This is by far my favorite restaurant in the ATL. So convenient and well located. Cesar is the best, thanks for the coupons, I still have some.
Not sure about the animals and the condition the are though.
- Pros: food, 24 hours
- Cons: animals
Not Worth It

It had been a while since I had visited R. Thomas. I was embarrassed when I recommended it for lunch with some co-workers.
First, $20 for lunch isn't reasonable when healthy food isn't as hard to get as it used to be, not to mention economic conditions. Secondly, the portions were minuscule -- ordered chips and salsa "crumbs n red stuff" and my salad might have had 3 leaves of lettuce (the saucer it was served on couldn't make it appear any larger). Finally, the food wasn't that tasty. My smoothie tasted watered down when compared to Arden's Garden and it was more expensive.
There just isn't an excuse for R. Thomas when there are other options. They need to adjust or they'll meet the fate of their neighbors.
- Pros: Disappoiting
- Cons: Price, Portions, Quality
Good food, recently gone downhill

Basically an old hippie restaurant, R Thomas Deluxe Grill has been a favorite of mine for a couple of years now. It has a great atmosphere, the building is cool, and it's almost like entertainment to watch the variety of people that enter and leave. I started going around when I became fully vegetarian two years ago, and am now vegan. I've consistently been able to bring family and friends who weren't as meat-unfriendly as I and seen them leave happy and full. There are really only a few places around you can get raw cashew nut cheese or cultured veggies and raw root vegetable salad, with a big smoothie of pear juice mixed with mango, dates, local organic bee pollen, and honey. How amazing does that sound?! Well, they have 30 juices and smoothies to choose from, and even just stopping in to get one is worth it, on a late night or whenever. Did you know it's open 23 or so hours a day?
However, recently R Thomas has reduced its portions AND raised its prices. This is coming straight from a person who works there. The quality has gone downhill somewhat in the last months, as well. Note, they have a few servers that are very experienced and have been there a long time. Don't be surprised by apathy. The kind of people that come into a 24-hour restaurant in the middle of Atlanta make life difficult for these people. Tip well, they deserve it, whether you know it or not. And the parking lot is terrible. At least they have plenty of it, though.
All that said, I'm planning on going this afternoon. It's still great, unique food and worth the traffic you'll endure on Peachtree.
- Pros: One-of-a-kind dishes, great for vegans, vegetarians, and all
- Cons: Sometimes bad service, recently reduced portions, parking
Rude Employee

I went to R Thomas to eat one afternoon and was waited on by a waiter named James. He was very rude and disrespectful to myself and everyone in my party. I would never in my life go to a place where the service was so poor and the waitstaff would be allowed to treat customers in such a rude way. Anyone going there should know that they aren't paying for the quality of food they are paying for the public humiliation of being treated badly by their employees.
I had to rate them one star since this wont allow me to give them zero, but really the service warrants no stars.
- Pros: none
- Cons: Horrible service and rude waiter
Bodacious Birds! Terrific Food!

"Pay close attention to the unusual collection of parrots and other birds that reside in cages just outside the front door. Your eyes will behold a feast of colors from the wild decor that covers the entrance way. Your ears will be soothed by the pleasant sounds of water cascading from the fountain. The non-stop conversational hum that echos across the covered heated patio stems from the ever flowing parade of individuals from all walks of life who amble in through the door. You may be surprised by the simple table setting of card tables and plastic patio chairs, but don't let that stop you. People flock here for one thing, and one thing only: THE FABULOUS FOOD!! Yerba Mate tea, Edimame, the Thai bowl, corn-potato chowder, baked wings, various pastas, cashew cheese dip, Thai basil wraps, Portobello burger, fresh fruit smoothies/shakes, vegan cakes! If this starts you salivating, then head down Peachtree Road to your new home!"
- Pros: Ample free parking, open late nights
- Cons: plastic patio chairs low to the ground, small card tables
Management is of the poorest quality

Good food but the manager hates the customers. God forbid you ask them to hold a cake over night.
Great Late Night Hangout

I have spent many late nights at R. Thomas. It was open 24 hours before late night dining became fashionable. They were the first. Their food is solid and good; truly reliable. The atmosphere is funky and eclectic and a little cramped, but adds to the friendly feeling and vibe that the place gives off. The wait staff are courteous and can be as wild as some patrons. When you're at R. Thomas you feel like you're home and in a really relaxed environment. The patio as an ambiance that is also very unique and that outside quality puts you right in midtown with a great city feel. This is the best 24 hour place in the city.
unique, great location, best juice in town, a little pricey

I love the eccentric patio atmosphere - it's very different than any other restaurant in the area. The parking is free, it's 24 hours, the staff is friendly, and my service has always been good. I'm still confused as to why there are birds in cages at a restuarant (it seems like it would be a violation of health codes or something), but then again, they are only located outside of the front door, away from the seating area. Their menu caters to a wide variety of people including your meat-eaters, veggies, and vegans. All the meat is free-range and all of the food is organic. The story of how they 'came to be' on their menu is actually worth reading. Do try their juices - they are all fresh-squeezed! Occationally they will run out of some of the fruits/veggies used to squeeze the juice, but there are plenty of other juice choices on the menu. I would say their only downfall is pricing - it is a little more pricey than I expected, but I think the healthy food and environment is worth it. Overall, I definitely recommend dining there.
- Pros: 24 hrs, free parking, atmosphere, friendly staff, healthy food
- Cons: pricey
I'm really trying to love this place.

I have been here time and time again hoping I will find something on the menu I can come here for. The edamame has always been a little mushy, the veggie burger was as well. It's great that it is open 24 hours and that is usually the main reason I go here. The cluttered atmosphere is unique and I love it...however, considering the restaurant is known for organic entrees and vegetarian options, I really feel bad for toucan sam and friends that seem to have been in small cages outside for years now. Hopefully, PETA members don't come here for their vegetarian food. The value isn't all that great and maybe one day I will find something on the menu I can't live without, until then, I say average. The idea is cool, but I just simply don't feel it is all it is made up to be.
- Pros: Patio, cluttered charming atmosphere, hours
- Cons: food, poor birds, hiking mountain parking lot.
Really it's a bargain by Ingrid R. at InsiderPages

Some reviewers say that the food is pricey, but seriously for the quality, it is a bargain. I have eaten in a lot of expensive restaurants and often I wish, I had saved my money and gone to R Thomas. And the slow service comment, even at Mac Donald's you have to wait for your food!
