A cornerstone of the late-'90s East Atlanta redevelopment, the Echo Lounge has built a reputation to match its location: just to the side of mainstream, but always worth the trip. A once-ailing sound system has been refurbished, and benches now line the concert hall. Also gone are the retro-futuristic fittings of the side room, and in their place, faux flame sconces and dark velvet curtains decorate a nocturnal den.

The sound is the best that I have ever heard.. The Echo Lounge's new soundsystem is the best.. and always the best booking in the state.. this place cannot be beat..

Echoes of grandeur

The Echo Lounge draws boys and girls in tight thrift shop Ts and ill-fitting jeans and cords. These kids have good taste in music, though, so if you're interested in hearing quality bands already tested on the indie tour circuit, come here. The shows rarely disappoint. The sound (recently upgraded) still isn't the best, but its still a gritty venue and with a little forgiveness, you'll have a great experience. Especially nice is the intimacy between the crowd and band. If you're in the front, you're close, really close to your idol of the moment.
