I agree with Creative Loafing: best thai food!

by jessicabcd at Citysearch

My boyfriend and I dined here yesterday, and we had the pleasure of being served by Santi. We shared the chicken satay, and while it was incredibly tender and delicious, we thought the four small sticks of chicken were kind of pricey at $7. I had the somtum-green papaya salad, and it was one of the best dishes I have ever eaten. My boyfriend had the gang-panang chicken, which was also wonderful, but we thought the portion was somewhat small for the price. Also, it did not come with rice, and a small bowl of it costs $3.

  • Pros: service, flavors
  • Cons: small portions on some items

Don't go it's not worth it

by neel4 at Citysearch

My husband & I went for lunch on Tuesday. I was hoping they would have lunch specials, but they didn't. We had Gang-Khew-Whan & Pad-Bai-Ho-Ra-Par. The Gang-Khew was really bad (it had a weird flavor). The Pad was ok but still not great enough to visit again..Go to Surin they have awesome thai food. We were going to go there but last minute opted for Tamarind..oh how I wish I went to Surin instead...

not for business

by mike11111 at Citysearch

It was my first time eating at Tamarind seed; one of my friends recommends it, he said that it was good for business meeting. After reading all the review in magazines and all the recommendation from my friend, I decided to take my client for a lunch meeting there. Unfortunately it turned out to be a whole experience of embarassement!! I guess my hope is too high for that place. The only good thing about tamarind is only the décor. The service was ok and the food was too slow. But the most embarrassing is when we saw the host hold customer hand in front of the bar and left the other customers walk in. they were flirting and huging each other. I was ashamed for the owner because no one in the restaurant seemed really care about it. Being put in that possition, the only thing that I can do is to make an akward jokes about that. I do not recommend this place for your business meeting. You can take your money to a better place to get better food and service. It was a ripped off and the staffs are ill-manered and not proffesional.

  • Cons: food too slow

rude service

by gwen99 at Citysearch

We had lunch at Tamarind seed last monday, we sat on one of the round tables. In the beginning, everything went great until I notice that our server was chewing gum the whole time she wait on us!!! I can't believe it!! I have been a huge fan of Tamarind; the food and the service had been great before this. The fact that our server was chewing gum, even when she talked to us was really disrespectful. I can't believe something like this happened in a restaurant esp. tamarind.

  • Pros: food, ambiece
  • Cons: service, parking

Best Thai food I've ever had!!

by sviks at Citysearch

I love Thai food and have favorites for specific dishes throughout Atlanta, but EVERYTHING we had at Tamarind Seed (steamed rolls, papaya salad, noodles & curry) was AWESOME! It's a tad pricey, but the food was so good that we thought it was worth it! The restaurant could do with a better ambiance - it's a little crowded, but given that they moved into an existing restaurant space, there's probably not much they can do about it. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this restaurant to anyone who likes Thai food.

  • Pros: The food is to die for!
  • Cons: Ambience not as nice as other restaurants in that price range (ex. Nan)

where's the food?

by lalababy at Citysearch

I went here with my expectations way too high. The portions were way too small. I think I could've eaten 2 entrees. I shared a spring roll appetizer and had the duck penang curry which was not very filling. The rice serving was equivalent to a large ice cream scoop. The food was tasty, but the spring rolls looked like 2 rolls sliced into 4 pieces. Luckily it was my birthday and my food was paid for by friends. I wouldn't say this place is a waste of money, but for the price you pay, you should be getting more food. Our servers were constantly confused on what my group and I ordered. We kept receiving the wrong plates. For a birthday, I didn't really enjoy the restaurant that much.

  • Pros: good food, nice scene
  • Cons: food portions, too dark, service

overpriced food, small portions, intrusive staff

by lawgrl07 at Citysearch

i went to tamarind this weekend expecting it to be delicious food. i didn't mind paying the higher price for thai food but the food was subpar. i had the pad kee mow noodles, they lacked flavor and was so spicy it was hard to eat. overall the food was overpriced for the amount and quality of food they give you. my friend had the panang curry, which was very good. but the amount of rice they give you in the small dishes is equivalent to about 5 teaspoons. in addition, the staff was constantly asking us if any more of our friends would be joining us, and immediately started rearranging the seating as soon as we said they were not. the staff was also very unapologetic when they forgot to put tofu in a vegetable dish and said that it "might be" their fault that it was not included. i will never go here again, there are plenty of higher quality, affordable thai restaurants in atlanta - try spoon, rama5, or sbydee.

  • Pros: nice ambiance
  • Cons: overpriced food, small portions, intrusive staff

Best Thai in the city!

by pdsmith11803 at Citysearch

I recen'ty started working across the street at Norfolk Southern and decided to take my wife out for dinner one night. Now I am trying to figure out what I can plan to get us out of the place on the weekends. The food is awesome, I have yet to have a meal that I didn't enjoy. Tia food is such that you either like it or you don't. But for those Thai lovers you can't go wrong. There is no canned crud happening in this place. You feel like you just stepped off the plane and are enjoying the real deal.

Enjoy!

  • Pros: Best Thai for the $
  • Cons: Not everyone speeks fluent english but it's authentic...Just point.
