What users are saying:
Best fast food fried chicken. Period.
by HunterPearson
I'm a sucker for the fried chicken night at Watershed, the Sunday Supper at JCT or Eugene, and the nostalgic fried chicken at the Busy Bee. But to perfectly honest... my favorite fried chicken in Atlanta (or anywhere), is Popeye's. I have no clue how they do it. It's crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Even the white meat is just perfectly moist. And somehow they manage to spice the bird UNDER the skin (*always order it spicy*) so that way your lips don't catch fire but the spice sort of hits ya on the back end.
I know people rave about their red beans and rice, but I've been persuaded by their cajun fries and stick with that. Crispy, seasoned, perfection. My only complaint is their biscuits. Considering the fact they have "biscuits" in the name... you'd think they'd be a little better. They get a star knocked off for that.
- Pros: Righteous fried chicken
- Cons: Bad biscuits
Cajun-inspired chicken and biscuits chain proffers classic Southern favorites, seafood, sides and desserts with a tangy twist.

In Short
This Cajun-style fast food restaurant first opened in New Orleans in 1972 and has since achieved domestic and international fame for its flavorful mild and spicy chicken. In addition to the storied buttermilk biscuits, seafood menu items range from fried popcorn shrimp and shrimp snack "Craver Paks" to chicken sausage jambalaya, catfish baskets and shrimp etouffee. More festive Louisiana regional fare--think red beans and rice, and Mardi Gras cheesecake--rounds out the menu.
Own stock!

Since I've moved to Atlanta, my one and only addition has become Popeye's Cajun shrimp pac! The best for the midday craving in midday traffic! I need to own stock!
- Pros: menu selection, flavorful, snack pacs
- Cons: slow in rush hour
My favorite chicken
by brythonic
This is one of my favorite guilty pleasures. Give me a 3 piece combo dark and spicy with a side of rice and beans and I am one happy man. Warning: It is greasy, bad for you, the service stinks and the stores are usually less then presentable. But the chicken.. ....aaaaaahhhhhh... .. .. the chicken, the chicken.. (drool)
Ridiculous

Anyone who chose this place obviously hasn't had real fried chicken. The best chicken in this town is found at Grammy's Buffet in Sandy Springs, right off Roswell Rd. Best chicken I've had in AGES.
Yum!

Great place to go when you get a craving! My husband loves the jambalaya. I love the crawfish, when it's available.
They sell items that you can't find at any typical chicken place. Their cajun fried turkeys are awesome!
so so chicks

Love the food. Home of serious flavor! The new image for the restaurants is excellent!! It's not just chicken. I love the Jambalaya, Shimp Po'Boy sandwich and the Fried Catfish too! Don't forget the red beans ... best I ever had!
- Pros: Taste, Cajun Flavors, Cool looking stores
- Cons: Not enough of them

It shows you how culinarily challenged we are when Atlanta, the heart of the South, votes Popeye's #1 and Publix Super Market #2. What's next, Best Pastry - Kripy Creme?
- Cons: Best to be a Con
