Works by prominent black artists, past and present, are the focus at this exceptional museum.

The Museum
Notable for being Georgia's only independent museum dedicated to fine art of the African Diaspora, Hammonds House aims to preserve, showcase and increase public awareness of black contributions to world culture. The museum is located in a beautiful Victorian house in the West End, an elegant setting for an impressive collection. A well-organized resource center provides information on artists of the African Diaspora. You can also attend lectures and symposia (the Backyard Symposia series is especially popular), enroll the kids in exhibition-related activities, or take a class yourself.
The Art
Exhibitions feature works by historic and contemporary artists and include selections from the museum's 250-work permanent collection. The collection includes works by Haitian artist Romare Bearden, as well as local (Radcliffe Bailey, Tina Dunkley, Jeneise Holloway, Lev Mills, John Riddles) and national artists.
