Service and Atmosphere great.

by BillMax

Visited this restaurant many years ago (1986) and completely loved it. Happy to have gone back recently, atmosphere was very fun, great staff and overall a good time with my customers. Only critique from my dinner guests were related to luke warm plates and food. Appears as if items sitting, waiting on main entree that allowed some side items to be cold and hard to touch. My food was on the edge of being just perfect. I will go back for sure given the chance. Good wine selection.

  • Pros: Atmosphere, Service, Wine List
  • Cons: food was not hot enough

After 18 years, a complete dissapointment

by drewmandrews

After 18 years or so of eating here I've witnessed the service decline, quality decline and the prices increase to the point that I cannot and would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The drinks are overpriced, the desserts are only mediocre and the food is a downright dissapointment. Service is horribly inattentive and slow. Management believes a sweet smile and a warn handshake will make problems go away, they won't. It is sad to see such a "once fine" restaurant continue to believe their reputation will pull them through, while declining in all aspects of what made them great in the first place.

  • Pros: Convenient
  • Cons: Food is mediocre. Service is slow. Way overpriced.

Completely empty on a Friday night

by daku101

I've been trying to find a nice jazz place in Atlanta and this one is not it. It was almost completely empty at around 10pm while most of hte people that were in it were from the band. The redeeming factors are the good quality music and the quality of the food. I plan to go back just for dinner instead of drinks. Forgot to mention the average age of the crowd was about 40 so this is not a singles place either.

  • Pros: Jazz
  • Cons: empty

Great Entrees, Service, Desserts, Drinks- As Alantans know, Avoid all Downtown Restaurants during conventions

by battlecity

Awesome, awesome, awesome. The lamb chops and the escargot are to die for. Food is very rich, so you may want to plan accordingly. Great place to go for just deserts also.

As all Alantans should know, avoid downtown dining during conventions, however I dined at Daileys during Mart last year service was still above average but a bit slow.

  • Pros: Love it, Love It, the restaurant sticks with only a few dishes that they do very well
  • Cons: Hard to find parking if your not familiar with downtown,

Excellent Downtown Dining Table, Still! Fabu Dessert Altar!

by jaymaygm

Gosh, this was our first visit back to Dailey's in over twenty years. We remember when the Peasant Boys--Bob Amick(One Midtown Kitchen, Two Urban Licks), Sterve Nygren(Serenbe Farm), and the late Richard(Can't use his nick name) Dailey, opened this establishment. They were always ahead of the curve, and converted this old parking garage, into a Downtown destination restaurant. It's now under different ownership, but our return visit, was most refreshing. Of course we started in the still cool, jazz bar downstairs, and then up we went. The large dining hall is still basically the same. We both started with the legendary French Onion Soup, that helped to make them famous, and it was just as good as ever. I could not resist that crispy Roasted Duck, with Cognac Sauce. It was my favorite then, as it is now. My partner ordered the Swordfish w/Mustard Sauce. Outstanding! But best of all, they still have, what I call, the Dessert Altar. Walk-up two steps, and you can see the full array of deserts. This is suppose to be the New Year, and my diet. Oh well, maybe next month. It's nice to see people coming back, and moving into the Downtown area. To Dailey's, another twenty-five years.

  • Pros: Still Excellent Downtown Dining! Dessert Altar!
  • Cons: Parking Can Be Tight!

appealing

by keeone81

relative to the sheraton hotel where i stayed for the weekend, it was in a good location downtown; within walking distance. dailey's downstairs had great service, fabulous martinis, and jazz at its prime. i went there every night of my stay in atlanta. i will definitely return to this undiscovered hidden hotspot bar whenever i'm in town.

check it out!!

  • Pros: apple martini
  • Cons: can't think of any

Beware, service and food sub par

by rich76

I arrived at Dailey's off of a recomendation. The wait wasn't bad and the bar downstairs had a nice jazzy feel. I enjoyed the music with my party while we waited for a table. We where escorted up stairs and this is where the disappointment began. The ambiance is ok at best. No one attended to out table until about ten min. of waiting. When the waiter came he rushed us through our dinner selection (which wasnt terrible because I was hungrey). The ceasar salad I recieved was marinated in dressing and took about 20 mins to arrive. when it did come out the waitor split dressing on my guest ear, shirt sleeve, and inside his shirt pocket. He brought a terry cloth (nothing else was said to my guest about drycleaning the shirt or resolving the experience) . The filet arrived about 20min after the salad and it was fatty and tough (I had it cooked mid rare and it came out med). I was very suprised about the poor quality. The sides went along with the quality of the steak, mash potatoes (it was potatoes that were mashed with nothing added for flavor). The greens tasted as if they were frozen and placed in a steamer and onto my plate, not very good. We talk to a manager and told him our unfortunate luck with his restraunt from the salad dressing incident to the filets, he said he would "try" to help us out. He soon left and did not hear anything else from him.

Let me break away with a good comment. The deserts were very good, I enjoyed them immensely, though we waited another 20 min for the desert. After boxing up the deserts we waited 37min for our check. During this time we talk to a lady manager and told her of our experience of the night. She responded sympathetic to the stained shirt and told us it would come out it happens all the time and that she is sorry about the experience. No compensation was given and I walk away $150 dollars lighter with a bad taste in my mouth.

Simple, Satisfying, to die for deserts

by dtudoran

When I went to college in Atlanta, we used to go to Daily's A LOT. We always got soup,

salad or appetizer and always desert. It was fabulous. I don't have any bad memory of the food, service or ambiance. I returned several years later with my husband and we both enjoyed it. We just returned tonight and have to say, it was still solid. I got the strip steak which was good (wish I'd gotten the mashed potatoes instead of the steak fries, though). The service was a bit slow, although our server was very attentive otherwise. The only complaint is we had to wait in the smoke-filled bar downstairs for quite a while only to get upstairs and see lots of empty tables. I'd go again and go the appetizer, salad, soup, desert route.

  • Pros: food, deserts
  • Cons: wait, slow

Just order appetizers and have dessert!

by rockyhilltop

Other (negative) reviewers may have recieved poor or slow service when a large convention is in town. When the downtown hotels are full, it doesn't matter where you eat, you'll be waiting for a table and you'll get slow service. I find Dailey's is a cut above most other downtown restaurants and ther service (outside of huge convention weeks) is good. I like to go for appetizers and dessert and skip the main course. Most of the appetizers are filling enough to be a main course. This is not a 5 star resaurant but I've been eating here for 15 years when I'm in Atlanta and I'll continue to patronize this establishment every time I'm in town.

  • Pros: appetizers, desserts
  • Cons: downtown crowds

This converted warehouse serves palatable platters to chatty congregations.

The Scene
A pair of carousel-style horses anchors the sight lines down the center of this dark dining room, more cavernous than cozy. After-work types cluster noisily around tables after coming up the massive staircase from the downstairs bar. Service is brisk, attractive and attentive.

The Food
Selections like crab cakes with remoulade and French onion soup are standard comfort-food fare. The California strudel is a very rich, very 1970s concoction of phyllo dough filled with a tasty medley of spinach, ham and artichoke hearts. Where entrees are concerned, simpler is better: Oven-roasted, pepper-crusted swordfish with mustard sauce arrives fresh; the filet of beef, anointed with a delicious demi-glace sauce, spinach and mashed potatoes, is perfectly satisfying. The wine list offers intriguing choices. Save room for a trip to the dessert table, where chocolate cravings are decadently satiated.
