Great Neighborhood Dessert/Coffee House Cafe-Beware of Disgruntled Former Employee Revview!

by atlcuisineguy at Citysearch

I've lived in the Brookwood neighborhood the past eight years, and always take out of town guests to Cafe Intermezzo, for a late night coffee and dessert. I'm quite distrubed by a posting below, from a disgruntled former emplyee, SixF15Bear. It's the only review by this person, when you log-on their name. And I have written dozens of truthful reviews. The cafe is always packed after 10:00pm. So it's the lively place to be, and they have managed to hold their prices, even with this economy. I've personally met the owner, Brian Wilson, and what a caring, charming person he is. He welcomes everyone personally. The desserts are fantastic. And the selection is huge. We ordered a mammoth hot chocolate w/Nutella, with our dessert, and we were in heaven. Love the international music. Nothing else in Atlanta like this.

  • Pros: Great Desserts/Coffee, Cool International Music & Personal Manager!
  • Cons: Gets Super Crowded Late At Night!

More Than Just The Finest Dessert's In The City!

by jasonlgreene at Citysearch

I guess I first became a fan of Cafe Intermezzo back in the early eighties, when a friend took me to Park Place. And having lived in Brookwood/S.Buckhead the last few years, I would only run in, and get one of those out of the world desserts to go, at the Peachtree location. But last week, a friend and myself decided to stop in for dinner. What a charming little cafe menu, and at very affordable prices. We shared an app. of Baked Baby Brie with almonds and served with a raisin-walnut bread and apple slices. Absolutely delicious, and was followed by a lucious Greek Salad for two, with Romaine hearts, tomatoes, Kalamata olives, red onions, and served with fresh French Bread. Before our entree's arrived, the General Manager, Michael May, stopped by our table to see if everything was going well. Normally you don't see management that early in the evening, but his warm hospitality only previewed the wonderful entrees on the way. For me, it was the Linguine Alfredo w/Grilled Chicken, and my date had the Italian Gnocchi, with mushrooms in a lemon-rosemary cream sauce, topped with parmesan cheese. It was all wonderful, and those prices. No wonder so many young couples were dining, at these affordable levels.. Of course the ending was the best. I had the moist Chocolate Almond Cake w/Marzipan filling. My date had the Bosco, a torte made with assorted fresh berries and a custard filling. And we both had expresso from the beautiful Cafe Intermezzo Expresso Machine, designed and commissioned by Brian Olson, the owner. And Mr.Olson, himself, personally stopped by the table, to make sure we had a most enjoyable experience. If you want to experience an Atlanta tradition, come here. It dosen't get any better.

  • Pros: Delightful Space, Wonderful Food, Dessert's From Heaven, & Management That Really Cares!

Great Omelettes!

by ds100 at Citysearch

My family was in town and we decided that after club and bar hopping in Buckhead to catch a bite to eat and Cafe Intermezzo was on the radar from my brother's experience from years prior. Immediately I was turned on by the the trendy, european cafe' look and ambience and there was no wait for seating. A few celebrities faces were in the place that night which made me feel like this was the "IT spot" to eat. Were else can you go and get gourmet coffee and omelettes @ 1230 at night! The omelete I ordered had spinach, cheese, mushrooms and tasted so good I almost ordered another one. And I came in no that hungry. 2 thumbs up! 1st class food and service!

  • Pros: Breakfast at anytime
  • Cons: Small confined building and seating

Delicious desserts and coffee

by gilthoniel at Citysearch

I love this place because it is open so late! My friends and I have typically gone around 12:30 to 1 AM and remained until closing. Love the chocolate cake/cheescake combo that I have had there twice....I have never been disappointed with any of the coffee/espresso drinks. The atmosphere is fantastic! Candle lit and yet still bustling so that you have privacy while feeling like you are in the midst of something exciting. It would be very easy to have a romantic date here. The service is only ok...a little slow and sometimes grumpy but I guess I would be grumpy at 1 AM if I had to work. This is a must-visit spot for anyone living in Atlanta long term.

Great late night desert bar and well worth the wait!

by bob07 at Citysearch

Cafe Intermezzo off of Peachtree in Atlanta was great: Food, service, wait for seating, everything.

We went to Cafe Intermezzo after a movie and discovered they were still on an hour wait. But instead of giving us one of those clunky restaurant pagers, they had a very cool wait management system that I had to ask about because it really helped keep us at the restaurant instead of going some place else. They used a system by Queuent that called us on our mobile phones when seating was available. So even though we had to wait an hour, we didn't have to wait at the bar and window shopped around the local stores while we waited. When we were called (after about 50 minutes ofwaiting), we were at the other end of the shopping center but the system let us delay by 15 minutes. When we returned to Cafe Intermezzo they sat us at the very next table.

For being on an hour wait, the restaurant didn't seem that crowded but all the tables were full and everything was very smooth and easy to navigate. The server greeted us at our table and was very professional. We ordered drinks while we looked over a very well designed menu. The drinks were served within a few minutes and we ordered the cheesecake - A great late night treat in my opinion.

All in all, a great casual night out for my wife and I. Highly recommended for a dinner + movie + dessert night. And being able to walk around instead of standing in a crowded restaurant waiting for a table, really kept the evening going.

  • Pros: Great late night desert bar. Beautiful Eurpoean cafe ambiance
  • Cons: Lots of smokers crowding the entrances to the restaurant.

  • Cons: Crowded on weekends
