Falafel Cafe Falls Short
by roberts2424
November 17, 2007
The Falafel Cafe was recommended by two other individuals. There were quite a number of people patronizing this place which generally is a good sign. The hummus was excellent having a "just made" taste. Spices and consistency were very good. The Falafel Platter was priced right. But, the falafels were very dry as if they were made hours earlier and had a feeling of being kept under a heating lamp. Apparently, no one bothered to tell the cooks to make something fresher. In fact, it's difficult to remember any falafels this dry found anywhere in any other restaurants ever visited. They were also out of some items by 8:30 p.m. which means everything is prepared fresh or they simply didn't prepare for the evening. Substitutions had to be made. Service was prompt but low on personality. The restaurant appeared to be a little on the dirty side. Food was scattered on the carpet indicating "young eaters." A Windex bottle and dirty rag remained on the table next to ours during dinner. Restroom was clean enough. If it weren't for the quality of the hummus this restaurant would be rated lower. It's doubtful that there will be a return visit.
- Pros: Hummus
- Cons: Falafels tasted dry and old. Ambience.

Rough-around-the-edges restaurant makes up for appearance with tasty Persian cuisine, plus some Middle Eastern stand-bys.
Great Gyro by Don M. at InsiderPages

The service is slow. When its busy, try ordering at the counter after you have taken a seat. It will cut your wait in half.
The food is good, even though the namesake falafels are not so hot. The gyro meat is great. They bring it in from Chicago. A gyro platter is a bargain and delicious.
Another favorite of ours is their lentil soup. Starts with a J but can't think of its name right now.
Do not get fooled by reviews

I visited this restaurant just by reading the previous review and it was big misery day for me.
This is the example how you get fooled by the reviews.
I often visit Falafel house, Food is OK and service is not that bad. When i came across the above review i decided to visit the
place in mid-town and give a try.
BE aware, first of all it is not dining restaurant, just pick up joint for food, Food is not as good as falafel house.
Place was dirty and clumsy, It is only ok for Office people to pick up something there as fast food option.
If you are thinking of dining there, it is great great mistake.
- Pros: Ok Food, Not that BAD, It is not crowded and you usually get place to sit easily
- Cons: Expensive food for quality and quantity,
WORTH THE WAIT

I took a groupf of10 my coworkers to this place and most had never had persian food before. we all loved the food, we had chicken kabob, lamb kabob and koobide kabob. the hummus is the best i've ever had. the wait was a little long but with a big group of people it's understandable.
i highly recomend this place.
- Pros: not so expensive, clean bathrooms, outdoor seating.
- Cons: none
Terrible service, poor food.

I went there with my lady and we ordered food to go: hummus, gyro wrap, and falafel wrap. For $17 we got to wait 30 mins for a to go order when the owner, cook and one server were weeded with 3 tables. When we got home our food was cold, slathered from top to bottom in their yogurt sauce (small amounts good, slathered bad). The falafel was literally inedible. Neither of us touched it. The hummus was bland...very bland. The only saving grace for this encounter was the mediocre gyro we were served. Overall, I'd say this place is just terrible. Save you cash and go south to Monroe Dr and eat at the Mediterranean grill. Falafel Cafe would compel me to drive 25 minutes into downtown their food is so bad...and the service was no great value add either.
- Pros: none
- Cons: service is horrible, food is just boring or bland.
Middle Eastern Food by Hina B. at InsiderPages

I will have to disagree with the other reviewer...this isn't the best middle eastern food, there are other good options like cedars, but it is good food for what you pay. Just be prepared for a long wait. It's also in the back of the shopping center, hidded behind the waffle house.
Falafel without the flavor
by cornpopgirl

Went here for lunch while in the area on business. The falafel had no flavor and was cold when freshly served. My lamb kabob wrap was swimming in sauce. the hummus had a texture which I've never experienced before. Since I have a few friends that are native to Mediterranean, and have had the pleasure of dining on their homemade feasts... this was far from what I know. I'd rather find a Falafel King back home!
- Pros: seat yourself, quick ordering
- Cons: no taste, atmosphere, no real outdoor dinin
The best Lebanese and Mediterranean food at unbelievable prices by Khalil J. at InsiderPages

I have never paid this little to eat food this good.
From the olive oil they make themselves to the falafels they grind fresh, Falafel Cafe also has a grocery next door. The only complaint I have is regarding their service, which is severely understaffed.
For a gyro and fries, you typically have to wait about 10 minutes. The plus side is that fries aren't kept underneath heat lamps, but are rather cut and fried with each order. I suppose efficiency shouldn't be held at a higher standard than taste or quality, both of which are found in huge numbers at Falafel Cafe.
Other than the wait, this low-key cafe and grocery is the best restaraunt in the area (including the TGIFriday's across the street).
PROS: Best Mediterranean ever, with fresh groceries and aromatic olives to match
CONS: Only two people work the kitchen at a time, so be prepared to wait
Very good food, not to expensive

From the outside, this place looks a little odd (backside of a strip mall) but the food is very good....I HIGHLY recommend the gyro plate. This is definetly one of my favorites, and probably one of my proudest restaurant finds. Try it, you won't be disappointed!
- Pros: Very good food, good prices
