Great locals bar

by rockinrobin88

I was constantly searching for a bar to rival Cheers where everyone knows my name and I can grab a beer amongst friends. The Fox & Hounds is it. True, they don't have Bud Light in a bottle, but that's because they're an English Pub. They don't even have Ranch Dressing in the kitchen, but they have PBR in 16 oz cans...I think i more than makes up for it! I'm not looking for your run-of-the mill dive bar (Mr C's is right down the street for that). This is a great place to try some beers you have never heard of (try the Otter Head in a bottle) or quench your thirst with one of your old favorites (they know the RIGHT way to pour a Guinness and always have plenty of Jager bombs!)

They changed their entire menu recently and I'm still trying to find something on it that I DON'T like. Even the Fish & Chips has been upgraded. I see a lot of new faces behind the bar and on the floor, but I've never had anything but a pleasant experience with the entire staff.

I recommend Sundays or Mondays for a first visit. Sundays they have a special pint on tap for $1 and $1 Fish Tacos. Mondays, all their food is half priced. Some of the pints can run higher than you're used to, but they serve 20 oz glasses instead of your usual 16. I've found I end up spending about the same here as I do anywhere else....and I don't have to go to the bar for a new drink nearly as often. I suggest you check this place out if you're looking for someplace to call "home."

  • Pros: pool tables, darts, video games
  • Cons: limited parking lot, although street is usually open

Are you kidding me?

by barguy33

Obviously, rockinrobin88 is a staff member, that is the only possible way that review was so good. First of all, last week, the fox and hounds was serving water to customers and washing dishes with WATER FROM THE BATHROOM SINK BECAUSE THE OWNER COULDNT PAY THE WATER BILL AND THE WATER WAS SHUT OFF. also, the EXCUSE for not having bud light in a bottle is that it is an english pub but they have PBR in a can? how english is that? EVERY LEGIT BAR IN THE ATLANTA AREA HAS BUD LIGHT IN A BOTTLE. also, half of the staff looks as though this is their first bartending job ever as most of them dont even know how to hold a liquor bottle or pour a shot. i guess its a good spot for them to start though seeing how its ALWAYS EMPTY. DONT GO HERE IF YOU WANT TO HAVE A GOOD TIME, THE PLACE IS A JOKE.

  • Pros: none
  • Cons: Staff is weak and 99% of the women that hang out there are fat and nasty, including the staff

Better Win the Lottery to Afford This Place

by dreww

Im new to the whole collier hills area, and i was looking for a nice local hang out, which i thought i had found in the fox and hounds. the place looked like a traditional pub when i walked in, adorned with beer and liquor decor. The bartender was a friendly guy and helped me to try a nice bitter, wells bombardier. when i went to pay he informed me that the beer was 6.25 for a pint!!! How stupid are the people running this place?? They may as well just charge a million dollars for a beer and then close for the rest of the year when someone buys one. All of the beers on draft are about 6 dollars, save bud light. I didnt eat food cause the menu was lacking as well as overpriced. Im not sure who owns this place, but they need to get out some to see what is actually going on in other places, rather than arbitrarily picking numbers that are way too high for the products

  • Pros: friendly bartender, good draft selection
  • Cons: way too overpriced for the neighborhood, menu is weak

1st review didn't deter us, thankfully!

by myman8

We just came home from the Fox/Hounds and are curious how the 1st reviewer had such a bad time. Our time there was fun and, at times, outrageous. The decor is Trad. English pub-style sorta like I recall during my semester in London. I spoke with a bartender and he informed me that this john guy had left and a new energy was flowing through the restaurant. The draughts have been changed and it shows. Locals and hard-to-find English brews are on tap. We enjoyed the Victory beer(rec'd by a regular) and 420(never my fave, but Gal's fave.) Staff seemed to be on top of everyyhing on a decent night. No food tonight, but I might consider lunch there. BTW, the music was up, but not too loud. Don't know where the reviewer thought they were. A cafateria? Altogether, a great night! We'll return for a weekend visit. I always see cars on the street when we drive by.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, in our(new) neighborhood. Draught selection. Amicable staff.
  • Cons: Boring menu.

Some of the Worst Customer Service in Atlanta

by onthemoney

The customer service is perhaps some of the worst I ever experienced. My girlfriend and I were trying to talk and found it difficult because the music was turned up pretty loud.

Now I like loud music quite a bit but we were here for to enjoy an after work drink with one another and this music was up so loud we were unable to hear each another. I expect really loud music from a nightclub or even a good honky-tonk, but not from an English Pub in the early evening. When we asked "can we please have the music turned down" we were introduced to the manager.

So when the manager, John, came over, we explained our difficulty hearing one another and asked again "can we please have the music turned down a little" the manager simply said one word, "No." When I asked John why, he said people pay to play songs in the jukebox and want to hear them. I was astounded. I didn't ask him to turn off the music, just down a little. I guess he didn't understand people pay for drinks too and would like to drink them while talking with others.

Would you treat your customers like this? Would you like to be treated like this? Certainly not. This manager is unqualified and it filters down to the staff. I recommend you stay away from Fox & Hounds, at least until they hire new management.

BTW, when I told the manager we were leaving he wanted to charge us for our two full drinks. You won't be seeing me at Fox & Hounds.

  • Pros: Good decor and can be good atmosphere at times
  • Cons: Poor on site management and disregard for customers

OK but Poor Customer Service

by psok

An "OK" place but pretty bad customer service when I went. Good darts and pool area. Good drinks but pricier than a lot of places. The bartender was good but the servers at the tables just had poor attitudes. Probably would not return for this reason.

  • Pros: Good pool/darts area
  • Cons: Customer Service

A little pricey and a lot inconsiderate.

by cousineddie

The atmosphere is great and the drinks, though a little over-priced, are strong. The problem is how rude the staff gets when they want you to leave. I was with a very large group that had spent quite a lot of cash only to be treated very rudely when closing time came around... about an hour before bars close in the area.

  • Pros: Cool place, Good food, Strong drinks
  • Cons: Rude Staff, Fratty feel, Expensive Drinks
