student=second class citizen

I purchased the student ticket to the museum for 15$, not a bad price but not a good discount either. The ticket person told me that i could see all of the exhibits. I walked through one wing of the museum and on the 3rd floor i was not allowed into a "members only" area. Ok, no big deal. I finished viewing that wing and tried to move on to the next. I wasn't even allowed into the next wing!!! Again members only! What did i pay for? I was so disgusted that i left without even attempting the 3rd wing. There are no signs that i saw stating that certain areas are members only, or signs at the ticket counter stating that whole collections would not be accessible with a regular student ticket. It was embarrassing to walk through a revolving door and be told by a staff member that you aren't allowed in and must go back out immediately. I felt deceived and cheated.
- Pros: nice architecture
- Cons: poor value, deceptive marketing/ticket sales
The High is one the best cultural experiences in Atlanta
by Blightie at Citysearch
Being a native Atlantan, it is nice to see such a great
representation of our cultural growth over the years!
The High is an Art Piece in itself and has great
exhibits that my whole family can enjoy!
- Pros: Great exhibits
- Cons: Always a drive

The Louve Is Alive In Atlanta!
by jaymaygm at Citysearch
As a long standing member of the High Museum, I'm totally blown away by the current exibit, on loan from The Louve. All the great masters are here, many have not been moved out of Paris in hundreds of years. The current expansion, and the new Anne Cox Chambers Wing, is more than outstanding. We are now a world class desination for the Arts! Bravo! Atlanta!
- Pros: Richard Meir Design! Louve-Atlanta Exhibit!
- Cons: Parking Can Be Tricky, If Driving!
The museum unveils its newly expanded galleries and collection to the public.

The Scene
Designed by Richard Meier, the High was named one of the 10 best works of American architecture of the 1980s by the American Institute of Architects. The imposing white structure provides a stark modern contrast to the sky. Architect Renzo Piano's recent expansion doubles the size of the space while maintaining the minimalist look. Galleries are interlocked and easy to navigate, thanks to a spiralling ramp that circles an atrium and branches off to each level of the museum.
The Collection
The museum houses a growing body of contemporary art, a wonderful decorative arts section, beautiful 19th-century landscape paintings, and five centuries of European painting and sculpture, as well as African masks and ceremonial figures. Big exhibitions come to the High, usually the lone Southeastern stop on national tours. Past exhibits included works by Van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Degas, Toulouse-Lautrec, Rockwell, Michelangelo and other giants in art history.
Disappointment
by questar at Citysearch
The exhibits are nice, the building is great, but I found the staff unhelpful and often poorly informed. I received permission at the front desk to photograph part of a special exhibit, but moments later was asked to leave because I took a photo of an Egyptian artifact. When asking questions of the staff, they were often unable to answer questions.
- Pros: Good price, Nice exhibits
I am amazed this is in Atlanta!!!

For a city not known for its culture, this is an incredible museum. It impresses in local art and international classical art. I had never joined a museum (or anything like it) before and was convinced that my money would be well spent at the High. For my membership I get some free passes and a few other trinkets. The passes alone are worth it. Just to be able to get in on days and times that the crowds are not (and during some big events the public does flock) is worth it.
Check for student discounts and coupons, they are everywhere.

This is alot of fun for kids of all ages as well as the adults. We saw the Picasso exhibit and it was wonderful. My children were really impressed with his colorful paintings and even wanted souvenirs.
Best Museum

The High Museum is the best museum. The building itself is remarkable, not to mention all the stimulating things inside. There is something for all ages, genders, and every ethnic group.
- Pros: spacious, entertaining, reasonably priced

"Two years ago my Honors Literature teacher took my class on a field trip to this wonderful museum. The thing is we went to th HIGH museum of art on 4-20. We thought that was pretty cool. I love how the stairs go around on the inside and the woman sitting in the chair exhibit was fascinating. I love this museum. It's great!"
