Star provisions is like going into the ultimate convenience store. The gourmet goodies are top notch. It is a great place to pick up a picnic or special home dinner.
Five Stars for Porchetta!
by thundersroar at Citysearch
I wish I could give six stars, but the Porchetta's worth living until the age of 134 for. Make sure you ask your server Chef Biderman made the Porchetta first, then go for his NOLA-styled specialties!
- Pros: The varietal use of familiar, but unorthodox combinations of great ingredients; the Porchetta.
- Cons: the snobbiness of their "marketeers"
Best New Orlean's Style Sandwiche's In ATL! Excellent Takeaway Goodies Also!
by jaymaygm at Citysearch
We were bored about where to go for lunch today, and thought we would just run over to Howell Mill Rd. and get a few taco's at Taq del Sol, but went into Star Provisions to look around, and wait for the lines to go down. And I'm glad we did. This take-a-way gourmet shop makes some of the best sandwiches outside the Big Easy. The Muffuletta is only second to Central Grocery in N.O. The olive tepanade had the right amount of tang, with the melted cheese. A close second is the Shrimp Po'Boy, with homemde tartare sauce. The french bread was crusty and warm. And of course we had to get an assortment of prepared salads to take home, with the Artichoke being our favorite. This is not New Orleans, but it is a heck of alot closer!
- Pros: Great New Orleans Sandwiches!
- Cons: A Little Pricy!
West Midtown food and gift shop woos rich gourmands.

The Scene
Owned by the folks behind Bacchanalia and Floataway Cafe, Star sells the gourmet grocery experience in a way that sets a new standard for sexiness. Still, unless you've got money to burn, you'll see it as little more than a place to stretch your legs after lunch at neighboring Taqueria Del Sol.
The Goods
There's a distant chance you'll spot a cool hostess gift or the ideal wedding present for your very, very best friend. But in general, you'll find imported sushi sets, A-grade foie gras and $100 bottles of vinegar. There's that pineapple tarte Tatin you fell in love with at Floataway. Berry-red ahi tuna cries out for a hot charcoal fire. The cheese shop with more than 200 kinds is an absolute dream. Over on Aisle 6, an impromptu wine tasting might break out. Drop by on Saturday for the full effect.
