Found this bar over the summer. My summer of walking. Great bar food and good list of well priced beers. good with groups and for being on Ponce, a great front porch feel The crowd is friendly and the place lives up to the name
Pros: food
Cons: crowded

This is a fun bar. It's a down to earth bar with very little Buckhead style conversation. The bartenders have been around for a while and you never know where a conversation might end up. The jam packed night is wed for trivia so if you like that kind of thing then this is your night. Good food. Go there and drink.

I really like The Local good food good drinks and polite. Trivia night is the best in town. It's much more fun, comfortable and classy than there neighbor across the street.
Pros: Fun spot
Cons: I don't know any

If you like weird and occasionally crowded bars this is a place for you to drink. Stick to be PBR or you will end up with a ridiculous bar tab, just like me. The DJ spun some Triple Six and it was all good.
Pros: Delicous Food and Lots of Atmosphere.

the ONLY bar in Georgia where they get bar food right. They have unmarked tubes of sauces(one which even the greatest of palates cannot decipher), the greatest deal on Pabst Blue Ribbon( 3 bucks for a 24 oz. can), and waitresses/bartendresses that are so adorbale and hot(and taken), as a guy you wish you were gay, and as a gal you wish you were gay(it makes sense)....just be sure to ask for Colleen to make fun of ya and eat three bales of free popcorn!
Pros: The bar-scent of awesomeness
Cons: parking on wednesdays, fridays, and saturdays(blame it on MJQ)

This past weekend, after a terrible steak dinner with a visiting friend from NYC, I told him, let's go to Ponce, for the otherside look of Atlanta. Down to the basement of the Clairmont Lounge. He thought I was crazy. Then I introduced him to Blondie, and he knew I was crazy. Afterwards, I told him I was not through with him yet. We walked into The Local, for a tall, cold can of PBR. He wanted a glass, I told him, not in here. First thing, was an order of the Belgian Fries, in wax paper, with a little malt vinegar on top. My friend, could not stop eating them. They are terrific, drunk or not. He had a chopped BBQ pork sandwich, and I ordered the babyback ribs. I think he is still licking his fingers, all the way back to NYC.
Pros: The Ultimate Neighborhood Beer Bar, Fries, & Que!
Cons: Parking can be a little confusing at first, Safe!

Just adding a newer review to say that I think it's more crowded these days than when the previous reviews were written. Friday & Saturday nights, at least when I've been there, have been elbow-to-elbow and pretty noisy.
Pros: Friendly staffers, mostly
Cons: Parking is cramped

The Local has a great laid back atmosphere and the drinks are cheap. The regulars and bartenders are friendly and that really sets this place apart for me. Drinks are cheap and the super-sized PBR cans rule. My only question for the owners is where's the Ms. Pac Man???
Pros: Cheap Drinks, Atmosphere, Good Crowd
Cons: no Pac man

You won't find better chopped BBQ in Atlanta in my opinion: the meat is fresh, you get a choice of 6 sauces, and the portions are generous. The hush puppies are little but extremely good. I always get an extra side of the puppies! The burgers are pretty good, but nothing to write home about. Unless you just have to have a burger, stick with ribs or chopped BBQ. The service is excellent: they don't pester you, but they don't ignore you either. The draft is always great.
Pros: food, atmosphere, outdoor eating avail.
Cons: not open for lunch

this place was better in the days before trivia and karaoke nights, but i suppose they were having trouble paying the bills. however, the service is much much better than it was in those days even though it is 10x more crowded.
