Terrible food and worse service
by atlantashedevil
Moe's and Joe's is your typical hole in the wall bar that offers lousy food that pretty much no one eats, but can get by from a few alcoholics and really cheap beer that draws poor college students who don't mind that it's been watered down. The atmosphere literally consists of a large open room lined with booths and a few lightly sprinkled decorations. Go to Moe's and Joe's if you are already drunk and just want to pay as little as possible for beer that you are too wasted to enjoy. The waiters and waitresses will be completely indifferent to your presence, but will occasionally resign themselves to providing you with more beer if you are insistent enough. I do not recommend subjecting yourself to Moe's and Joe's.
- Pros: Cheep beer if you don't mind that it has no taste
- Cons: Bad food, rude waiters, watery beer, and a crummy atmosphere
Comfy beer tavern

I've bean going to Moe's & Joe's since the '70's...it's not pretentious and the old scruffy decor is part of the charm....that person who complained is probably an only child nitwit from the burbs. ........Chicken Wings are great as is the other food offerings....I just wish they'd bring back the goose liver sandwich.....staff friendly and accomodating as much as one can expect considering the numerous brats and drunks they have to put up with. Great juke box and down home aura makes the Pabst and other brews go down good....great mixed drink bar next door for those wanting harder stuff.......I highly recommend this place to anybody looking for a great beer swilling environment....indeed.....later, Hollywood Don
- Pros: Fits like your favorite pair of broken in jeans
- Cons: No place for my cot in the attic
One of the best bars in Atlanta
by cyberliche
If your looking for a Buckhead kind of crowd, look elsewhere. This place has been in business for over 50 years and is a land mark in Atlanta. Most nights the crowds are in their 30s with the occasional person or couple that were coming here when they were at Emory 40 years ago. You won't find a nicer crowd anywhere in Atlanta. It get's a little rowdy tues, wed, & thurs when specials or trivia are going on thanks to the Emory crowd. Be forewarned though, this place only serves beer, but Arthur always pours a perfect pint. Come here a couple of times and it'll soon be your favorite place in Atlanta to drink and ice cold beer and relax.
- Pros: Atmosphere, COLD beer, Good bar food
- Cons: Smoking
Love it!
by redlorelei
My fiance took me here a few years a go for a date and it has become a local favorite of ours. The food is great and the beer is cold and cheap. I do suggest getting there early since it can get pretty crowded. Have to love triva night!
- Pros: Cheap food, Cheap Beer
- Cons: service can be slow
Mom-and-pop soda shop that pours Pabst.

In Short
Somehow through Virginia Highland's transition from the dangerous doormat to Buckhead's well-dressed younger brother, Moe's and Joe's has miraculously stayed the same. Wall-to-wall vintage Pabst paraphernalia spouts beer-drinking maxims. Cracked vinyl booths, faded wallpaper and nicotine-stained Braves pennants make it feel as though you're stepping into a time warp, especially considering the well-groomed surroundings. It's a place where dogs and burgers still get delivered in red plastic baskets for minimal coin, and cheap beer is pretty much the only option. A few old faces cling to their trusty neighborhood haunt, but Va-Hi's youthful office-hounds and Emory students carry the torch. The place has got a following every night of the week, but on Tuesday or Thursday, the crowd swells for beer specials. You'll want to get there early to score a table.
OK

Good place to hang out and chill but beware it swarms with Emory students on Tues and Thurs. More fun in the summer when the beer is just as cheap and the crowds are gone.
- Pros: Cheap Beer, Motive, Location
- Cons: Crowded, Small, College
Been great for years!

Great place to go and hang out with friends. A favorite place when I was in college 30+ years ago and we still go from time to time. Horace is what makes it great - nice, but firm. Keeps things under control. I have great memories of this place. Glad to hear Horace is still there and things are still the same!

Really fun place. My husband and I have been going there for almost 20 years. We drive one hour now from our new home to go.
Where everyone knows your name...

What can you say, great bar food, great people, cheap suds. Any place that keeps a true gentleman like Horace on board is OK by me. I have met folks who were there when Kennnedy was shot, the place eeeks history. It is a great place to hang out!! 4 dollar pitchers ain't bad either....
I hope I last as long as it does.
- Pros: cheap suds
- Cons: cigarette smoke
What a dump
by tclp
Moe's & Joe's has crappy service, OK food, and a building that should be condemned. The only thing that is redeemable is their patrons, who are your local down to earth highland people. I don't believe that the bartenders really care that there are people there trying to give their hell hole business. There is always something wrong with a bar that doesn't sell anything but beer and doesn't take credit cards. I just don't get it.
- Pros: cheap
- Cons: bad service, dirty
