I was a Cheff in my past life.

by Phiasco at Citysearch

Last weekend was my first time dropping in after "AMERICA I AM". Lunch was great family of 3 and we spent 30 bucks including tip. Mac n Cheese off the hinges with out the foolishness. The food was great not greasy and easy on the tummy. For the ones posting the negatives we should be blessed that there is a spot we can get food with luv.

MCKYDEEZ!

  • Pros: Starter salad was refreshing!
  • Cons: Overlooked the place several times!

Vegetarian HEAVEN!!

by JaneBeee at Citysearch

I can't believe I just got around to trying this place!! There could be nothing better for people who grew up eating meat and miss a lot of those "home cooking" flavors. The whole menu is vegan, yet the macaroni and cheese was creamier than any I've ever had. The collard greens were mild and tender. I will be back within the week!!

  • Pros: Food, service, value
  • Cons: Haven't found any yet

Amazing

by whitneykemper at Citysearch

I happened upon this place while I stayed at the Highland Inn next door (which is also amazing, I might add). Being a vegetarian and living in the South, my dining options are oftentimes limited so I was immediately drawn to the name "Soul Vegetarian". The place had a great vibe, very relaxed, and everyone was really friendly. After 7 years of vegetarianism, I took the plunge into becoming a vegan in February so I was very pleased to see that everything on the menu is 100% vegan. Everything is handmade and their wheat gluten meat substitutes are delicious (as was everything else). They even make soy ice cream which I tried even though I've never liked any soy ice cream I've tried, but it was actually really good! If you're a vegetarian and you're in Atlanta, you gotta check this place out!

  • Pros: 100% vegan, good location, delicious, great service, relaxed atmosphere
  • Cons: why isn't there one in Nashville?

The best of the best!

by RasL at Citysearch

Soul Veg definately puts a delicious spin on vegan eating. From the Live salad to the daily special you will never be disappointed. Even those who are not vegetarian will find something on the menu to enjoy! I highly recommend making this one of your regular eating spots as they do take time and care to prepare a meal that is good for your mind, body, and soul. Selah

  • Pros: Great food, Great people, Great service

Used To Be a Meat & 3, but Now You're a Vegan? -- You'll Love It!!!

by layliphillips at Citysearch

One of the things that makes Atlanta unique is places like Soul Veg. We are internationally known as a hip, cool, soul-inflected city, where Southern meets cosmopolitan like nowhere else on Earth. Soul Veg is part of what makes this reputation a reality. Unpretentious, as all good Southern diner or dive style restaurants should be, with homestyle food that gives a nod to both comfort and nutrition, and run by good-hearted people with a good story behind their name -- this is the standard. And Soul Veg meets it. Their vegan macaroni and cheese is world famous, like it or not (I love it!). Their greens are straightforward and reliable; I usually order a double serving. They know how to do barbecue sauce, even on tofu. Cornbread, candied yams, and an assortment of vegetables round out your plate for the traditional feel. For the more "health food" types, there are other options from seaweed salad to lentil soup to the "Garvey Burger." And don't forget the ice kream -- completely dairy free. Admittedly, Soul Veg isn't for everybody, but if you are a vegetarian or vegan -- or even a veg-curious carnivore -- who has made the rounds and knows the highs and lows of vegetarian dining, you'll be singing "Hallelujah!"

  • Pros: Uplifting, upbeat music is always playing, adding to the positive overall experience.
  • Cons: Parking is prohibited next to the building, but there's a lot across the street. Also, sometimes the ice kream contains hydrogenated vegetable fat -- check the ingredients if this matters to you.

Great food and super service, great little hide away!!

by calipeach57 at Citysearch

This place was great!!! I'm not a Vegetarian but was just trying something different. I had the 3 salad combo that was a mixture of seaweed salad, vegan tuna salad and potato salad it was soooo good and very filling. Oh yea I had on of the signature vanilla milk free shakes too it was yummy The staff was very attentive, and informative. It was a great value for the price, Its a cute little place tucked away in the cut and I can't wait to go back!!

  • Pros: great food, great price, great staff,
  • Cons: small place, may take a minute or 2 to find parking

Go for the food, not the ambience...

by Karumera78 at Citysearch

Went here on a Sunday for the first time with a friend who is trying to convert to a Vegan lifestyle. We arrived right as they were closing (according to the staff, they were "soooo closed") and decided to wait the two hours until they reopened at 5PM. Upon returning promptly at five, they were not open, but opened at 5:05 (not a problem). The place is a bit shabby - not in the shabby chic sort of way - but the booths were well kept and the place was warn. As was the service - I see that some have had bad service but it seems to be who you run into. Zakaur, our server, was really nice and talked to us about the menu and their food preparation methods.

I ordered the kalebone special (BBQ kalebone, mac & cheese, collards, cornbread) and my friend had the gyro platter (with fries). I was extra hungry so I ordered split pea soup as well. I couldn't finish everything, so I took some food home and ordered a special to go! It was that good. However, other than the fries, I don't think my friend enjoyed hers as much.

All in all, good food. Could have been warmer (collards were lukewarm). Mock mac & cheese was great! Stick to the "meat" & three and the soup. Fries & onion rings are good too.

Food is also pricier than I imagined - my meal came to 40 bucks!

  • Pros: "Meat" & three, service
  • Cons: Shabby restaurant

must have missed something.

by stevierocks87 at Citysearch

I was really looking forward to this after all the great reviews. I love southern/soul food and am semi-vegetarian, so I figured it was a perfect match. Not quite. The servers barely spoke to us and were on the phone, hardly "warm service". The main menu consists of a choice of entrees with 2 sides and a small salad, but you must pay $3.50 more, for a total of over $13, if you want cornbread with it. We opted out. The food was totally uninspired. Take some tofu out of the package, slather it with bottled bbq sauce, and that was my entree. The sweet potatoes tasted canned. I warmed up a little too the mac-and-cheese, but still wasn't too crazy about them. I was really hoping for a great experience but was disappointed. It was just not worth the money for school-cafeteria tasting food.

  • Pros: kind of cool retro building
  • Cons: poor value for the school cafteria-style food and service.

superb food AND service

by mstafkap at Citysearch

couldn't have asked for a better meal and service... i've been lacto-ovo 1 year and 3 months and have gone to several veg*n/raw food places since and i have to say, SV2 is the best... i literally drove past SVAbernathy (i live on the other end of cascade darn near to fulton industrial) to get to the one on Highland b/c of some of the reviews on here and i'm very glad i did and will definitely go again... i came in while they were closed (2 - 5pm on Sundays) and was greeted by a very nice lady that informed me of the hours, gave me the menu that i requested to view until they re-opened... had about an hour to to burn so i went to WholeFoods for the first time...anyway, when i returned, i was again greeted by a very warm and cheery man who promptly told me what was on the dinner menu and took my order and informed me that it would be ready in about 15 minutes... i ordered the barbeque meal with collards (my FAVE) and mac and cheese, side salad, and cornbread...i also ordered the rice dish with tofu (my fave at SVAbernathy)...

the meal was fabulous... the mac and cheese was so good, i ate it all first, salad was super refreshing and collards were just like i like them... the barbeque was 'ok', i'm not a big fan of meat substitutes (except the mock fish plate at SVAbernathy), but it was do-able, the sauce was pretty good... and the rice dish just keeps getting better and better... comparing this SV to the other, i WILL drive past the other every single time to get to this one b/c the West End neighborhood makes me uneasy, and the service was NOTHING compared to the one on Highland... no real warm greeting and the wait was noticeably longer... at SV2, my food was ready and in my hand when the young man said it would. the atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice, the decor was nice and music was very upbeat and appropriate...i HIGHLY recommend Soul Vegetarian 2/Highland Ave location.

  • Pros: Service, Food, Ambience, Parking...i could go on and on...
  • Cons: none really except i wish it were closer to my apt

godlike

by kikita at Citysearch

I'm a picky foodie -- Krog St. Bar is my other favorite Atlanta restaurant -- and this places consistently amazes me with their delicious, nutritious veggie food!

  • Pros: nutritious, stunningly delicious
  • Cons: ambience isn't all that, but it's fine for downhome, downscale
