A highly amped basement venue offers recognizable talents within arms length.

The Scene
Low ceilings and high decibels greet you in the Cotton Club, an intimate venue located in the former Baptist church basement of Atlanta's renowned Tabernacle concert hall. Entering balcony level, patrons wander through casually clumped wooden chairs before descending towards the stage. Downstairs, the room runs long and narrow, with the stage flanking two-thirds of it. Bars are to both sides, and a few tall tables loom between steel supports towards the center.

The Draw
For those who like their rock loud and up close, the Cotton Club delivers, no fluff. Each year a fresh crop of hot up-and-comers is featured, as well as more established local and international favorites. The cave-like venue is the place to show your allegiance to your favorite artists, as the intimacy of the uncluttered room allows for amp-hugging devotion towards the acts that grace the low, accessible stage.

it's a dive with pretty good sound

by scbadiva at Citysearch

Sound is pretty good although it can't do much for bands that suck no matter what environment they play in. The parking is a major pain. Although the club seems small (b/c of the lower ceiling), it packs in quite a good size crowd while still seeming intimate. If you're a 6ft tall chick, I wouldn't wear 6inch heels, you'd probably hit your head on the ceiling. (ha)

  • Pros: sound, acoustics
  • Cons: parking, watered down drinks

Such an intimate experience

by my_stupid_mouth at Citysearch

The Cotton Club has been by fay my favorite venue to hear live music at. The size of the club is perfect; you're able a perfect view whether you choose to be on the floor, the stairs of upstairs. Sound is no problem either; you can hear all perfectly and clearly. It's nice to see nationally known artists in such a close, intimate venue.
