Great Place to take the Family
by Shytown
My family and I enjoyed the day at the museum, the exhibition is always changing.
The children enjoyed seeing the Dinosaurs and the Children's Interactive room. I enjoyed seeing the fish and shells display. We all had a ball learning about the Arctic and Antarctica along with the Polar Bears and the Penguins.
- Pros: Something for all ages

Great setting but not a great museum
by decaturmark
Sorry to say I have to agree with earlier posters who expect to see a world class history museum and are entirely let down after paying the enterence fee. Yes, the Fernbank boasts a beautifully natural setting. What it does not offer is any type of insightful or intriguing displays, nothing to really draw a visitor in to the vast learning experience that should be offered here. If it were a free museum, I'd call it a draw and enjoy the nice drive up the winding hill and beautiful scenery on the grounds. But it's not and the curator here should really examine what he or she is trying to do.
- Pros: spectacular setting
- Cons: overall, a real let down
Great Wedding Facility
by mlj528
I love Martinis & IMAX & had to write a review after seeing the fantastic grand canyon one. Martinis & Imax is a perfect date night- especially with the live music & cocktails before the show. I?ve been several times since moving to Atlanta and it's one of my top favorite activities in the city.
I actually just attended a beautiful wedding at Fernbank- who knew Fernbank was an ideal location for a wedding ceremony and reception?! The wedding was at the front of the museum overlooking the front lawn, and the reception was in the huge foyer which was perfect for the band & food setup- the bride & groom entered the reception down the gorgeous winding staircase. The band had a perfect setup towards the back of the foyer. I highly recommend Fernbank to any bride-to-be looking for an awesome place to have the wedding & reception.
- Pros: Great event facility & museum
- Cons: Wish Martinis & Imax was on Saturdays too
Atlanta can do better in terms of a natural history museum
by lagirl3000
this is a very unfortunate representation of a natural history museum. were are the exhibits? one very large dinosaur skeleton and that about raps up your visit. I am disturbed by the lack of artifacts and exhibits especially after having grown up with natural history museums found in Chicago and Cleveland to base a comparison on. is it lack of funding that prevented this from being a world class natural history museum? I say atlanta should really be able to command better.
- Pros: beautiful building
- Cons: lack of exhibits, attractions, over priced
Giant creatures of prehistoric times tower over local natural history displays.
by Erin Behan
The Scene
The architecture of the 160,000-square-foot museum, located in regal Druid Hills, might be the best attraction. The stunning use of space, on par with Meier's High Museum, culminates in a towering skylight overlooking Fernbank Forest.
The Collection
With its permanent exhibit, "Giants of the Mesozoic," Fernbank became the first museum in the world to assemble a collection of the world's largest dinosaurs. Beyond the ferocious beasts menacing visitors in the 86-foot-tall Great Hall, the exhibit, "A Walk Through Time in Georgia," re-creates the Earth's natural history with a local twang, using Georgia's landscape, vegetation, wildlife and fossils. It's a taxidermy wonderland for kids, but a yawn compared to the Sensing Nature exhibit. Tykes buzz around this science-made-fun playground of optical illusions and natural phenomena. If you're with the little ones, also check out the Georgia Adventure and Fantasy Forest; if not, head for the academic Cultures of the World.
Great Date Night
by foodie513
I recently went here on a date night. The martinis and live music were great! The Imax theater after a few cocktails is a fun experience. I recommend it to anyone to give it a try.
Great for weddings!
by atlanta08
I went to a wedding and this place was incredible. There is so much to look at and see here. This place can also be romantic if you have wine before IMAX. I highly recommend taking kids here also.
- Pros: everything, wine, exhibits, staff,
- Cons: nothing
Take the kids it's worth the trip
by dbell26
I have to admit that my wife made me go to the museum and I thought it would be awful! When we got there she made us become members of the museum so we would have free admission and other perks the next time we visited the museum. Much to my surprise it was pretty cool and the kids really enjoyed theirselves as they learned about history and nature. The membership has more than paid for it's self since we have been 3 times this year. The events are really nice and I would recommend the Imax movies.
- Pros: Great events and fun for the whole family
- Cons: None

Fernbank is a wonderful place to take visitors to our city. The IMAX films are always awesome. We have enjoyed many of the exhibits over the years and found them to be very entertaining and educational.
