I have lived in Atlanta for a collective ten plus years and I am very familiar with different gyms here in town...so I will give a fair review. I first visited Fitness Factory in 1998. The gym equipment was old and limited and the locker room was dingy and odorous. I made an effort to ask the staff thorough questions about programs, etc., they seemed unenthusiastic and acted as if I was burdening them with my questions. They were also unwilling to give me a good price for a membership. I decided that everyone should have a second chance. So, nearly ten years later I returned to see if things had changed. The gym equipment was the same old, unsafe equipment I used ten years previously. The locker rooms were still dingy and the staff unfriendly. How this gym has remained operational is amazing. I suppose given the gay guys who like to travel from gym to gym to cruise it gives them more options. However, quality and quantity of equipment lacking and fussy staff aside, it is centrally located. If you want a large gym, with lots of gay boys and care not for state of the art equipment, get a membership at L.A. Fitness Ansley. Otherwise, if you're looking for a wide range of classes; clean, new equipment, locker room surfaces you wouldn't be afraid to touch for fear of contracting a disease...checkout newer gyms like Gravity or Urban Bodies. They are centrally located and larger. Of course, don't take my word for it, you be the judge.

These guys are great. Very relaxed atmosphere. Great classes. Tons of weights (if you're into that). I've done the LA Fitness thing along with other gyms in-town and I've finally found a place that gives me everything I need with TONS of parking!!!!!
Pros: Tons of parking, great classes, friendly staff
Cons: no steam room/suana

I absolutely love this gym because of its complete lack of a hetero-male vibe. There are a lot of gorgeous gay men there and, unlike some other gyms, they do not look at you as though you are some kind of pathetic breeder invading their territory. Instead, it is a very civil, pleasant and non-threatening environment. No need to put on makeup or worry about putting on a cute outfit if you are a girl (though they appreciate it when you do). Just go there and enjoy good classes, nice teachers and a convenient location. The person who talked about the midtown location being "bare bones" is just wrong, in my opinion. The women's locker room is nicely maintained, lots of nice soaps and locations, etc - a lot less bare boned then some chain guyms I've been to in town. I really love this gym.
Pros: location, vibe
Cons: not good if you are a straight girl looking to score

Fitness Factory promotes its membership and trainer rates as affordable, but if you take the time to research other gyms and trainers, you will find their rates are only slightly less for seriously less quality. The trainer I signed up with showed up to our first appointment 10 minutes late and was distracted and ABSOLUTELY indifferent. I was put through a workout that wasn't even vaguely personalized to my needs or goals (which he never bothered to ask about anyhow) with an emphasis on strenuous, NOT effective exercise. The East Atlanta location is a total disaster, complete with snotty staff that would like to run the gym as if it were an exclusive Miami hotspot, turning away people they deem not their type (e.g., not cute, cruisey males), DESPITE THE FACT THE GYM IS COMPLETELY EMPTY. The midtown location is bare-bones to the point of being very unappealing and unattractive. Locker rooms are a step above public restrooms.
Pros: locations
Cons: just about everything

Great space, great equipment. I couldn't be happier. The staff is friendly; the owner and manager are frequently visible and approachable. Weights are ALWAYS where they are supposed to be; equipment is clean. GREAT location if you like to run in the park before or after your workout. The best atmosphere of any gyms I've tried in that area.
Pros: NOT over crowded, staff, energy/feel

Great gym, comfortable atmosphere, good people. Have been a member for many years and plan to be so for many more.

I have been a member there for a number of years and I love the real neighborhood gym feel. People of all types go there; they are serious, but in a positive way, not pushy, but encouraging. Best of all, it is a fun place to go. I love the classes and the trainers. I started as a very out of shape guy, and Fitness Factory helped to change my health completely. I get my friends and family to go there and they have not been disappointed. I really love access to Piedmont Park and running in the Spring!
Pros: staff, classes, members

A really cool space right next to Piedmont Park. After exercising my dog at the dog-park, we walk down a path to the gym and have a "South Pacific" smoothie. My dog loves socializing with the other dogs, while me and my friends work out. The music and atmosphere are fun, the staff is eager to help and answer questions. There is an excellent selection of equipment available for everyone from the pro-bodybuilder to the active housewife. But the best part is that the rates are affordable and there is no pressure from anyone!
Pros: energetic atmosphere, excellent location/pk, friendly members/staf

The best atmosphere for a workout. Great members! The energy in this gym is GRRREEATT. The staff is very friendly and makes you feel so welcome. it's such a diverse crowd from serious bodybuilders to First-timers. The classes are great. I think the best thing about this gym is the building space---lot's of sunshine and high ceilings. The parking is great. Being by Piedmont Park is a great advantage. The people who go there make it what it is too! I love it!
Pros: atmosphere, parking, staff
Cons: none

Great place to work out and great instructors. I moved out of the area but still drive back in town for the classes. Friendly atmosphere sure beats large, corporate chain gyms.
Pros: size, staff, parking
