Friendly and Fun

I've been going to Los Loros for as long as I can remember, food is not fancy but it's good. Service is very friendly, almost all the waiters know us and the owner, Tony, is very nice. The margaritas are strong and plentiful (get the pitcher), the cheese dip is good, and the menu has something for everyone!
BEST FOOD EVER!

Los Loros is my favorite resteraunt! I come to Los Loros almost every week. All of the food is sooooo fresh. Ilove the salsa, gucamole and cheese dip. The service is so great, especially the hostesses.
Great food, fast service, very freindly.

Beware

I used to think this place was great for drinks until I saw a staff person dump a half finished maragrita back into the machine. I will never eat there again after seeing that.
- Pros: none
No flash but good Tex-Mex and friendly service

I have been going for years and it is a Decatur secret. The chips are usually fresh and the guacomole is excellent. Great fajitias and no frills chicken enchiladas. Lunch service is excellent but dinner can be slower. Very reasonably priced.
- Pros: Price is unbeatable and the food is fresh.
- Cons: Wait staff sometimes gets confused with orders.
Family owned cantina serves inexpensive, Americanized Mexican food in a Decatur strip mall.

The Scene
Popular with gym-clothed Emory students and Decatur families alike, this plain, unpretentious restaurant offers all the usual "Mexican restaurant" visual cues anticipated by the red-and-green logo. Service is fast and fairly friendly.
The Food
Los Loros works just fine as the reliable local Mexican restaurant, with standards like cheese dip and enchiladas. Its menu is substantial, but many of the more traditional dishes tend to be disappointingly bland. Chips, salsa and guacamole are good, although the salsa had more heat than flavor, and the guacamole was under seasoned. Garlic shrimp cooked with pico de gallo and poblano peppers offered a generous portion but was otherwise unmemorable. Carnitos estilo michoacan--grilled ground pork with coriander and guacamole--fared better, but owing to a lack of toppings, the dish looked and tasted like a naked taco.
Huh?

How is this place rated in the same category as places like Taqueria Del Sol. The chips were crispy though not that fresh and the salsa was okay but the entree's are unimpressive and one of my dishes has an off flavor to it as if there was leftover rinsewater in the pan it was cooked in. There are too many other good places to waste my money here. Pay a couple bucks more and go to Mexico City gourmet across the street.
dazed & confused

good thing the margaritas were heavy on the alcohol...it helped to make the understaffed and slow service cantina more bearable. It took 15 minutes to get an extra chair at our table and another 5 minutes for 2 stained menus for 5 people to share. At our request we finally received some salsa but no chips, but the magaritas did arrive at the same time to dull the hunger pains. Did I mention that there was only 12 people in the whole restuarant? The chips were stale upon arrival and the food was edible but bland on all dishes from fajitas to cheese enchiladas...my recommendation go on a full stomach just for the drinks.
- Pros: Inexpensive, high alcohol content
- Cons: bland, slow service
