The best of the best of the best
by nahumnicholas
I waited 4 years before getting a real haircut (more than a trim) because of past experiences. Although Forbici's was highly recommended, I was still fearful of cutting off my long hair. Marty and her daughters were so wonderful that now I look forward to my next haircut. Marty spent an hour perfecting my haircut so that not a strand was left uneven. Her daughters were charming hostesses, the conversation was lively and the atmosphere felt as though I was in the living room of a favorite aunt. I got all that and decades of Marty's expertise for less money than I paid at Van Michael's New Talent (apprentice) salon. And the experience was infinitely more enjoyable.
- Pros: Great haircut, happy experience
- Cons: None
Forbici Fabuloso!
by sajc
Marty's expertise, artistry, and genuine friendliness inspire my loyalty to her salon.
I've been a Forbici customer for about 23 years (before Mattie Rose was born!)
and even though I now live way across town in the western suburbs,
I still drive in from Marietta every 4-6 weeks to have Marty work her magic.
Best Scissor Layer-Cut in Atlanta
by berniej1
Marty not only owns Forbici, she gives it a warm homey feel. I like a precise haircut that does not rely on thinning scissors to make up for a lack of attention to detail. Absoultely unpretentious, Marty Kennedy's friendly manner belies the fact that she gives the best scissor layer cut I've had in 20 years... I give Forbici Five stars and two thumbs up! (My daughter out and out will not go anyplace other than "Marty's" to get her hair done.)
- Pros: Great haircut, great intergenerational conversation, great service
- Cons: None!
Marty listens to you
by a_native
Marty really listens when you tell her what you want and usually achieves it. She is great with all types of people and all styles of haircut. I took my mother there when she came to town, and Marty was able to give her a razor cut, which not many people do any more. I am so glad I found her--I don't go home from an appointment and cry anymore.
Talent Without Pretension
by mommabrad
Marty is exactly what I was searching for - an "intuitive" stylist; one who can look at your face and hair type and give you the most flattering cut, while always making sure that it is what you really want. I have never gone to the same salon as long as I have been going to Forbici's (7 years), but now that I've found Marty - what a relief! My salon-hopping days are over. And all this with the bonus of being able to relax in non-pretentious, comfortable surroundings. At Forbici's, you won't find the chrome and glitter of a big name salon - just the talent.
- Pros: Great cuts and cozy too
- Cons: Absolutely none
refreshing salon experience
by a_stram
What a breath of fresh air Forbici is! In the middle of all the high-priced, high-attitude salons in the snootiest parts of the city of Atlanta, there is Forbici, like a cool breeze in the midst of a heat wave. From the time you walk in, you realize that this family-owned hair salon is different from the rest. I immediately felt welcome as soon as I walked in - somehow they managed to put me right at ease, whereas most of the time in salons I feel like everyone is sizing me up. Mattie Kennedy cut my hair - she apprenticed under her mom (the owner) for four years before taking her own clients. The thing that I appreciated about Mattie is that she actually listened to me (!!!), didn't do what I didn't want her to do, and politely asked before doing anything that she thought I might object to. She gave me several styling tips all throughout the appointment - you can tell she has plenty of experience in the salon industry, even though she considers herself a "junior" stylist. Believe me, I've experienced junior stylists who charge more, have more attitude, and have less knowledge about hair than she does. Although she only makes evening appointments, she seems dedicated to making her clients happy. My first experience at Forbici can be summed up by saying it was a warm, homey experience with people who seem to really be invested in their business and in you.
- Pros: really nice people, family-owned hair salon without the attitude
- Cons: parking is tight
Forbici for Hair

Marty is a great hairdresser...an artist! She spends time making sure you're happy with your hair before you walk out the door. I have been to other "top" salons in Buckhead and VA Highland and have found Marty to be the best. The atmosphere is very laid-back and friendly. They (she and her daughters who work there) always make you feel welcome and let you know that they appreciate your business. I have been a client of hers for four years.
- Pros: Great stylist; very friendly service
- Cons: Can be difficult to reach, but they do call you back!

Superb personal attention
by annjo
My personal experience at Forbici for Hair has been more than excellent. Marty Kennedy is a gifted and careful stylist who treats hair not only for good looks but also for maximum health benefits. It shows and I am grateful to have my hair back with full body and great managability after some years of poor treatments at other salons. The shop is very casual and relaxed and the personal attention is exceptional. The conversation is good too.
- Pros: Careful attention to condition of hair and it's appearence
- Cons: May occasionally be hard to reach
Best Haircut (men's)
by hankkimmel
I'm a 46-year-old man, and I've been going to Forbici for four years. I grew tired of the quick in-and-out razor cut kind of places, and I don't want to spend too much time or money on a haircut. That's why Forbici is great. I get a specific cut, the service is amazingly friendly, and the price is right. It's right in downtown Decatur with plenty of free parking. Highly recommended.
- Pros: Friendly service, hair stylists who care, free parking
- Cons: Sometimes hard to get an appointment.
