Gay bar without the snobbish bar attitude.
by Contributor at Citysearch
In Short
Neon beer signs and homoerotic posters are attached to anything that stands still at one of Atlanta's oldest and most popular neighborhood gay bars. Most patrons skip the pinball machine in favor of the huge tropical patio, complete with cozy partitioned huts - think Gilligan's Island gone glam. Make your way up to the second floor for a bird's eye view of the bar or a game of pool. The music is heavy and loud and regulars often turn the main bar area into a dance floor after hours. Burkhart's is full of approachable men from 21 to 40-plus along with a mix of women and various hangers-on. The golden rule here is to have fun and leave your attitude at the door. Served by friendly bartenders, the drinks come fast and strongly mixed and low prices make for a quick and serious buzz.
Best Drag Show in the City "The Mary Edith Pitts Show" Fridays and Saturdays
by JeremyS at Citysearch
I moved here last month from Tampa and I have to say after surveying the scene, Burkharts is hot!! I've never been too big on drag cause of how rude a lot of them can be but Mary Edith is self depricating and hysterical! You can tell she loves the people and loves what she does. I introduced myself to her after a show and she took the time to talk to me and tell me how much she appreciated me being there. I really do feel like one of the family. Keep up the good work!!
- Pros: The best drag in the city! Mary Edith Pitts is hysterical
- Cons: Too much smoke at times; Sometimes a line to get in on the weekends.
Nice place for good music.

We walked into the bar and was suprised to see so many people, we had no idea that there was a drag show going on, we went upstairs to get a drink, and see the layout of the bar. It was pretty interesing to see the bathrooms on the second floor, and i was also outside. we were unable to enjoy the patio area, but the drinks I thought were resonably priced. We then had to stand on the stairs to see the drag show, which I thought was pretty entertaining. Be careful not to stand against the wall on the stairs, someone might accidently kick a drink glass down onto you. There was not much room to dance, but if you are persisant enough you can make room. The people seemed to be nice, and there was not alot of attitdude.
- Pros: great drink prices, friendly staff
- Cons: Not enough sutiable room to see shows.
Nice layout, good food, nice guys hanging out there.

That woman complaining about the doorman probably did not have an ID, besides she would have freaked out about the nasty womens room. Anyways, talk about fun!! My friends and I got together there a few weekends ago and had a blast!! I had to come back to get my car the next day. (It was actually safe in the lot). I would recommend the place to anybody white black gay straight male female because for the money (no cover, free parking, CHEAP good food) you can't beat it in Atlanta. The place is so cool, the layout has obviously had a good deal of thought put into it. We go to Blakes from time to time to see Kitty buy honestly that blimp drag queen Ruby Red is mad at her own mama....downer, anyhow, Burkharts is cool and so are the guys that hang there.
- Pros: No cover, free parking, quality food, fun crowd
- Cons: Womens room, service, hours

Some of our community was just in Burkharts on Sunday, a few ladies and a few gentlemen, no-one gave us any problems like stated in a review on this page. This is mostly a gentlemen's gay club, but women are not treated badly.
Our Community is a "NEW ATLANTA LGBT COMMUNITY"********* (MA) DIVERSITY***********
You may find us at: MEETUP IN LGBT FRIENDS to meet the rest of us.
We are a rapidy growing LGBT COMMUNITY
- Pros: Big and spacious. Two levels upstairs and downstairs and they even have a patio out back
- Cons: No Cons
A terrific evening tarnished by a descriminatory doorman
by tdiguy at Citysearch
Burkhart's is a really fun place with little attitude. BUT there's a serious problem when you have a doorman who blatantly discriminates against women. I am shocked that a gay bar employs a doorman who would be insensitive about selective admittance based on an objective thing like gender. To top that, his high and mighty attitude left me feeling completely unwelcome. I don't think I'll be back and I'll be sure to share my negative experience with my many gay and lesbian friends. I am truly saddened by the lack of caring in a time when Atlanta's city government seems to be pressuring so many gay establishments to close. I wish Burkhart's the best, but I cannot return until I'm confident that they have ended their discriminatory ways.
- Pros: It's a fun place with a friendly, non-judgemental crowd
- Cons: The doorman was as descriminatory and rude
Sorry guys.....

I keep on reading about no attitude here. Yes the crowd is super relaxed and easy going. I have enjoyed the staff as well until thrown out last week for having a little non-harmful fun. Guess what, I stepped behind the bar as a dare from friends (come on, its a bar for godsake, how serious can you take it) and was thrown out, but not just asked to leave (which I totally agreed with and take full responsability), but I was "escorted" through the main show area, and publically humilited as the point was made repeatidly that I was bwing thrown out and of course had to be pointed out to the door man that I was not allowed to return (at the top of the staff's lungs for all to hear) Thanks guys, wouldn't return anyways.....
- Pros: layed back - easy going crowd
- Cons: staff needs to lighten up and allow the guests to have some unrestricted fun
Unbelievable! Great Crowd No attitude from staff....

It is really neat to drop in an old nightclub and see a lot of what it was and still keeping up with the times. The staff was mostly friendly and sober! Not really into drag queens but the ones that were there entertaining were lots of fun. Plenty of hot guys and plenty of places to hide with them. Had a great time.
- Pros: Great food, great drinks, clean bar
- Cons: drag, not enough tv's, day bartender is a drunk
As good as it gets here in Atlanta
by city_searcher_42 at Citysearch
This place isn't perfect but it's got something for almost everyone. If you go alone, your chances of meeting someone here are better than anywhere else. I have found it to be a mostly middle-aged crowd however from what I understand that's not always the case. Not what I would call cruisy but like I keep saying, this is as good as it's gonna get. The outdoor patio is cozy and comfortable. I'm not surprised everyone likes this place. They have the formula for success. Around midnight to 1am on Saturday is when I think you will find the crowd to peak.
The steak dinner rocks!
by shamen04 at Citysearch
I saw all of the reviews about this $4.75 steak dinner so I went toBurkharts and ordered it. It was better than what I have had at many steakhouses! It was cooked exactly how I ordered it and had a generous side of vegetables and fries. I've never had a meal this good at a bar before. This was truly a find! Burkharts is a really a very friendly pub. The outside garden patio is very relaxing.
- Pros: $4.75 steak dinner, friendly, outside patio
