I have visited highland tap on two occasions. Both times i had the filet and my husband had the strip. Their steaks are absolutely amazing!!! Cooked to perfection.
- Pros: great steaks, atmosphere
- Cons: parking
Better second time
by halindsey
We've been here before, and didn't really care for a bunch of appetizers we'd ordered the first time (risotto baIIs is the only one I can remember). The burger was good I think though.
Last weekend, our second trip, we ordered mussels as an app, and they were delicious. How can little succulent morsels of seafood floating in a garlic cream sauce with buttery garlic bread to sop it all up not be good? I'm sure it's possible, but not here.
Next we had a steak salad and the prime rib (queen cut). I was expecting a little tiny cut, but this thing was huge. And awesome. And it was the perfect done-ness (med rare).
The salad wasn't anything special, but wasn't bad either. The steak on it was a little tough, but cooked perfectly.
I ordered a cosmo, which was $12. They bring it out in two parts: the martini glass filled with cosmoliciousness, and a brandy sniffer type glass filled with ice and another small bottle filled with more martini (so you can refill later). I think all together it prolly equals 1.5 martinis since the glass is really small.
Anyways, the prime rib was the star of the show, and we'll be back just for it (and beer next time perhaps?)
- Pros: Really really really good prime rib, service good
- Cons: Martinis a little pricy at $12 a pop
Amazing, and it's close

My wife and I went there when she was pregant with both of our boys - red meat. That's how we knew we were having a boy the second time around.
Great food, big portions, love it always.
- Pros: Steak, Steak, Steak
- Cons: Smokey
Best bar food in ViHi

Oh, Highland Tap - how I love thee, let me count the ways:
One - dark (when thoust has drank too much of the golden ale fortnight, this place doesth provide a quiet place one can rest their weery head)
Two - people (herein lies a gaggle of familiar bretheren)
Three - onion rings (doest thou think an onion ring by any other name would smell as sweet? hell no!)
Thoust does love this wee pub - oy!
- Pros: Food, people-watching, dark
- Cons: Smokey
Must have been a BAD night!
by ScoutSophie
My husband and I visited this restaurant on a Saturday evening after doing some boutique shopping in the Highlands. We figured that since it had such great reviews it would be a safe bet. $60 later we were extremely disappointed! We both ordered soup...his was the WORST rendition of French Onion Soup I've ever tasted, it tasted way too peppery and the broth didn't have any flavor. Mine was a bland and cold version of Loaded Baked Potato Soup. I wasn't all that hungry so I decided to go with the Steak Salad....their steak is unseasoned and it was a bad cut of meat. The poor cut of meat may have been because it was on a salad but the steak alone without dressing or salad was not good....I don't think they season the steaks at all. My husband had the Seafood Risotto which was extremely rich and heavy but pretty good....so at least one thing in this meal was OK! The restaurant itself smelled of cleaning solution instead of food and that's when we should have turned around! The service was from a very impersonal and lazy server who visited our table only once after we got our food and walked at an extremely slow pace! There wasn't a large crowd so the reviews must be from the loyal bar customers not actual diners, or we went on a really bad night. This meal was awful and we will never go back nor would we advise anyone else to!
- Pros: Location
- Cons: Bland Food, Slow Service, Restaurant smelled like a hotel lobby, not a restaurant!
CONSISTENT and best all around
by AbFab1
Best neighborhood bar, great service, good bar food, AMAZING martinins. Always consistent. There is alot to be said for their bar staff that have all been there for at least 8 years or more. Especially in the restaurant industry. They know their regulars, they are good when they are busy, work well under pressure. If all else fails...default to the Tap - never disappointed.
- Pros: Staff, Food, service, consistency
- Cons: gets really crowded sometimes, esp if you just want to get food and not go for cocktails
Delicious!

I've been to Highland Tap many times as a customer of the "bar." For once, I decided to stay for dinner. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was great. The steak is one of the best I've had in Atlanta, and the appetizer I ordered was so original and so tasty! This was a spur of the moment dinner and will definitely be repeated! I'll be back for more delicious steaks and more enjoyable experiences. From what I hear, the brunch is the best deal in town. That will be my next adventure. Make sure you put Highland Tap on your list of places to try in Atlanta! Delish!
- Pros: Great service, amazing steaks, overall great experience
- Cons: None
Still Shakeing & Stirring The Highlands! Excellent Steaks!
by jaymaygm
The Tap is still tops in our book for the pefect Martini/Steak, in town. We love the cozy vibe, being in the cellar of an old retail block, at the corner of Virginia and Highland. The bartenders are masters of mixology. We just usually start at the bar with our Dirty Grey's up. Grab some of that wonderful Crab Dip, and leave the stress of the day behind. All the servers know us by name, and it's like seeing old friends. The filets, are some of the best in the city, along side the lettuce wedge, with their framous Bleu Cheese dressing. And get a side of the Onion Rings. This place is just a reliable standard.
- Pros: Excellent Steaks & Martinin's! Professional Staff!
- Cons: Parking could be a problem, if driving!
BEST escargot and Bloody Marys!
by arianne5p
Every time I am in the Highlands I always stop by the Tap for their incredible escargot, crab dip and Bloody Marys! I've never had escargot like theirs before, instead of being this slippery mess, its prepared with cheese and a puff pastry and it is to die for! I would also recomend the crab dip and prime rib! They have GREAT bloody mary's, they make their mix from scratch and even rim the glass with seasoned salt. Puts me in heaven!
- Pros: great drinks and food, good crowd
- Cons: sometimes hard to find a seat at the bar
