Bad customer service!
by Lawsonil
I attended a class in August on a Wednesday morning and it was pretty good. I decided to sign up for a series beginning in September. Unfortunately, I missed the first session due to a last minute scheduling conflict; therefore, I decided to cancel the series. I called and called and emailed to request a refund. No one ever answered the phone, returned my calls, nor responded to my email. I had to file a dispute with my credit card company. Bad business practices!!
Not your Mammas Yoga.

If you want to learn what Yoga is about, if you want to push your mind and your body and feel twice as great as you would anywhere else you go for your efforts..you come here and learn the yoga that has been cultivated through the ages, the yoga of precision. If for the extent of your Yoga, you want someone to be nice to you and speak in a soft, and relaxing tone go to your local gym and you will stil feel good and it may just be what you need. I have tried many different Yogas, not one comes close to the integrity of this yoga. This Yoga comes from the foundation of the Yoga Sutras. If you want the real deal, this is it. This is one of the top branches of yoga. At Stillwater Yoga they have a variety of styles for everyone (gentle or vigourous) and they also offer a Pranayama or breathing class that will leave you very...inspired.
Steve is an excellent teacher..has been for many years, but some people just expect to be catered too everywhere they go. This yoga is not for the meek.

- Pros: Be happy there is Iyengar in Atlanta.
- Cons: There is only one studio in Georgia
uptight yoga
by SabrinaBrennan
I have been practicing yoga for the past 10 years (3 + times a week) in San Francisco. On a recent trip to Atlanta I dropped in on two classes at Stillwater Yoga Studio. Unfortunately I found two instructors at Stillwater hostile towards modifications. They made negative examples out of students and didn?t show the ?correct? posture as example. They both prefer giving verbal orders rather than demonstrating correct posture. I was told on more than one occasion that I wasn?t doing the ?classical? pose. It was inferred that non-classical was a bad.
Over the years I have had an opportunity to practice with many excellent and highly regarded instructors.
My experience with the instructors at Stillwater was disappointing.
I always look forward to an opportunity to practice while traveling. Hopefully other studios in Atlanta have more to offer.
Left feeling frustrated not relaxed

I tried the Saturday morning vigorous class taught by Steve and needless to say, I will never return there. I have taken yoga over the past four years and wanted a challenge. This class just moves really fast so you can't even really get into the pose properly. Steve is the worst yoga teacher I've had. He's very pompous and even made fun of my friend who came to visit me from Acworth. He acted like she was from the boondock and whatever yoga she was doing, it wasn't good enough by his standard. The funny thing is, he can't even do some of the poses he calls out!!!! He's really good at calling the poses by it's proper name not the English version which didn't impress me. He has no personality for a yoga instructor. What ever classes he teaches, run the opposite direction!!!
- Pros: nothing
- Cons: paying for a worthless class, parking, bad instructor
Midtown Iyengar yoga center offers a breather from urban life.
by Contributor
In Short
Tucked away on the second level of the Midtown Promenade, the certified Iyengar yoga center offers 30 classes a week, from beginner to advanced levels. The studio's white walls, hardwood floors and high ceilings provide a welcoming space. Director Kathleen Pringle studies regularly with B.K.S. Iyengar in India.
Best Studio and Teachers Around

If you want yoga as a workout, hit the gym. If you want integrate yoga into your lifestyle and really understand what it's all about, Stillwater is the place to be. I have attended classes there three times a week for three years and couldn't imagine a better experience- and I have tried other studios from New Zealand to Boston. Yoga isn't a workout but something to work ON and enjoy for the rest of your life, and Stillwater is a great place to start. The variety of teachers and levels lets you choose what is comfortable for you.

This studio has a wonderful reputation around town, but Ive had better experiences elsewhere. The instructors are skilled and great about talking you through each pose and positioning your body just right. The problem with this is that the classes move very slowly (the beginner ones at least) and arent as challenging as others. This may be perfect for some people, but if youre looking for a workout with your yoga, you may want to try out some other studios before signing on. Also, the space detracts from the overall experience because its stuffy and doesnt smell that great.
Best yoga studio in town

My Wednesday night level 1 yoga class is often the highlight of my week. Stillwater teaches Iyengar yoga, which allows the use of props like blocks and straps to help students achieve the poses. It's surprisingly strenuous, but at the same time deeply relaxing. I find that while I'm completely focused on my poses and movement, which is fantastic for clearing the head (especially when you're a bit stressed out from work). The instructors are great--they're patient and helpful but really make the students work hard. My only complaint is that the evening classes are sometimes crowded.
