Excellent Food, Horrible Chairs
by rappaport at Citysearch
I've been to Sotto Sotto twice - the first time, sat in booth along wall. A companion sitting in chair said "whoever selected these chairs should be shot." Undeterred, we had a great and very expensive meal with all courses and wine. The second visit, I entertained out of town friends. The 5 of us were very very cramped along an aisle and we all suffered in those horrible chairs, yelling at each other in order to be heard. I don't see a return visit in my future, except for maybe takeout.
- Pros: Excellent Food
- Cons: Horrible chairs, expensive, loud
Best Italian in Atlanta
by LRBuckhead at Citysearch
On the recommendation of a friend from Italy I went here with several girlfriends from work and we thought the food was fantastic! It was great place for a girls' night out and it looks like it would be a nice spot for a romantic dinner unless you are seated at one of the many banquettes which seem to be much too close together -- like your earting with the couple next to you! We didn't have that problem and had a great time. Try the amazing risotto -- best I've ever had.
- Pros: great authentic Italian food
- Cons: banquette seating is too close together
Very Good Italian Food but no reason to rush back
by neatomosquito at Citysearch
So after exhaustive research I've decided the question is how soon I'd go back. Would I decide that despite all the other great untried restaurants popping up daily in Atlanta that I'd rather go back to this one? Answer-nope. That doesn't mean this place wasn't without merit. We actually had a nice dining experience. So here's what I liked. Well, I liked the food. It was hearty Italian fare. The seafood risotto, the acid test for many was delicious. The special, wild boar with pasta was very good. Antipasto Misti was yummy. Dessert; ricotta cheesecake not so good. Ricotta is a subtle taste to begin with and this recipe destroyed it. The wine list was also good. Oh, portions were good. Many people were taking stuff home as did we. Service? Our waitperson was really good and trying really hard not to appear rushed but he definitely was. And, even with a reservation we were seated at a very small table near the door which I didn't like. Ambience was nice but average. So do you see what I mean? Really good food but just not such a great dining experience that I'd forgo giving some other highly rated restaurant a pass.
- Pros: Good Food
- Cons: In sum, an average dining experience
Best Italian since I've been home from Italy!
by HilaryIrvine at Citysearch
I spent a summer in Italy and have struggled to find truly "authentic" Italian since my return. Sotto Sotto knocked my socks off! Hands down best risotto I've had, and my friend's duck ragu was incredible! The wine list could be overwhelming, but included wine from the region I stayed in in Italy by the glass! Everything from the bread and oil served to the ricotta cheesecake was impressive and delicious!
- Pros: Best Italian I've had since Italy.
- Cons: The staff were a bit pretentious, but our server was superb!

Don't Waste Your Time or Money

Met another couple for an important evening, which started with an argument with the hostess about seating. We were on time for our 7 PM reservation and even though the restaurant was largely empty, the hostess insisted on putting us at the worst table near the door and in the busiest aisle. We said we would wait in the bar for some of the other vacant tables to "open-up." Once seated at a previously unoccupied table, we found the waiter knew little about the non-descript wine list and had no recommendations about the menu selections. We soon learned why. Each one of us ordered a different entree and not one of them was a pleasant experience. The portions were very small, the presentation was cafeteria-like; and, above all else, the flavors fell far short of frozen dinners. The whole fish special that was to have been filleted at the table showed-up as a small pile of fish bones with some interlaced fish. When told it was unacceptable, the waiter sent a manager over to the table to say they were sorry (but they were not taking it off our bill). The four of us left a quarter of a thousand dollars poorer and still hungry. The only action that could improve this restaurant would be to close it.
- Pros: Couldn't Name One
- Cons: This place is open and other unsuspecting patrons will pay for this dining experience
Casual but elegant atmosphere and excellent food

Seated right before they closed on a slow weekday night. Server was professional friendly but very limited knowledge of wine list and apps. Wine list is very extensive, but a decent bottle (one I couldn't buy at publix for $9.99) starts around $65. We had the risotto, which was incredibly creamy and delicious, salads (house greens excellent, caesar marginal), and fish and lamb for entrees (which were prepared perfectly). Entrees are larger than expected, food excellent, service quiet and not interruptive (kudos!). Server patiently waited on us, though restaurant was closing, and pleasantly thanked us and welcomed back.
Definitely will go back for special occasion. Our bill came to about $140, which was a bit more expensive than we expected. In comparison to horrible food and service at Fritti next door, Sotto Sotto is a unique and well-run restaurant.
- Pros: Excellent food and service
- Cons: pricey wine list, mediocre salads
Great service, good food
by blm2005 at Citysearch
The service was great. Our server knew the menu well and was able to make informed recommendations for food and wine. The antipasto dish and the pastas were delicious. The risotto with the balsamic vinegar was wonderful. The only downfall was the duck breast, which by the way our server did not recommended (perhaps intentionally). My jaw got a work out. The flavor was good (although the end pieces tasted a little charred) but it was extremely tough. Overall, I will definitely go back but I will stick to the pastas dishes.

Had good drinks and foods themself are not so bad ,,,however,,, tableware/dinner plates and foods are not to go togather. Those made food less tastey. They are,,something wrong for their food.
